Crazy to Just Bring Carry On to Disney?

Has anyone here ever done this to Europe? Planning (and hoping) 11 days in the fall. The first night is an overnight flight of course. I can wear whatever coat or jacket I bring, and my running shoes will be on my feet, so maybe a pair of casual flats in my bag. We have 2 nights in most hotels, so I think I can hand wash a top that needs it when we first check in to each hotel, so I can probably minimize the amount of clothing. I really don't mind paying to check a bag, but I'm afraid of looking out the window and seeing it on the tarmac as my plane leaves the gate. How ridiculous has travel become?

One more question, my carry on bag doesn't seem to fit the exact dimensions required. It's part of a Hayes set with 360 degree wheels, it stands 22 " tall from floor to the top of the suitcase, but the handle which is flexible, puts it over by about an inch. Do you think that will pass?

We are planning carryons only for a week in Vienna next month. I can’t do carryon only to Disney because I love to buy souvenirs (can’t resist a new Loungefly). But overseas trips we always do just a carryon and wash our clothes fairly frequently. Whether a trip is one week or 6 weeks, we go with 4-5 pairs of underwear/socks and just keep repeating what we wear. Mind you, we are far from stylish!

So we are 4 carryons ..and 4 backpacks...which we could have gotten away with,,,,but i know we are bringing things back ,,,so I told thenwife we are taking 2 checked with things that wont make or break our vaca,,,so carryons are now lighter,,and backpacks just have food and snacks,,,very doable,,,,but we have laundry as well
