Crocheting vs knitting

I believe that knitting is better for clothing. Crocheting is easier for blankets. BTW I know now to do both.

I wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong with the knit 3 Purl 3 so I could make a prayer shawl! (mine ends up looking like it has holes when I switch from knit to purl)

You probably aren't bringing the yarn to the front

I can crochet, think knitting looks much nicer; never tried though

the idea of needles without a hook to hold the project on intimidate me:confused3

I learned how to knit when I was about 9. I flunked crocheting in jr. high home ec class. I just couldn't get the hang of it. I passed that part of the semester only because I taught the teacher how to knit. I love knitting sweaters with cables or designs. My nephew started designing his own sweaters at age 4. He wanted to have the only one in the world like it. His favorite was his Goofy sweater in bright orange. I would love to learn to crochet too but have failed so many times I think it is hopeless.

I absolulutely need new contacts. Geez, I read THIS thread and thought it said, "Crocheting vs. Knifing" and thought, "DANG this is gonna be a awesome!"

OMG, that was so funny!! I taught myself to crochet many, many moons ago, in my teens, and just now have taught myself to knit. Personally, I like knitting better, but I think I can crochet faster than I can knit.

I tried learning how to knit and I just can't grasp it. Whether I had a bad teacher or not, I don't know. I love to crochet though!

I do both, too, and I agree with you.

I learned how to crochet from my grandmother and only relearned it while helping our Girl Scout troop earn a badge. I learned knitting from the helpful ladies at mothering.com and at craftster.org.

I am taking a sewing classes right now to learn to do it the "right" way. Now that is challenging  , but oh so fun.

Personally, I think crocheting is much faster than knitting. However, if you knit with Addi needles and use the continental method, you'll increase your knitting speed.

I have tried to knit continental, but my finger just don't work that way LOL

My favorite needles are the Denise interchangeable needles
