Creationism museum to be protested...

I completely subscribe to BioEthos (evolutionary creationism) Even before Darwin, back in 300 A.D. to be more correct, Augustine (it may be Constantine, it is the whole "tine" thing) wrote that God's days are not our days. A day to us is a thousand years to Him. I have no trouble in believing whether or not Genesis was a metaphor for God's creation. Adam and Eve could be a metaphor for Man's eventual falling out of favor with God. Jesus spoke in parables, why not that particular part of the Bible. When one looks at Genesis, it is not written out like other parts of the Bible that described historical facts. It is more poetic in nature, a bit like Revelations. The writer was not understanding what they were writing to its fullest extent, so they had to be able to write in metaphors that described it the best they could. God and Evolution are not mutually exclusive. I see evolution being God's way of making his creation all the more exciting and interesting.

edited to add: Yom, the word used in the Hebrew book of Genesis means a 24 hour day or an unspecified amount of time. Makes one think.

What an experience! OT but my daughter and I had "stage seats". I got them through a promotion..Turns out we were part of the jury on the stage...$36!!!! :thumbsup2 The two leads were so wonderful (Plummer and Dennehy!) The play was fabulous, a must see, and keep your eyes out for stage seating..We could have reached out and touched these Hollywood legends!

Honestly I would find a museum about the history of religions, including Christianity, fascinating - as long as the exhibits and artifacts truthfully told the story of humanity and religion and our search for greater truths. I love learning about how the creation myths of various cultures are so similar. I enjoy learning how different rituals have made their way from old cultures and religions to newer cultures and religions. I appreciate why human beings feel the need to believe in greater powers and prayer. I actually have a great deal of respect for the both the goodness and the badness that have come to us in the name of religion. I just think that if you are going to present creationism as an absolute truth, you should call the building a church or a mosque or a synagogue.

Very well said. I 100% agree.

Read the Bible and you will know. :)
Joe, I read my Bible all the time. Which is why I get annoyed when people misrepresent what it says. You can I are going to disagree about what things in the Bible mean - but there's no reason for us to disagree about what it says. So when you say *Jesus* made it clear, what in the Bible caused you to say that?

Joe,

Jesus isn't making it clear he's speaking in parables, the writers of the Gospel are telling us that these parables. And note that these two *aren't* typical examples. If you read what we consider to be parables, most of them don't start off with the writer telling us it is a parable. (Note that if you look hard enough - you'll even find one or two places where Jesus does tell us that he is using a parable).

Note that Jesus also used allegories and other literary devices that aren't meant to be taking literally.

This is exactly why I have no intention of teaching my future children about a specific religion but a little bit about ALL of them (at least the major ones: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Paganism...). Kids don't belong to a religion - they're not old enough to understand. When they're old enough to choose a religion - or none - I'll support that decision, but I'm sure as heck not going to make that decision for them!

That's what I'd like to do as well. I'd rather let my kids take their pick than foist a religion on them.

I understand you points, but I don't know how the Scripture I used can be anymore clearer than it is. Are you really not sure it's a parable?

No, salmoneous is saying parables are recognizable. Jesus might say "Let me tell you a parable", or the Gospel writers might as in the example you gave. Or Jesus might just tell a story that is recognized as a parable: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like...". But we don't have to have Jesus tell us what is to be taken literally or what isn't.

Likewise, it's easy to recognize that Genesis is an allegory, not factual.

I, too, am saying that parables are recognizable. :)

Of course the only bible scholars that are important are the ones the person agrees with. The rest should just be ignored.

So you're trying to tell me that Genesis is fact? :lmao: So what happened to the Neanderthals? Why don't we find modern H0mo sapiens sapiens in the fossil records in the same dates we find H0mo habilis or erectus?

The scripture you used does make it clear it's a parable - but it's the writers that make it clear, not Jesus. Jesus almost never felt the need to say, "I'm about to tell you a parable". He just told a story and figured people could figure out that it was a parable. For most of Jesus' parables, we don't have either Jesus or the writer telling us it's a parable. We are able to tell from the context. Every story in the Bible isn't meant to be taken literally.

The creator stories in Genesis are told as stories, not as history. That's how I believe we should take them.

Dino fossils were put here by God to mess with human scientists, right?

(at least that's what one Christian told me)
