Creationism museum to be protested...

Interesting links. So, it's based on a literal interpretation of the bible. So, god created the earth in 7 days? Then he rested? Why? Was he tired? I thought he could do everything. Why did creating a universe tire him out that he needed a day off? And to do what?
Didn't anyone connected with this museum ever see or read Inherit the Wind? No, probably not.

This is interesting. A day is a revolution of the Earth, so...

  • If the Earth doesn't exist, how can you have a day?
  • During the creation of the planet, complete revolutions of all the matter may have taken zillions of years for all I know.
  • Is it inconceivable that these days were in fact, metaphorical descriptions aimed at making the history more accessible to humans less advanced than we are today?

He didn't rest b/c he was tired. He rested to set an example for us...set aside a Sabbath day.

Hmmm...Interesting question. Did he have an early tee time? :confused3

;)

God is the ultimate creator and scientist. He created the entire world, gave creatures and plants the ability to adapt, and gave us stewardship over it all. :thumbsup2

His recent raising of the average temparature of the earth 1/10 of one degree is sure causing hysteria. ;)

That God. Such a kidder.

Interesting questions. I guarantee you they will go unanswered.

There wasn't anyone to set an example for. And Adam and Eve weren't ever known for their work ethic. The animals sure work seven days a week. Hunting or trying not to be eaten.

I believe God knew at creation what civilization would be like then and now. I believe every step he took in creation had a specific purpose including the day of rest. The day of rest set an ultimate example for countless of faithful to follow after the fact.

This issue isn't between creationism and science. It's about American citizens exercising their Constitutional rights both inside and outside that "museum".

The ones inside can believe whatever myth they choose and the ones outside have every right to call it a myth. If the ones inside don't like it, they can start up their own Christian theocracy somewhere out of this country and can set up any system they wish. Until that time, they're in the good Old U.S. of A where they're just going to have to put up with the ones outside because they have every right to be there.

End of story.

I think people might be concerned because you expect a certain level of truthfulness when you enter a building called a museum.

I suppose this is why Iran won't be opening a Holocaust Museum anytime in the near future.

My personal beliefs, not that it matters, are a mixture of creationism and evolution. I do think those that dismiss faith as just a silly fantasy are being disrespectful. There are lots of things I don't believe in, but I wouldn't laugh in the face of those that do in a mocking tone.

I didn't mock anyone. Please keep reading.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you. I don't have an issue with those that don't agree with creationism, but there's a respectable way to disagree and present your own beliefs without putting others down. I think you've presented yourself well.

"One man's belief is another man's belly laugh." - Robert A. Heinlein

I don't stand outside churches ridiculing those that enter. But if someone knocks on my door, they deserve what they get. :teeth: Your beliefs are your beliefs, and you have every right to them. But if you put them "out there" - in the form of a museum or in the form of a post on a message board - then why should it be considered rude to post differing opinions?

Did I say it was rude to post differing opinions??:confused3 It's all in the delivery, my friend.:) Continue to post in whatever style make you feel good though.:thumbsup2

It's certain that if somebody opened a museum with the specific intent of presenting how the bible is wrong, there would be protests.

And no, the average museum does nothing of the kind. There is a difference between presenting science and specifically saying the bible is wrong here, here, and here.

But that is exactly what this Christian museum wants to do. But I'm sure people will say that's just fine. :goodvibes

Very bizarre. As an atheist and believer in evolution, I have no idea why anyone would want to demonstrate outside of the creationism museum. It's a waste of time and energy. The people opposed to creationism need to save their resources for the school board battles.

No doubt there would be protests. That's one of the things Americans do so well. It doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed.

It's just not a concern to me who opens what sort of museum.

As long as they don't use my tax money, I don't care either. But it does seem a little disingenous to be surprised that there are protests when we know full well the same would be true if the situations were reversed.
