Crazy to Just Bring Carry On to Disney?

I have done Carry On to Florida no issue. I have travel size for all my essentials. FYI - Prescriptions DO NOT count against your limit. You do not need to fit them into that little sizing bag they give you.

Hi Hon
My biggest problem is I have been away for 3 years and just know I am going to want to bring back a (few) things.
If in Jan things are still not improved at Toronto airport I will fly with a carry on. I will also be taking a large bag purse
that I can stuff a few things into.
I allow myself one medium size baggie for all necessary toiletries and /meds.
Basins in Disney Springs has all sorts of toiletries you can pick up. I usually make a shopping trip from our Resort via Uber to Target /Walmart also.

https://www.disneysprings.com/shopping/basin/

Also have a look here

https://www.themouseforless.com/walt-disney-world/dining/money-saving-tips/shopping-for-groceries/

I also take my oldest PJs & housecoat and will throw them out before returning.

I find that Green Mile at Pearson Airport one I really hate so if I can skip luggage pick when I come home it's a win win.

Best wishes
Mel
Thank you so much! We have no park booked on our first day and our tentative plan (before hearing about all of these airport issues) was to go to Disney Springs. So if we still arrive with enough time, that store sounds perfect. Will note it down.

Also, thanks very much for the link of Publix/Walmart, etc near by. We won't have a car but can always grab an uber if we find we need more than what the resort has. I'm noting the link in my Disney notes.

Lol...I don't think my old pjs are wearable but do love the idea if had old ones lying around.

Hopefully thing are better for you by the new year.

P.S. - Anyone know if the hairdryers at Contemporary Resort are good? Will need to bring my flat iron. I tend to bring my own hair dryer for trips but will give it up if required.

Don't know about the ones at Contemporary, but the standard issue ones at POP and All Stars are powerful full size hair dryers. Would guess all the same but maybe post your specific question on the Contemporary Resort thread under Disney Resorts forum and sure regular posters will let you know. The resort-specific threads are a goldmine of info.

Great. Thank you. Will post on the Contemporary resort thread.

We almost always fly carry on only - as you said, gate checking isn't really a concern here because at that point you shouldn't be too worried about cancellations.

Funnily, Disney is one of the few places we check bags, even international trips we're usually carry on only.
We only check bags to Disney in order to bring loads of our favorite sunscreen (we all burn easily) and have plenty of room to bring things back, like I think lightsaber will fit in our checked bag. But then I also bring a carry on sized backpack, and the kids will have at least 1 change of clothes + swimwear on them.

Backpack is https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Carry-On-Travel-Backpack-Black/dp/B01J24H2K0 (there are lots of similar, which are probably also great, just not sure how to describe it well)

oh! If the hair dryers aren't suitable (not sure, my hair air dries half the time) chi and a few other brands make mini travel irons that might work and take up very little space.

Just do laundry mid way through your trip.
Thanks. It's good it's available as an option. But honestly, I really prefer not. We plan on being at the park from morning to night (so don't want to do so at 10pm or so)...and also, tbh, I wouldn't mind a vacation from chores for a week. :-) Don't mind handwashing something in the bathroom sink, but not a full load.

I only do carry on. Except my last cruise because we drove so we way over packed. Our last trip to Disney we had one carry on, and each a personal item. It was fine, we had lots of room. I take travel sized items we can leave behind (like toothpaste and small sunscreens or shampoo/conditioner). I will say we don't buy a lot of stuff any more, and when we had the Disney magic of the checked bags showing up in the room I would check one just because it was a fun surprise, but it's kind of a pain. We tend to pack clothes that dry fast, neutral colours to mix and match, and always two or more swimsuits. We pack sandals and wear our running shoes, that's usually good for the parks.

For the liquids, last time I did what I always do in the security line and put both in one bucket with some other small things and then got yelled at by the security guy and told to separate them next time. We were flying to Toronto then Orlando and I've never had that problem before. Oh well. I have some refillable containers so use those for sunscreen mostly. I tend to use the shampoo the hotels offer, but take some conditioner.

The longest trip we've done with only carry on was a pre cruise hotel night, 7 night cruise, and two nights at Disney. That was only tricky because of needing certain dress up clothes for the cruise. Disney by itself is much easier.

Thanks. Yeah, don't think I could do carry on for a cruise for the reason you state it being tricky.
Disney in August seems easier.

I am strongly considering carry on for our Nov/Dec WDW trip. I was looking at the prices of pre-selecting our seats and OMG I almost fainted! When did they get so expensive? I'm talking $50+ for one seat for each leg!

Are you booking basic economy? Isn't seat selection normally included?

Yea likely the cheapest fares since I am using air miles. But even that was really "expensive"! My Halifax to Toronto leg is pretty empty right now, but the Toronto MCO leg is about half full. Same with my return direct flight home.

Maybe ask yourself if its really necessary? Def if traveling with a small child but if adults only maybe not needed. I tried this once about 5 yrs ago with AC/Rouge - think it was $50 then also - then they switched the plane at the last minute and my seat selection was gone. I was seated randomly on the new plane next to the toilet as it was a full 7am flight return from MCO to YYZ. I had to fight to get my $50 back. AC desk at MCO wouldn't help advising not their department. No help with customer service on the phone. Had to complete a detailed online request report. Reimbursed 2+ months later. Never again. YMMV.

Well, I am more concerned about them overbooking the flight and then I don't have a seat to start with.

Anyways, didn't mean to hijack the OP's thread LOL Just ranting...

If you need extra shampoo or conditioner, housekeeping will bring it. A lot of the resorts now have the large dispensers of shampoo/conditioner/shower gel mounted on the wall in the shower. Not sure about the CR, have not stayed there since the remodel. I wouldn't worry about a hairdryer, either. They are not the best, but in hot humid August, no one has good hair days at WDW! As long as I have a flat iron, I can manage with a less than perfect hair dryer. Hair ties are my best friend in FL in August!

I'm not from Canada but I do only take a carry on and one personal item. Disney provides shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in all resorts. The deluxe resorts also provide lotion and few other little things so I wouldn't bother bringing that. I'm pretty sure all resorts now have the dispensers on the wall in the shower but if they don't just ask Mousekeeping, they will give you plenty more. Put your hair up in a pony tail or wear a cap, it's Disney, it's hot and it rains. Take wipes for make up removal if you have to wear makeup. I wear the same shorts (in my case skorts) at least twice and take extra t-shirts because it's hot but those can fold up tiny. I don't wear close toed shoes so I can fit 3 extra pairs of shoes no problem since they are sandals. I don't do laundry there either, if I run out of undies, I wash a few pair in the sink.

Lol....so true about hair and humidity. Mine is the worst! And yes...definitely bringing my flat iron but luckily it's not too big. Thanks for mentioning about the shampoo/conditioner. DH was just saying that they will bring us more if needed.

No worries at all. This site is to talk about many things and still related to travel. I hope both legs of your flight works out. It's all so stressful.

Lol....never noticed they are called Mousekeeping.
And yeah....agree with the packing....can re-wear shorts but extra tshirts/tanks. Perfect...I have feet issues and just bought a new pair of sandals too for vairety (and concerned my current ones are so old so wearing out). Good thing I have small feet...lol...so shouldn't take up much space.

Definitely gonna look into make up wipes. I don't wear much but do wear a bit of eye liner.

One item to confirm....I think someone said that the resorts sell sunscreen, right?

Such great advice on here....and seems like we are not alone in our thinking.
