So We are about a week out from our 180 day mark for our WDW trip and we told our DD (4) that since we were paying for the trip (and suprising her with a trip to BBB) that she had to save her own money to buy what she wanted in the parks. We told her she could do things around the house to earn money and she has birthday money she can save. However she was asking what kinds of things they have in the stores at WDW. Last time we took her she was just a baby so I think we just got her a baby tshirt and a doll or something, she is one of those kids though that has to know what she is working towards. What kinds of cool things have you seen at the gift shops lately for kids that we can tell her (or show her if you have a picture) about? Thanks everyone!!!

Tons of stuffed animals
tons of princess items
jewelry for little girls
mr potato build a box
clothes
nighttime light up toys

just about anything she can imagine.

Even with their own money, a preschooler might need at least a bit of guidance. We have the rule that we carry nothing in the parks, so everything must purchased at the end of our last day where ever the item is. We broke it once and let a 4 year old build a light saber one MORNING at HS. It was NOT a good idea!!!Just set guidelines so she does not become so focused on shopping that she misses some of the fun of the parks. Decide if she can spend it as she wants or you want to give her a bit each day. No right or wrong answers, but just thoughts on a bit of thinking ahead.

At her age a biggie will definitely be a princess costume with all the accessories. Mine were also very happy with the little play sets that they have like a miniature castle with small figurines and other Disney iconic sets. Jewelry with attachable accessories ie. add a bead type wristlets were a hit with my two girls.

If you want a good idea, look on disney's website, and click "park merchandise" It has quite a bit there. However, for that age, I'd like to show you what I've been buying for my niece every time we go to disney since she was that age.

I think they're absolutely adorable, and since she doesn't watch at ot of the older disney movies, I buy her a doll she hasn't seen the movie of before, and then get the movie and we watch it together while we play with the dolls. It's adorable.

I think we have set some guidelines as far as letting her buy one item per day at the end of the day as we leave whatever park we are in. That way she does not spend her money all at one time and if she finds something she really wants we can just buy it on the way out. She is REALLY into princess and dress up but I think the package we got for BBB comes with a costume. Glad to know they have little playsets as well, she loves her Frozen castle and things like that are good for her to play by herself with.

Bath toys, books, stickers, jewelry, baby toys, plush anything, hats, pins, pins, and more pins (they're small and around $10), art supplies, princess dolls of all shapes and sizes, picture frames, coffee mugs, the list is literally endless.

Now, to contrast PP opinions, my DD had her own money and would see something she wanted. But she fixates. There is no "going back later." For one, she will not enjoy herself because she's obsessing over going back to get that item. She never changes her mind. We learned very early in a 10 day trip to let her guide us. If she bought something at 9am, she was done for the day. If she ran out of money on day 6, too bad. Once the needed item was purchased we could move on with the rest of our day and have her actually enjoy herself.

Also, the merchandise they have at MK will be different than what you find at Epcot. If you see something, assume it won't be at another store. If you won't be back this way, you may not be able to get it later.

And, I understand that you should manage expectations about Frozen merchandise. Assume they are out of stock on all items. You might get lucky, but don't count on it. They have limited supplies and can't keep the shelves stocked.

One of my DDs favorite things we got was a Disney World themed Candyland game. She loves pointing out all the rides we went on and characters we saw. It is more unique and might last a little longer than a t shirt!

They sell 3-D placemats for the dinner table with all the characters on them. It's a lasting keepsake and the little ones we gave them to just love them. We got them at the gift shop next to Splash mountain but I'm sure they are everywhere. I think they were only about $4.00.pirate:

Check out the Disney Store online. They carry a little bit of park merchandise. Also, the Disney Parks Blog will sometimes show latest merchandise.

We are stying at a Disney Resort, do they still let you send your purchases back to your resort from the parks? That would work if she bought something in the morning and we can just send it back to our room instead of carrying it around all day.

I am loving all of the great ideas!!!! we were walking through the parking lot last night at my cousins graduation and she found some change in the parking lot and was all excited about putting it in her piggy bank for WDW lol. I told her there was all kinds of Princess stuff at WDW she can save up for like dolls, dress up, and play sets and she got really excited!!! :yay:

We did the same with DD when she was 5. She did her shopping at DTD. She chose a couple of the Polly Pocket type sets, one with Minnie Mouse & one with Tinkerbell. We did buy her a t-shirt, Ears, & a POTC playset on our own. She knew that when her money was gone, she was finished shopping. She took all the time she needed in a couple of shops & was good to go.

Last time she was 8 & grandmothers gave her some money that we put on a Disney gift card. Our second night there she bought a Duffy bear & an outfit for it in EPCOT & she was done & happy. We did buy a few other things for her on that trip.

She's saving up for our trip next year for her 10th birthday. It'll be neat to see what she decides to spend that money on.

Almost all of the merchandise is geared towards children (mostly girls) - you wont have a hard time finding souvenirs for children. ;)

There's tons of toys and clothes and such, stuff you'd expect.

FWIW, the big hits with our daughters (4 and 6) were the pick a pearl in Japan at Epcot and their first (Minnie mouse) watches.

Yes, you can send it to the resort at no charge. You will not get it until the next day, but DD has always been okay with that if it meant she could get what she wants. They will also send it to the front of the park to pick up when you leave- we have not done that, but I'm guessing if you go anytime near park

I would also say, if she picks any type of clothes, costume, shoes, etc that have a size, waiting until the end of the day is not the best idea. The sizes are often very picked over in the evening. More than once, I have seen something in my or DD's size I should have bought, but I decided to pick it up on the way out only to have the size we needed gone. They generally re-stock overnight (although for some crazy reasons the CMs in the store will not admit that- so if you find something at night you want but can't get in your size be sure to check the main store of the park where you are the next morning. Same if you find something you want at your resort at night not in your size- they can be slower to re-stock, but you often will find it the next morning). If you aren't going back to that park the next morning, you may have an issue because you won't necessarily find that particular item where you are going. You might as stores in other parks will have a lot of the same stuff, but they will not have all the same stuff. Most of the toys and things, you are okay waiting, but not always. We have also had it happen with a stuffed animal one year. They had 3 or 4 of them at AK in the front store, and I said we would get it on our way out if she still wanted it, thinking there was no way she would still want it or remember it at the end of the day, but of course she did, and then they were sold out for the day on our way out of the park. I had an unhappy kid, and I had to search at MK the next day for the thing because I had told her she could have it- which we ultimately found it.

Also, I don't agree with waiting until the last day of the trip if she finds something she really wants because as I said above, while there is a lot of overlap in the stores, there is also a lot of stuff that you might find in one place, but that you won't find wherever you happen to be on the last day. We have made the mistake of promising to pick up something later that day or later that week, only to find ourselves crossing the park at night to get back to a store on the other side of the park because it was the only place that carried it, or searching every store in the park we are in for it because we saw it in a different park and the main store in the park we are in doesn't have it etc.

One other thing, is that while WDW has a lot of park specific merchandise, there are also several things they carry that are regular Disney Store merchandise. We have 2 Disney stores in our area, so my rule for DD is that if we can get the exact same thing in the store at home, we aren't getting it at WDW. It would be different if we did not have a Disney Store in town, but I'm not trying to pack a bunch of stuff to bring back on a plane that I can get at home, or easily order online and have shipped to home. She has the option of saving some of her money and having me order it online or pick it up at home if she wants, but she never takes that option because she knows she can work her Grandma to buy it for her when she gets home.

There are an absolute ton of things for them to choose from. It is funny to watch what they decide they want and sometimes they surprise you. On DD's first trip when she was 2, she fell in love with and had to have a backscratcher with the characters on it of all things! She carried that thing (basically a plastic stick) around with her the whole week at WDW. It went everywhere she did.

My DD (8)'s absolute favorite souvenier she has ever gotten at WDW is the Duffy bear she got when she was 4 in 2010 when he had just arrived at the parks. Be careful if your DD heads that way because Duffy has lots of outfits to buy too. Duffy has slept with DD every night since she first got him. For at least the first couple of years he went everywhere she did in our house- he was present at all meals and she fed him every meal. I think the bear has more clothes than some people. He has gone on every WDW and DL trip with us in the last 4 years, and he goes to the parks with us every day and does everything with us. He usually has to dress for the occasion as well. He has a Safari outfit for AK, country outfits for EPCOT, he has a Lightening McQueen outfit for Carsland at DL/CA, etc. He picks up at least one new outfit on every trip. That bear is basically part of our family.
