DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

Poorly controlled or triggered person with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) can be quite normal unfortunately. They are also ones that take up a lot of airspace while working through their issue, so posts/encounters can take quite a bit of time.

It's hard, and if you've known a person suffering from GAD, it can be quite difficult to get through some issues.
I understand that - someone selected which videos to highlight, or at least it's written up that way. So someone went through and determined that the angry "I haven't applied yet" videos were the best arguments they had.
Now it will have sayings such as "I am sorry I can't come with you to Disney, I might faint and die because I denied DAS. Love grandma."
Really weird cringeworthy sayings. At least that was the last I heard. They have to use the extreme tales was most of them by their won admissions haven't even bothered to call yet.

The awareness was much better idea. I don't know how you judge effectiveness? I mean D23 is inside and this truck will have to circle many times and be in traffic.. Most are not going to looking at it at lest not more than once.... It's like the crazy preacher guy across from Disneyland.. White noise after while.
I don't think this is going to have the effect they are going for. I think this will only bring about mockery. That will cycle into "you're ablest" vs "no, this is stupid" and probably set back any hope of Disney taking any legit complaints seriously.

The being told they can't call back again reports have hit TikTok. I have had to block a couple people over there because of it. My response has pretty much been if they hadn't called back over and over again and harassed the Cast Members this wouldn't have happened.

I personally am not even going to try for DAS. I am like 99.99999% sure I would get turned down so it is not worth the stress. I figure other things out to hopefully help.

Yeah saying that is a nonstarter. Know your audience with that group.

HA!! You're one of the nicest, well spoken, compassionate posters on here. What did you do? hahahahaha
I tried to explain to someone that Disney wasn’t saying they didn’t have a disability, but that DAS was for specific needs now and other accommodations are for other needs. I also had a differing opinion on medical documentation as proof (thought it wasn’t a good idea and wouldn’t help the overuse of DAS). The person got offended, called me an ableist, and reported me.

Places like that make me so thankful for place like this. We can express our opinions, disagree and still come away with respect.. and if not the mods WILL get involved and not just take one side regardless.

In a civil conversation nothing said with respect and true intentions should her be off the table. That place really has nowhere to go.. and if they don't get whatever they are hoping for from the billboard....

Yes! I ended up finding this thread about the same time and it’s the best!!

The newest complaint, and remember you are an ableist if you disagree, is that refusing to give them RT because they enjoy seeing them suffer. That there is quota on how many they can RT's they can give. That many will pass out, suffer strokes and hurt themselves badly in line for being forced to merge with their groups.

Now reality at Disneyland there are like 10 places that will give you one, but yes you have to walk and omigosh plan so you not going back and forth and all over. There really is no need at CA, but occasionally a CM might. Not familiar with DW.

All against the ADA of course.

My eyes are hurting from the rolling.

Yeah, there are so many people out there that just can't get it through their heads that having a disability doesn't mean you should be granted a DAS. There is a woman on TikTok who is reading the stories that come into her and she's all about anyone with any disability should get a DAS. And her interpretation of the ADA is that "equal enjoyment" means that if a disabled person can only be in the parks for four hours, they need the DAS so that the can do twice as much in that four hours as a non-disabled person.

Honestly I think Disney should have changed the name from DAS to something else. That may have helped and maybe not have “disability” in the name at all. Then maybe people wouldn’t think it is for everyone with a disability.

Those stories are from the Facebook page. The crazier the better....

That there is quota on how many they can FT's they can give.
To be fair, I read *months* ago, from a cast member (I believe it was a CM) on another site that there were quotas on return times being given out at the attraction (as opposed to a CM directing someone to use AQR). It's been a long time and many hundreds of pages, so I can't go back and find it - but that's been part of my understanding since at least mid-May.

That’s the report from early on that also said there are reprimands or something bad if a CM gives out too many return times at a ride and they were told they would be audited for how many they gave out.

Now that the system has fully rolled out I believe the report was accurate. We see very few reports of return times offered by CMs at the attractions.

Wow! That puts wayyyy to much pressure and responsibility on the ride cm's to decide who they think deserves it.

There are something 10 places in Disneyland that say they will give RT, so having a quota there makes no sense. Barely any are handed out at CA, so auditing make no sense because they are really not warranted. "That" Facebook page has noticed and commented that RT are far are very very rare in CA. and only given with a mobility device in DL.

Maybe it is more of WDW than a DL thing? Did this report come out before DL rollout?

Not saying you not right..but that was months ago and CM's are notorious for being wrong and giving the wrong info. It makes no sense to have a quota one something like a a RT. It puts wayyyy to much pressure and responsibility on the ride cm's to decide who they think deserves it.

Quota's and not trying to give RT out are two different things. They have not hid the fact they want to steer more people to RTQ or single rider, so the RT handed out are for extreme situations.
I think it absolutely makes sense to put a quota on it; otherwise, the LLs will be just as clogged up as they were before the changes.

Yes, that was definitely being shared around here earlier. But even then it wasn't clear that it was a hard line so much as it's going to start being questioned if person A is always giving them out like candy and other shifts aren't.

Yes - audited is the word I was looking for. Not a quota that they have to fill, but that there's consequences for the CM if the Cm gives out too many. Thank you for wording it better!
