Creationism museum to be protested...

??? :confused3 What "jabs" ? That creationism is a lie? It is. It's an illogical argument created by those that can not or refuse to understand evolutionary theory (and, again, "theory" is a procedural term...it isn't a guess...Gravity is also a "theory", but that doesn't make it any less real).

Umm...with all due respect....gravity has moved beyond theory and into scientific law. http://physics.about.com/od/classicalmechanics/a/gravity.htm

If you read the links, they aren't actually protesting the museum, or trying to prevent it's views from being expressed. They are just presenting alternative views to those of the museum.

:rotfl2: :thumbsup2 You busted me! I didn't even open the links. :flower3:

As long as it's not publicly funded and schools don't force children to go visit it, no biggie here. Going by the name of the place, most likely those going already know that it's really not a museum.

They have a right to have build the thing and those that don't like it have a right to make their views known.

I think people might be concerned because you expect a certain level of truthfulness when you enter a building called a museum. Any art museum presenting a painting by Monet has gone to great lengths to ensure that in fact Monet was the artist of the piece. Artifacts are authenticated in other museums and fraud or forgery is a scandal. The value and design of hands-on or interactive exhibits in places like childrens museums is researched by educators and developmental experts so that there is something to be learned from them. Museums are places that present truth. Creationism is a myth.

Exactly! If they would just call it a temple or church or celebration house...anything but a museum. I hate that people will see this place and somehow the word museum will give their ideas credibility to someone. I am NOT, however, going to protest. Plenty of crazies out there one could protest against; I choose the ones I think something can be done about.

Obviously that is your opinion. Those going to the museum would probably see plenty of truth presented.

Honestly I would find a museum about the history of religions, including Christianity, fascinating - as long as the exhibits and artifacts truthfully told the story of humanity and religion and our search for greater truths. I love learning about how the creation myths of various cultures are so similar. I enjoy learning how different rituals have made their way from old cultures and religions to newer cultures and religions. I appreciate why human beings feel the need to believe in greater powers and prayer. I actually have a great deal of respect for the both the goodness and the badness that have come to us in the name of religion. I just think that if you are going to present creationism as an absolute truth, you should call the building a church or a mosque or a synagogue.

Umm....actually I read the links and they do say protest and that they "fear" the effect the museum will have on kids. Sounds like a protest to me. :confused3

I believe in evolution, so I wouldn't be visiting this museum. Reading the articles, both christians and athiests are protesting. I understand their reasons, and if that is how they want to spend their time, they are entitled.

I figure that if we can have museums devoted to toasters, dolls, spam and string, then this museum is no different. As noted earlier, they are preaching to the choir. I went to a Native American Museum that taught the Native American belief system. I don't agree with it, but it was interesting. No radical urge to protest.

I wouldnt protest, to each their own. I certainly would protest if it became a school field trip destination though.

As far as evolution theory goes, lots of the data comes from genetics and dna study now. I personally find it fascinating that so much information from our past is in our own personal dna. I would love to be a part of the human genome project thru National Geographic, but I havent had the extra cash to put towards it yet (darn that college fund!).

HEY HEY I AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ISSUE!
NO ONE IS FORCING ANYONE TO GO TO IT.

SHOULD PEOPLE PROTEST 'RIPLEYS BELIEVE IT OR NOT MUSEUMS'?

I think this may be the reason...its in the Christian post article..."Challengers are calling the museum “fantasy,” however, and have expressed fear that their children may be influenced by what the museum teaches."

:confused3

Those poor athiests. I didn't know they cared.

They can go to a zoo for their museum. ;)

IT NOT JUST ATHEISTS WHO DONT AGREE....

"The protestors, who are made up of non-Christians as well as Christians who do not favor literal interpretations of Genesis, have dubbed themselves Rally for Reason"

*Shrugs*

As long as they're not harming people, they can exhibit anything for all I care.

Thank goodness we have people like you to set us straight :rolleyes2
Glad to be of service. :thumbsup2 But I can't take all the credit...I mean, science classes also kinda help to spread the word.

Do a search for "gravitational theory" and see how many thousands of hits you get. Yes, the "Law of Gravity" has attained that status. But there is still so much to try to understand. My apologies for not being more clear on that.

I don't believe in Creationism either, and I understand were Freckles is coming from. A Creationism museum just doesn't seem very... museumy.

But back to the topic at hand.. I mean, isn't this the same thing as those people protesting when the Da Vinci Code opened? Making a scene because someone doesn't believe in the same thing as you do? I don't quite see the point in it, but if that's what they want to do, let them knock themselves out.

I hope the children are influenced. :)

Exactly...free publicity.

I just don't "get" protesting, in general. It is usually counterproductive. Learned that when they kept everyone off of the streets the time the KKK was allowed to have a parade here. Stay away...and they go away.
