My dad had a stroke today. :( It is not severe as he can recognize us and tries to communicate. His left side is fine and is coordinated. His right side is affected. Mostly the arm and his speech is slurred. The right leg is fine but has a little weakness.

The doctors (and there were many today) say it is too soon for a prognosis, but they are encouraged by some of his tests. He is still not quite all "there" but he does try to communicate, but can't put the words together. The last doctor was the most encouraging by saying that he will improve, but it will be a long process.

Surgery is not warented, so that is good news I guess. It is a small bleed on the basal gangula. Which is "common" for those with high blood pressure, which he did.

He is in the best hospital in the world, the Cleveland Clinic. So he is getting great care.

Tomorrow is another day. And begins a long journey of rehab. He will be in the Nuro ICU for a few more days at least.

Any prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Debbie

Debbie, I will definitely keep your father and your entire family in my prayers.

The news does sound positive, which is good. "try" to take it one day at a time.

Let us know how your Dad is doing when you can please, as well as yourself. :grouphug:

Hi Debbie,

Sorry to hear about your dad and wish him a full recovery.

Rehab can be a long road but lots of amazing things can happen over over time.

Sending you all BIG Koala cuddles.:grouphug:

Thank you all. Today he is still a bit out of it. But he has not gotten worse. The doctors said that 5 is the worst and 1 is the best... he is a 2. So that is good, but he is still not out of the woods. His blood pressure keeps spiking, and then they get it under control and then it spikes again.

His right leg was stronger today and it is coordinated and moving independently. One finger on his right hand, did have a little movement today, so that has some promise. One thing that never dawned on me was that he can not eat. He failed a swallow test. Still can not make words but communicates in other ways.

He is going to be ok I think. His personality is there, I can see it, I know my dad. (He tends to be a bit stubborn :))

Long road ahead

Debbie

Thanks for the update Debbie and I am glad that you have been able to see a some improvement, all those little things are such positives.

Thinking of you all.
