Nancy - "Officially" Spruce Creek has now been incorporated into Port Orange. By September everyone is supposed to stop addressing their mail to Daytona Beach. Many residents are up in arms about it. It doesn't bother me. Spruce Creek has never felt like Daytona Beach to me anyway! They are making so many changes nowadays. It was amusing that recently Travolta wanted to come back (He does still own some property there) and they wouldn't let him. The complaints started because of his big Gulfstream jet that is so heavy it was damaging the runway. Then he wanted to make some unconventional property modifications I heard. Anyway, he now has a home elsewhere in FL (as well as homes in other states).

When were you last in Spruce Creek? Mansions are popping up like crazy the last couple of years! Yes - great place for parties! It's so weird when I'm driving in late at night after a full day at WDW, and I pass by this HUGE new "mansion" all lit up with a party going on. Because of all the "rules" in SC though, my sister has always referred to it as the Stepford Community. LOL. I think certain people can get away with breaking the rules though. :jester:

Shari,

I think it was Christmas of 98.

By the way, good to have you back. I didn't follow the whole other thread but I'm glad you're back here.

Nancy ( CI )

I received Nancy's (Windermere) cell # for the list. Thanks, Nancy!

Shari-- Good to see you posting again!

Nancy (Windermere)-- My brother also attended Embry Riddle. He took us on a tour of campus one day..... very interesting place. He and his family now live in Geneva, FL.

Mike-- Glad it was only a broken breaker on the heat pump.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

Colleen

Hi Folks,

Auntie's BD was great, each time I get to know new relatives;)

And we were able to learn about some details about Gramps' youth. We talked a long time with his brother-in-law (My Uncle) who is 93!!!! He's still so fit - unbelievable!! He sold his BMW 745i just recently and changed it for a BMW 330i, because he wants to drive slower at his ripe age. He still swims every day, walks his dogs, etc.

He told us how Gramps met Granny for the first time in 1937: My uncle was imprisoned by the GeStaPo (The secret police of the Nazis) because he was a member of a resistance group and Gramps also belonged to that group. When Gramps went to my uncle's parents to inform them about the imprisonment Granny opened the door: Love at the first sight. When Uncle managed to get out of jail some weeks later, Gramps and Uncle's sister were already engaged.

Eric,

Just wondering. Do you actually call gramps 'gramps'? or do you use another term?

I used to have an Oma ( Opa died in 1959 - before my time ). She died several years ago and I never got to meet her. But I was wondering if you actually used 'gramps' cause it seems very american to me.

Hi Nancy,

of course I call him "Opa", but I thought most of you wouldn't know that term. And Granny was called "Oma". Opa is my only grandparent left, but Anja still has her two Omas, both aged 92.

Opa's Mom -called "Uroma"- died at 99 in an accident!! and Opas brother is 94 and still of good health.

When I was a kid I used to have all my Grandparents plus two Uromas, which made Xmas and Birthday a special treat :p

Now it's bedtime, hope to find time for the list tomorrow evening - Anja does the late-shift, so after my daily dose of running and an hour of aerobics I shoul be able to the update.

Colleen,

I just sent you my cell-number.
Thanks for administrating the fon-list.

Eric

Eric, your family certainly seems to have long life genes.

My grandparents have all died. My last grandma died when my DS was not quite 3 so that was 14 years ago almost. She was only 76. Her sister though (my great aunt) is alive and well and just celebrated her 88th birthday! My other grandmother died at 89 when my DS was only 4 months old -- she was almost 40 when my father was born so she was quite a bit older than my other grandmother. Time passes quickly though because it doesn't seem that long ago. I often wish that I'd asked my grandparents more questions about their life growing up. I did do a project for a university course on my materal grandmother though and had her write down lots of stuff about growing up which is a great memory. I found out that she and my grandfather were married a year before everyone attended their 'wedding'. They kept the first marriage a secret for years afterwards. My great-grandmother didn't want my grandmother to get married until she had finished university and had worked for a year. My grandparents it turned out didn't want to wait for the year so they got married and didn't tell anyone. They then had a big family wedding the next year! My grandparents had met in grade school so I guess they were tired of waiting.

Now I'm the one that is lurkiing ... cause I'm to *#*#*#* busy to post much. BUT here goes.................

Mike ... Bummer about the heat pump but at least it was a lot less than (Yikes) you thought!.

Tell Kathy that Sam's Cub just got in the fold-up float like I had last year. They are $38 for 2 and as you recall fold up into a carry bag-folded up look like a 18 inch flying saucer. If you don't have a Sam's near you let me know so I can pick them up for you.

Eric & Anja ... Does your family like birthday cake or what? Nice to see that you have such a line of longevity.

MaryJo ... The clog type sneakers you like of mine are presently on sale at K-Mart for $9.99. They are all leather, elastic "ties" and are by SoHo I think! I may just get another pair myself cause they are really comfortable for walking and OMG exercising.

:bounce: :bounce: Wonderful News about the POW's being found and alive. THANK GOD that he let the Iraq people feel the calling to tell the USA where they were.

Hi to everybody else ... awfully busy at work. May check back later.

Hi Folks,

just got home (10pm) :( after aerobics I returned to the office to do some extratime
I have to take off again in 15 minutes to pick up Anja at the hospital. I hope to find time for the long due update tomorrow.

Yeah,
my family seems to get very old, but I told Gramps alread that from his 90th birthday one he may cross streets on red - And from his 95th BD on he MUST cross the streets on red :jester:
Just kidding, I'm grateful that he's still so fine. Wednesday night I will visit him and we'll watch a DVD together. I always do it when Anja has to do the lateshift. Since Granny passed away he's kind of lonely - No wonder after being married for more than 60 years.

OK,
see Y'all tomorrow

We had a small emergency here this am. Eric(Katie's Daddy) had bent over to pick up a sack for his mother who was visiting from Texas and the sack cut the cornea of his right eye. He went to the doctor this am and he is wearing a temporary contact lens on that eye to help the cornea heal.

I did get the grass mowed this weekend and was just cooling off after fixing dinner. Hope that everyone is having a good day and we are looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Mary Jo please be careful when you come down and try not to damage our latest state mascot ( the orange and white construction barrels) alongside the roads.

Great news, Stacey has been commissioned to do another catfish!! Mike

I think we saw these about two weeks ago at our Sam's Club and thought about getting them for our pool. (We didn't though.) Are you saying that you brought them on the cruise with you?? How did that work out?

We had a beautiful weekend here and we managed a nice balance of work and relaxation.

Someone mentioned six months until cruisetime. The next six months are the months I enjoy the most so I will not be wishing them away in order to make the cruise come sooner. I am happily anticipating seeing everyone (again and for the first time)but I will patiently bide my time for same.

ARLENE!!! Weather is turning nicer. Perhaps we can start thinking about getting together one day, if you would like.

Weather couldn't possibly be better over here: Temps in the high seventies, blue skies - The farmers and gardeners already pray for rain. I even can ride TO work with the top down.
But you're right, Rosemary: As much as I want to cruise right now, I also want to enjoy a wonderful summer.

Mike ... Bummer about DSIL Eric's eye. Give him our best. AND Stacey is doing another fish ... OK what's the theme for this one?
Hey, nice to hear all that college is paying off!

Rosemary ... Yes I brought mine onthe cruise and used it at Castaway Cay-Adult Beach and it was so nice. Since our Mystery Cruise ended up there twice I got a lot of use out of it. That's where Kathy saw it. They are really not hard to blow up ... just the outer edge is like an oblong small tube. Easy for adults to get on cause they aren't like wrestling an aligator. Then you just deflate and stick back into the bag they come with. I also thought that if you go to another beach on the cruise, you alrady have your float.

MaryJo ... Little does Mike know that in there are 3 seasons .. Winter, Construction and 4th of July! This is the first year that winter may have lasted longer than construction - hehehe.

OMG it's nice out today ... but by Thursday it's supposed to be back to the 40's.

Gotta Run ... work is sitting here looking at me!

God Bless the Troops, the Rescued POW's, The families of those that gave all and the innocent civilians! (So glad this confrontation may be over shortly)

Hey everyone! Sorry that I haven't been around much, life is crazy around here. Emily has learned to climb onto chairs and the couch and she's going to give either Chris or myself a heart attack. She keeps climbing onto the couch and they trying to climb on the end tables or the sofa table. Then on Saturday, in less than 24 hours, she fell 3 times on different things. Thank goodness she was ok, but boy oh boy, she makes me nervous. She's just fearless!!!

Also, we just converted her crib to a toddler day bed, so getting her to take naps and go to bed at night has been a struggle. She's feeling her independence, so she likes to climb out of bed and pull all of books down. Oh well, it's only been a few days, so I'm sure that it'll get better.

Cathy - I know what floats you are talking about. We almost bought them at Sam's last weekend to use in our pool. I didn't even think that they are small enough to bring on the cruise. I may have to go back and get them.

Mike - Sorry to hear about Eric's eye. I hope that he's feeling better soon!!

I'm so glad to hear that everyone's weather is getting nicer. It's been wonderful here, in the 80s and sunny.

Hey, we're going back to WDW next Tuesday for Chris's birthday (and Earth Day), and just wanted to know if anyone wanted anything. Let me know by Monday night.

Take care...Amy

Cathy here is Stacey's next catfish: Catch a wave She had originally entitled it Texas on the cumberland because of the mexican color scheme.

Have to run and get a shower before the Katie gets here. Mike

Amy & Rosemary .... The floats at Sams's are a two pack. Yu can squish them in with shoes (like I Did). I just thought of something, they are like those fold up sun shades for your car that have the wire in them and fole up circular. HINT ... keep the package on how to re-fold them until you are good at it!

I was using the $1 store kid blow up floats but started to get funny looks then I found this thing. Actually kind of amazing how it can hold you up .. well all but your backside cause that gets wet with the webbing in the water. I figured they pay for themselves after a few rentals and are much easier to carry than the ones at Castaway Cay (those big heavy blue things are like wrestling and carrying a shark).

? In the Roger Rabbit Movie, there is Roger Rabbit, Jessica Rabbit BUT what was the human guy's name? It's driving me nuts and that is just a short drive these days.

BTW I heard from Elaine and she lurks but has been under the weather healthwise lately ... She said to say HI to everybody. Sending her some Pixie Dust!
