Cozumel Secret River....Need some input

We are definitely choosing this one but we are also traveling with our friends that have a 5 yo. The DCL site states for 6 and older for this excursion. Now the 5 yo child would be 3 months shy of his 6 birthday, and he is taller, bigger than my 7 yo.
Anyway I know how strict DCL is on age and rules so I figured that maybe we could book through non DCL, but I'm a bit nervous being it is such a long excursion and never booked outside DCL.
I would like them to be able to join us. So I ask the Dis family to please chime in. Does anyone have reviews, agencies used, recommendations, or should we definitely not book it through outside agency?

Disney is 100% firm on minimum ages. They know how old the child is and you won't even have the option of booking them on the web-site.

If DCL has the limit set at 6 years old, they most like will not budge due to insurance reasons.

We wanted to do the America's Cup Challenge in Cozumel and my daughter was a few months shy of the age limit however, she has extensive sailing experience sailing as we are a sailing family. We couldn't book through Disney but I contacted the company directly and they had no problem letting her participate due to her age and sailing experience, so we booked with them directly.

As for the excursion you are looking at, I really don't have any knowledge of that and can only speak to the age limit when booking through DCL.

Thanks I was almost certain that DCL wouldn't allow it. I worry about the timing of that excursion. How do you go about finding out which company Disney uses for an excursion? I have read on here that some people book through a company Disney uses and they actually have people who booked it through DCL in their excursion group.
