I've been knitting lately and really enjoy it as long as the projects are small. I tried a baby blanket and it took soooo long that I just ended up making a scarf. :rotfl:

Does crocheting take as long or does it move faster than knitting. There's this really cool afghan that I would like to try to attempt, but not if it's going to take a reallylong time to complete. Oh and I have to learn to crochet too. :lmao: Is it easier or harder than knitting.

I absolulutely need new contacts. Geez, I read THIS thread and thought it said, "Crocheting vs. Knifing" and thought, "DANG this is gonna be a awesome!"

IME, crochet is both easier and quicker than knitting if you are doing "plain" work. As with knitting, when you get fancy you are looking at extra time and effort.

Beth I don't do either but SIL insists crocheting is easier.

My 11 year old dd does both. She learned to knit first, then crochet, and she says that it is faster and easier to crochet, and no longer knits. Me, I can't even sew a button on! :rotfl:

I learned to crochet many yrs ago (I must have been about 11). I learned to knit about 4 yrs ago. I prefer knitting. For me knitting is quicker, but I believe in general that crocheting is faster.
I for some reason jsut don't like to look of most crocheted items. However last night a friend was wearing a pair of fingerless gloves that she make, that I really likes.
I think par of it is that when I learned to crochet the big bulky yarns were in. If I took the time to learn to make something with a finer yarn I might like it.

I only know how to crochet & I love it. I taught myself.

Me too! :cool1:

I actually took a knitting class a few years ago and enjoyed it, but then got distracted crocheting an afghan for my mom's friend and forgot how to knit. :scared1:

Crocheting seemed easier - but I had been doing that for probably about 10 years or so before taking the knitting class. :confused3

I know how to do both, but right now I'm "into" knitting. To me, crocheting is faster, but I like the look of the finished knit projects - crochet has too many holes and is too "open" for stuff like sweaters.

I'm currently working on knitting my 5th sweater, and this one is flying along! I'm using Wool-ease thick & quick yarn, which is rated as 5 thickness (regular worsted is a 4), and it's turning out great! I've crocheted quite a few afghans, but I think my next project will be a knit afghan once I can find a pattern I really like.

I only know how to knit. I can only crochet enough to do edges and such. I love knitting.

I can do both and IMHO crocheting is much easier and goes quicker. I also think it's easier to hide mistake with crocheting;)

Me too. I personally don't like the look/texture of crocheting. I've been knitting over 30 years so am obviously biased, but also find the crochet patterns for garments hard to understand.

A few glasses of wine and it all makes sense...hence the need to hide mistakes:laughing:

I just picked up knitting recently after probably a 2 year hiatus. I found a small project I was working on. Since I was in the middle, I was able to pick up the knit stich right away. But when I went to bind off, I had to look up how to do it. Again with starting a new project. I couldn't, for the life of me, remember how to start and it took me several tries to finally get it right. :thumbsup2

This one that I'm looking at is just several different colored squares made into an afghan. The design doesn't look too fancy, so I'm hoping it's easy.

I just got some yarn to make some placemats. Those will take some time, so that gives me time to think about taking on this new crochet project.

Crocheted afghans are fairy straightforward. It's the sweaters that get me all goofed up. But if you asked me to do a complicated knitted cable, I'm all over it. Love knitting cables!

Me, too. I made an Irish knit afghan and loved working on it. It came out very nice. I learned to knit when I was about 9 (about 50 years ago) and find it easier than crochet. It's probably just a matter of practice.

So far everything I've done has been straight: scarves, dishcloths, coasters. I've done a few of those with a slight pattern and those were fun. I also tried baby booties, but out of 4 that I made, none of them were the same size. :rotfl: I don't intend on doing any complicated shapes for a while yet.

I taught myself to knit because dd (now 11) wanted to knit a scarf - we bought a dvd from JoAnn fabrics and I watch the videos on this site all the time

somebody reccomended this site (it has links for crochet help, as well as knit)

Does anyone ever watch knitty Gritty on DIY?

I wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong with the knit 3 Purl 3 so I could make a prayer shawl! (mine ends up looking like it has holes when I switch from knit to purl)
