Country Music Full/Half April 25th, 2009

Hey there! DH and I are both going to be there. His first full and I'll be doing the 1/2. Also staying at the Hampton on Donelson and will have a rental car if anyone needs a ride.

We stayed there year before last and they had shuttles everywhere. Shuttles to and from the race and to downtown all weekend long. We are staying there again this year because it is the best rate close to downtown. They have a restaurant in the hotel and they bent over backwards to help us with everything we needed for our weekend.

I have to second the Maxwell House. I stayed there in 2006 when I went down for the CM half and I am staying there again. They had shuttles in 2006 and I am pretty sure they will again this year. For anyone doing the full the race goes right around the parking lot making it easy for family to roll out of bed and watch from the hotel. I do have to warn you that the roads around the hotel are closed. I was down there with some non runners in 2006 and they had to trek it to get to a place that would have cabs since our car was sequestered in the parking lot until 1:00pm.

I am not sure if I would be able to do a meet, it depends on when and where. I'm not going alone so I will have to see if everyone is up for it.

In 2006 the free concert was Phil Vassar. It was pretty nice but this year the Dave Matthews Band is playing Vanderbilt stadium Saturday night so that is where we will be (even though tickets were $90 by the time TicketMaster was done).

Ok, my friend said she couldn't come, so I'm starting to get cold feet.

I have a "reality check" question for y'all. I have not run since last Sept. when I started getting my varicose veins worked on. I did do a 5K in October, but haven't done anything since. I do walk about 2-4 miles 5 days a week. Is it feasible that I could get in enough training to do the Half?

I have never done a half before. I was supposed to do one in Nov. but due to the veins my training took a backseat. I have been cleared by the doctor to run, so that isn't a problem. I just think I may be getting the "cart before the horse", and getting all wrapped up with the excitement of meeting my friends.

What do y'all think?

I went from total zero in January to a half in April during 2007. I never even dreamed of doing a race event until I went to the marathon to cheer my daughter on. I witnessed the support of the WISH team with my own eyes and saw that alot of their members were not what I previously would have thought of as "athletic". I was instantly hooked and started training. I walked my first half marathon 3 months later with a time of 3:11! At the time I used Wendy Baumgardner's plan from walking.about.com and followed it pretty much to the letter. I am in my mid-fifties and am quite a bit overweight, so if i can do it, anyone can!

Mike and I found out today that we can definitely come to Nashville!
We're also at the Hampton Inn.party: It's looks like there will be quite a party at the Hampton.

Can't wait to see everyone again!

Has anyone done this course before? How hilly is it? I think I could do it, if it is relatively flat, or rolling hills. Not sure about steep hills. I did 3 miles yesterday at a 13:00 pace. I did 4 miles today on my bike. I'm hoping to strengthen the left side of my body, so that I can do this. I've got 9 days to consider it. :scratchin

Rolling hills. Lots of them on the half course but the second half is relatively flat. The hills aren't bad at all but I would definately train for them. Use an incline on your treadmill once or twice a week if nothing else.

I'm wondering if I could pull this off after having surgery in a couple weeks...
I thought about running this last year.

Cecilia, how long does it take to get there? Is it any hillier than the ING?

How long you guys think I can wait to register? It didn't fill last year? Wondering about getting a room, though...

So what makes this so fun? Please tell!

Shan - I know from Atlanta, it takes about 4 hours to get there. I'm still not registered and don't have a room either. I did notice that the HI that everyone is staying at just went up $40 from the first time I checked. If I go, I need to see if I can contact Karen's person, and hopefully she still has a deal.

yeah, inquiring, indecisive minds want to know...:scratchin

One of my coworkers ran it two years ago, and she said that there were bands playing all along the way, and that made it fun.

I'm in for Nashville CMM 1/2:cool1: and booked at the Hampton Inn Donnelson.

Can't wait to see y'all:grouphug:

DH says he can't take off any more time. (He works on Saturdays.)
Course, he is taking off a Saturday to do a trail race with his buddy from work... :scratchin I'll keep working on him.

So, anybody looking for a roomie? I shouldn't even be thinking about it, but if I was sharing expenses with someone... maybe... Otherwise, I'm doing the responsible thing (don't cha just hate that?!?) and staying here to cheer you folks on from afar... :)

I got an e-mail promo from Alamo today for a $10/day weekend rate and it worked for me from 4/24-4/26:cheer2:

The only thing that defaults in when I click through the e-mail link is the corp ID of 7014730.

Hopefully that'll work for others looking for a car rental. If you need the e-mail, PM me and I'll shoot it your way:thumbsup2

What an AWESOME group of WISHers heading for Nashville!!!

Cecilia, thanks for the info on the course. I looked at the elevation map...such as it is...:rotfl2:

Sandi, you KNOW I'm a back of the pack person..hang with me and you'll get there!! 13:00 pace is flying for me!! :) Definitely contact Karen about who to talk to about the rate. Jeanne got the best deal, though, I think!

See ya'll at the start line if not before!! :goodvibes Anne
