Could This Be True? No Pooh in May?

Park News - (4/7/03) Screamscape has heard that Pooh will be closed down for nearly the entire month of May to perform rehab and add some kind of new safety equipment.

Read this at screamscape I have no idea how reliable this information is at this web site, first time I've been there today.

I dont know if its true or not, but didnt someone recently post here how their child or niece or something was "almost killed" getting on to Pooh? Maybe after the accident, Disney decided they needed to step up the safety of that ride. Obviously I dont know if any of this is true, just a thought.

The child wasn't almost killed, and it was more of an incident than an accident. I am 100% positive that that alone is not the reason for the rehab.

I read this information also. I have been following screamscape for about 3 years now, and they get some really good information over there. I would say 9 times out of 10 they hit the nail on the head as far as rumors go. They have a lot of people that help get the information. I would say to wait a couple of weeks. If they rumor is not true they will surely update the site and let everyone know. Hope this helps!!!

Intercot as well as the official WDW site mention nothing about it..I'm not sure about the 90% accuracy of Screamscape

That is exactly why I put it in quotes....it was what that poster was claiming.

Like I said, it was just a thought. Im pretty sure its not the reason for the rehab too, but the OP mentioned rehab AND adding some new safety equipment. That rang a bell with me about that incident.

Wow, this is depressing. I been telling my daughter all the things she can do and she was so excited about riding pooh. I hope this is a false rumor.

Pooh needs a rehab badly; it wouldn't surprise me if this were true. There are several spots in fantasyland that are below Six Flags standards in terms of maintenance right now

I just checked Deb's page for rehabs and Pooh was not listed. I have found her page to be pretty accurate in the past.

I hope not. I'd cry more than my 3 YO!!

Last August, we must have rode Pooh at least 10 times. She will be very disappointed if it's closed.

I know no matter when it's closed, some child (and mom) will be disappointed but I hate it when it's me

Haven't heard anything about the timing other than what's on Screamscape, however, many rides are apparently going to get new safety features. Mainly due to the incident on Roger Rabbit in Disneyland a couple of years ago.

ITA with this. Peter Pan is one of my favorite rides, and I'd hate for it to be closed when we go, but dang!! The black walls have so many chips in the paint that it is distracting. In January one of my friends noticed that the ceilings in IASW needed some attention, too.

A child somehow fell out of one of the cars and got pinned under the next, severely (and permanently) injuring him. That was just shortly after someone got killed on the Columbia, so it got a lot of media attention.

Screamscape's rumors are actually quite frequently dead on even though many people in the park enthusiast community will go on and on how everything they are saying is a bunch of bull only to be proved wrong months later when the park in question makes an official announcement. The most famous of these was when Paramount's Kings Island was designing Tomb Raider the ride. Screamscape posted blueprints that they claimed were for Tomb Raider months before the ride opened. The blueprints showed a Huss Giant Top Spin ride enclosed in a building with special effects. Everyone in the community was like, "This is a bunch of bull, there is no way Kings Island would put something like that in their park." Even people that WORK at the park were saying there was no way that was what they were building. A few months later, the attraction opened and bam! Huss Giant Top Spin enclosed and with special effects.

With something as routine as a Disney ride rehab, even if it is on-season, I would take what they have to say pretty seriously.
