Crap, did I really need to cancel that night?

or could I have done some fancy 'room only' trick I've seen mentioned here? (my first real Disney trip in many years, not familiar with all the tips yet). I had a basic pkg. booked for 9 nts. 2/24 - 3/5. But the Free Dining for my period starts 2/25. So I called and cancelled 2/24 and said we will stay for 8 nts. starting 2/25. Did I have to do that? I really would prefer not to lose a day (but am not willing to do any sort of 'stay off-site for 1 night, then move to ASMU the following day'................Or AM I?............ :rolleyes1

but seriously, as soon as I hung up (on hold almost an hour) I thought -- is there any way we can still arrive on 2/24 and get the Free Dining and our tickets starting 2/25? (we're not planning to do any parks on 2/24 anyways, we were going to arrive in the afternoon).

sorry, i'm typing as I think here..... It seems like I could call back and make a "room only" ressie for the 24th right? But will we have to change rooms? I guess that's not SO bad......

Could you add a day at the end instead? You only need to ARRIVE within the date range.

no, we really need to come back on Sat. (night) as opposed to Sunday. I want to have a full day for DS to recover for school on Monday. It's bad enough he'll be missing 2 weeks of school ( first week is school Feb. vacation, second week our trip :/ )

can anybody confirm that I can do a room-only res. for the previous night? I don't want to call again right now as the waits are probably long.

You most likely can but I don't know how it works if you are trying to stay at the same resort. You could do the first night off site. Buena Vista suites (through mousesavers) is $99 a night I think.

I would try calling this afternoon. The wait times seem to be crazy long right now. I heard someone has been waiting 2 hours!! :scared1:

Yes, you can as long as there's availability. But since it's a different reservation, there is no guarantee that you won't have to change rooms, even if you're at the same resort. But it's no big deal; they'll move your bags for you as long as you're packed. You just need to go down to the desk and check in again for your package.

I did this last year, with my room only at a different resort for 1 night (no availability at my preferred resort). All I did was make sure I had all my overnight and next morning necessities in my carryon (which I generally do anyway in case they lose my luggage :scared1:). So I only had to unpack and repack one small bag. Easy.
