Creationism museum to be protested...

I don't get why they are protesting either, and I believe in eveloution.

That is funny. Well, they are more than welcome to protest. It will be good advertisement for the museum, but, I don't see the point.

I know some of the folks that are a part of that project. I don't believe there are/were any govt. funds used.

I know evolution to be scientific truth, but see no reason why the two need to be mutually exclusive.

I had heard about this when it opened - I just figure if there is enough interest - whatever...if not, it will go out of business.....

as long as it private funds, they have the right to it....

I really don't see what protesting will accomplish - though that group has a right to have their say as well...

(but I wholly support the teaching of evolution in public schools......)

I think people might be concerned because you expect a certain level of truthfulness when you enter a building called a museum. Any art museum presenting a painting by Monet has gone to great lengths to ensure that in fact Monet was the artist of the piece. Artifacts are authenticated in other museums and fraud or forgery is a scandal. The value and design of hands-on or interactive exhibits in places like childrens museums is researched by educators and developmental experts so that there is something to be learned from them. Museums are places that present truth. Creationism is a myth.

I think Freckles has a point, but I'm not sure it is worth protesting over. Granted, the museum is telling people lies, but the only people that will bother going are people that are already convinced, so it doesn't make any difference that I can see.

Unless there was public funding used, I don't see the purpose of this protest. This "museum" is really nothing more than an extension of church. I wouldn't protest a church going up, so why bother with protesting this "museum" of church beliefs?

I agree it isn't worth protesting over.

Obviously that is your opinion. Those going to the museum would probably see plenty of truth presented.

Ya just can't post with the jabs thrown in can ya? :confused3

Uh, creationism may be a myth but macroevolution is simply theory. Not even theory! It's a hypothesis. There is supposedly "overwhelming evidence" in the fossil bed that proves evolution, but did you know that 95% of all fossils found are CLAMS? The geological column (the figure that shows that simple fossils are at the deepest rock layers and complex fossils are at the top) is only about 5% of the fossil record. And if macroevolution actually happened, how come the clams didn't evolve? :confused3 And there's tons more SCIENTIFIC evidence against macroevolution than there is for it, including in microbiology, genetics, etc. I can't find the quote, but a revered evolutionist said that there is no possible way that evolution is at all scientific, but that was the only possible explanation that would deny the existence of a creator so that's why he believes it.

Now MICROevolution, sure, there's all kinds of scientific evidence for that, enough evidence to make it a theory. I believe wholeheartedly in microevolution. But micro- and macroevolution are completely and totally different.

??? :confused3 What "jabs" ? That creationism is a lie? It is. It's an illogical argument created by those that can not or refuse to understand evolutionary theory (and, again, "theory" is a procedural term...it isn't a guess...Gravity is also a "theory", but that doesn't make it any less real).

Thank goodness we have people like you to set us straight :rolleyes2

I'm not a creationist, but I don't get the protest. I though letting all views be expressed was a core progressive value (heh heh)

There is supposedly "overwhelming evidence" in the fossil bed that proves evolution, but did you know that 95% of all fossils found are CLAMS?
With all due respect, even if that is true, it doesn't tell us anything one way or the other about the validity of evolution.
The geological column (the figure that shows that simple fossils are at the deepest rock layers and complex fossils are at the top) is only about 5% of the fossil record.
Again, even if this is true, it doesn't tell us anything one way or the other about the validity of evolution.
And if macroevolution actually happened, how come the clams didn't evolve? :confused3
Because they fill their ecological niche better than any other species - which is exactly what evolution tells us will happen.
And there's tons more SCIENTIFIC evidence against macroevolution than there is for it, including in microbiology, genetics, etc.
Tons more? Really? How did you measure that?
I can't find the quote, but a revered evolutionist said that there is no possible way that evolution is at all scientific, but that was the only possible explanation that would deny the existence of a creator so that's why he believes it.
And again with all due respect, that fact that there might be one guy (whose name you don't know) who believes in evolution who said something about it having to do with denying a creator doesn't change the fact that evolution has nothing to do with denying a creator.

Evolution is the best scientific explanation for the evidence we have.

I though letting all views be expressed was a core progressive value (heh heh)
If you read the links, they aren't actually protesting the museum, or trying to prevent it's views from being expressed. They are just presenting alternative views to those of the museum.
