Pool hopping

I can only guess why. Probably no longer worth it to DVC and 2020 was convenient to quietly let it go.

It was suspended back in 2020 after the shutdown. Things re-opened but pool hopping never returned. Oddly it’s the only perk listed on my resale membership. One lonely perk that doesn’t even exist and hasn’t for over 5 years

I agree with @Genie+ 's assessment that it's probably not worth the effort. I would further venture to guess that with all deluxe resorts now having some sort of DVC component to them, the pools at the deluxe resorts are all pretty crowded. (DVC'ers tend to have more resort days than regular guests.) This would make less room at the pool for others to enter - of course, I'm speculating and can see the argument against what I'm saying. Further, I would think that it's easier on Disney's CM's and IT Department to check that guests at the pool are indeed from that resort.

Of course, this is all speculation. For all I know, it'll return tomorrow!

The thing I find most hilarious about it is pool hopping happens ALL the time - including by people who aren't staying anywhere on property dare I say... And in several instances at resorts that pool hopping was never allowed in the first place....

They have been doing more to put an end to it and give out wristbands.

Many of the newer resorts were excluded as time went on and I just think there are too many DVC owners now to include it.

What I find hilarious is the percentage of the population that is either abjectly stupid, blindly ignorant, or simply intellectually unable to comprehend a clearly stated rule, posted on prominently located signs, regardless of their own opinion of the rule (which is immaterial and isn't the opinion that matters).

An important distinction between the old DVC pool hopping perk and blue card privileges is the latter is not in any way funded by membership dues. DVD marketing budget pays for blue card perks. All members pay maintenance fees, some of which pay for resort amenities including pools. If DVC is to have that type of pool sharing program in place, it needs to treat all dues paying members equally. Blue card privileges can treat members differently depending on the terms of the contracts they own.

Things are much different than they were 10-15-20 years ago… back before major resale restrictions happened in 2016, before BLT was the first and/or only monorail resort, before DVD sold another 10+ million new WDW points, etc. Pool hopping likely had a net benefit to selling DVC and with how much has evolved that may no longer be the case in today’s DVC landscape.

Holy crow - you're not kidding! The number of changes that we've seen in the past 27 years (give or take) are crazy. My kids used to love going to the MK, and then going to use the pool at the GF and enjoy lunch there, That was well before the GFV were a thing. We pool hopped a lot when the kids were younger because we could and it was fun. We were never a "rope drop to fireworks" type of family. Always took a break and went swimming before returning at night...
