DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

The drive around billboard is for d23.

They funded initial one day and guess another got added. $2500 a day iirc. Initially it was a simple awareness and qr code and website. Haven't seen the latest iteration.

Awareness is their thrust for all this. Not sure how effective it'll be.
Now it will have sayings such as "I am sorry I can't come with you to Disney, I might faint and die because I denied DAS. Love grandma."
Really weird cringeworthy sayings. At least that was the last I heard. They have to use the extreme tales was most of them by their won admissions haven't even bothered to call yet.

The awareness was much better idea. I don't know how you judge effectiveness? I mean D23 is inside and this truck will have to circle many times and be in traffic.. Most are not going to looking at it at lest not more than once.... It's like the crazy preacher guy across from Disneyland.. White noise after while.

I know some (?most) of the Disney/Disabilities Facebook pages I follow banned people who were 'behaving badly' toward other posters or advocating harassment toward CMs. I think a lot of the banned people ended up joining that page.

The moderators of some Facebook pages posted notices that they are no longer allowing any posts about DAS because they had become too contentious. Others were reviewing posts before approval.
Even if some of the fanatics came here, between us, @lanejudy and I read each post on this board. Sometimes one of us is more able to be caught up than the other, but we both eventually read all. Plus webmasters are following too (and posters who would not be afraid to call out and report)

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. (Unknown source, although it has been attributed to multiple people including Einstein)

I've noticed that too. A lot have not called before they start posting rants. I can't help but think that when they do call, the call won't go well based on the attitude in their posts.

Reasonable people have called back and explained they were too nervous and/or they tried the accommodations and call back with details of what happened. I don't think anyone who is reasonable and only calling a time or two have anything to worry about.

The 120 days may be only for the people calling back repeatedly or may also include those who were so abusive to CMs on the first call that they are not being allowed to call back until they pass a 120 day 'cooling off' period.
The main fb page of 100k folk shut down when the revamp occurred. Then pivoted to family friendly subjects and orientation when they relaunched a month later and specifically axed all DAS discussion

It would be the same level if disboards banned all DAS discussion from then subforum. Suddenly many lost their fb home and the most disaffected found their way to DAS defenders.

I don't understand the logic... Did they think Disney was going to let them harass the CM's and clog up the phone lines?
Yes, they did. After all Disney let this nonsense go on over 2 months.

I only hope people who need to call twice or call again while in the parks don’t get swept up in the some overreaction by Disney to this horrendous behavior.

I left that group when they banned das discussion entirely. I have managed to find another fb group that allows das questions and hasn't been toxic (yet anyway). Hopefully it stays that way

Yep.
I was on the 100k page for quite a while. I had found it to have a lot of information about exactly what to say to get DAS and a lot of misinformation. For example, a lot of people just asking about DAS were told ' just tell your diagnosis they have to give it to you' and/or assuring people that 'you qualify for DAS'. I posted links to the Disney websites and said people needed to be prepared to discuss needs and got told I was wrong 😑

There were also a lot of hints on how to get the on/in the most attractions. It was not uncommon to read reports that a family did 27 attractions in a day or did everything at MK twice.

It got pretty weird after the April 9 DAS Changes announcement. Multiple people were posting things like 'if they don't give me DAS, I'm going to cause a biohazard spill in line or on the ride. See how they like that.' People also mentioned purposely causing problems in line if they didn't get DAS.
The owners of the Facebook page posted they were closing for a week to come up with a new plan, but were out for at least a month. They tried allowing DAS discussions for a few days, but totally banned all DAS discussion because it was no better after being closed

DAS Defenders say things like this daily, with plenty of encouragement from the mods. Thank you for all that you so to keep these pages safe and sane, both of you.

With all the talks about 120 day bans, I’d like to reassure people that I called a second time (after original denial) as recently as 3 days ago to explain why I had planned to just try to get by with G+ post-denial (in early July) but then there were dramatic changes to paid LLs (which I bought every day anyway!) that are going to make it really hard on my family and me (the ex-DASholder) personally and asked for some grace. I wasn’t trying to get DAS, but hoping they could help with something to smooth our visit after having two rugs pulled (first DAS, then late-in-day stacking with G+)… anyway, they didn’t help me at all but they were polite and did not threaten me to stop calling or suggest a ban, etc. I don’t recommend anybody try calling a second or third time without a reason, but based on my experience, I’m guessing that the people being told there’s a 120 day wait are REALLY over the line.

It is early Monday morning where I live adjacent to The House of Mouse in Florida. Hurricane Debby is a Cat 1 now. The outer bands are passing through the area. Heavy rain, winds, lots of lightening. My phone is lighting up with a flash flood warning, tornado warning — 30 miles away so ok here — and various and numerous watch situations. However, having lived through some big and serious ‘canes, this is a baby ‘cane. We took in all the loose outdoor gear yesterday and our house is fine. So, we are riding it out. But, I strongly suspect “rope drop” will be cancelled this morning. This has been going on for a couple of hours now and has a few more hours left to go. One of the big differences between hurricanes and other storms is that hurricanes move so slowly that they hang around and grind away. Although, I have lived through a blizzard that raged for 3 days straight and it took days after that to dig out. So, to all at Disney World right now, stay in and stay safe. To those traveling, be patient, safety first. The rainbow at the end of a hurricane is the weather is beautiful and cooler for a while.

Edited to add: Just to show how big his storm is, it just made landfall at Steinhatchee, FL in the “big bend” coastal area. We are still getting constant heavy rains, flash flood warnings, high winds and tornado warnings at the WDW area — 229 miles to the southeast. Will continue in this area for several hours yet. Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are in for a rough time.

You know you are in Florida when ….

During a Cat 1 hurricane you get a notice that Sanitation is not cancelling pick-up service this morning, but please put your address on your rolling garbage tote in case it goes surfing down the street. (All garbage totes have lid locks here). 😂

Is this for anyone who gets denied, or just those who have been calling back repeatedly?

(I'm thinking of the reports we've had here of those who were denied initially, tried the non-DAS accommodations in the park and found they really did not work for them, called back and explained in detail why they didn't work with examples and then were approved for DAS. If this 120 applied to everyone, then that wouldn't be possible anymore since all calls are 30 days before the trip.
FWIW I called back after I was denied because I had some additional questions and the CM was super cool and answered all the questions. Granted I wasn't calling to try and game the system and get approval or be a general nuisance so I'm sure that is treated differently but I've seen no evidence that Disney has any issue with people honestly working through the changes.

Follow up on MPLL overlapping times that was being discussed a couple days ago- we had a report of modifying times at 7am day of allows for extreme overlap (like almost the same times), before then you’re limited to like 10 mins. Changing times does NOT require you to be in the park.

@HyperspaceMountainPilot pretty much what you were reading? I know you’re following it too over there and the system rules are so dang confusing a double check is always warranted 🙄

So…after catching up on posts here today, I caved and just joined the DAS defenders group on fb out of curiosity….I had to fill out a questionnaire for approval to the group….if I get denied, should I try again (and again and again??) :D
That site is horrible (but I can't help myself from reading it). The worst was when they wanted to contact Make a Wish to drop Disney. Seriously? Disney gives so much to MAW and it's such a wonderful thing yet they would have that taken away if they don't get their own way. The one woman who claimed to have 6 strokes (forget the term) because she had to wait in line. Yes she manages to go to Starbucks and then her friend's house right after that? People pointed out there is no way to tell if she had the actual medical incident she claimed to have without some kind of scan. I honestly think these are the people Disney has had enough of and I do believe they have data on them going into the calls.

Yikes! That’s absolutely horrible :/ What I don’t get is how much people are overreacting to the extreme….I get people are anxious regarding the changes (I am and I won’t even know if I still qualify until November :/), but this kind of over the top reaction helps absolutely no one.

That group and the TikTok folks are way over the top. I think they all just earned law degrees from a cracker jack box.

Yeah, I have multiple people saying how they have ten or 12 TIA any time the stand in line... what??? And the ones you threaten bio hard issues or that they will have seizures immediately if they have to stay in line for too long??? What happens if the ride breaks down? What happens in crowds and parades? These extremes are so awful the borderline on almost funny and I doubt that the reactions they want.

I went over there to read. Definitely not going to try to engage in those discussions. Hopeless.

Wow! Some of them have such a gross lack of understanding of social intelligence that even that in and of itself might be a disability. Very poor skills in reading comprehension with respect to reading Disney’s own accessibility website. Even less skill or ability to listen to others who know something and are trying to explain and help. “Group think” abounds as long as Disney is a bad guy and they are a victim. It has to be difficult to live life that way.

Edited to add: Is there such a disability like we are observing over there? Also edited to say NOT going to try to engage.

I think so too. Someone at one point posted thet “Disney can’t tell them they aren’t disabled” and I tried to explain that Disney isn’t saying people aren’t disabled, just that there are different accommodations for different needs. The person just wouldn’t hear it. Kept saying DAS denial meant Disney was trying to deem someone not disabled 🤦🏻‍♀️

Careful. I just read because engaging is like hitting your head against brick wall.

They are getting worse and worse. Demanding money from others now for their billboard, so that they can "get in the face of the actors and executives" Totally wrong way to approach this....but to each their own. Again, because it can't park and needs to drive, it will be circling over and over in a crowded and blocked off area. Most except those who are walking from Disney will not see it because the whole con is inside, and even then I doubt they are going to be paying too much attention.

I even saw someone try to post an acceptance and she was attacked and told the only reason her kid got it was luck and to not think they were special. That is some grade A *******.
