Do You Still Ride All The Rides

During our August family trip I rode them all and came out of it fine (I'm 71 in November). The only ride I hadn't ridden was Tron and I loved it. Was able to get in and out of the seats just fine. Here's a picture of me and my 8 year old granddaughter riding it.

64 and still ride and love coasters etc. I do use Dramamine now for rides like Forbidden Journey or Mission Space Orange etc., rides with a lot of jerking and turning. I will admit that last year when I rode the Hulk, I felt a little "Hulk green" after it, which never happened on any trips before that. Luckily it only lasts for about 15 minutes and did not slow me down.

I have to admit that I never thought aging was going to be this mean. On one hand I'm still alive (77) and able to be with friends and family while on the other hand my body, which doesn't look any different size and muscle wise is so much weaker. It is so frustrating and hard to accept. Having to be polite to all those well intended people willing to give you a hand is appreciated and at the same time maddening. Not at them, at the need.

Internal problem! I know and I would never say anything negative to someone whose only crime was to try and help me. It all became clear two years ago on Christmas Eve. We had our traditional Christmas Eve family get together, I had brought some Shrimp in one of those circular trays with the cocktail sauce in a little cup in the center. I spent 10 minutes just trying to pull the cover off that little cup and I had to finally ask my 19 year old granddaughter if she would try. Of course, she just pulled the tab and in seconds it was open. That was the same tab I had been tugging on the previous 10 minutes. She graciously told me that I had loosened it so it made it easier for her, but I knew better.

Although I still feel that there is no ride in Disney that I cannot handle, I've become more aware that somethings aren't worth the possible consequences. I would never just sit on a bench and watch others have a good time, but I am also wise enough to not press my luck for a two minute ride. There are only a few that I will skip but there are some voluntarily off-limits to me now.

Had a stroke to my motion control cerebellum area in May that causes dizziness for things like getting up from tying shoes or walking too fast. We still went to our planned WDW trip, returned Mon. I did still ride everything such as Gotg, teacups, aliens, EE. But I did experience dizziness on Space Mt. I took dizzy chews and pills with me but didn't end up taking them, I was more curious how it would go this trip given I'm normally down for any coaster. But this year with 5 surgeries and a 6th already scheduled for Nov., I was the posterchild for someone who should heed the warning labels and not ride some of those bigger rides. Talked to my dr about it beforehand and she actually was supportive of still riding what I wanted at WDW.

Over the years since my first visit in 1992
I have ridden every ride except Space Mountain, Rockn Rollercoaster, Tron, Guardians, and Expedition Everest. Now, the only coaster I go on is The Mine Train. Even Slinkydog was one and done for me.
My favorite ride of all time is Avatar Flight of Passage.
The rides I once rode but no longer go on are:
Big Thunder Mountain, Barnstormer,
Splash Mountain/now Tiana’s,Tower of Terror, Test Track, Mission Space, and Dinosaur.
There are still plenty of attractions for me to enjoy!

I ride all the rides but this past Dec trip I found myself getting dizzy and nausea sometimes on the simulator rides… just turned 60 this year and my son was calling me old man all trip !!!…lol
I have never had motion issues before but recently went to Universal's Epic Universe and rode all the roller coasters and rides. Some of them are quite intense and I did feel the need to sit down for a bit in between (I'm 63). At Disney I gave up on Mission Space years ago because I am just not interested, and I don't like Rock N roller coaster due to the over the shoulder restraints so I don't do that anymore.

I go for family fun and to be at Disney, not for ANY ride, though I have ridden and do occasionally ride almost all of them. I do enjoy a few rides but NONE of them are 'motion rides'.

I am 71 and in good enough shape to ride anything. However, I have tended towards motion sickness since my teenage years and after my 40s I just was too sick to enjoy it. I especially HATE most 3-D rides. I only ride most rides when my family needs me to, and they know they are asking a lot if it is a motion ride.

I HAVE ridden all of the following within the last year or so. (I just gritted my teeth and tried to hold it down):

Avatar Flight of Passage
Expedition Everest
Kilimonjaro Safaris (Even this one is starting to make me too sick, sometimes.)
Dinosaur

Rockin Roller Coaster
Tower of Terror (and Guardians of the Galaxy in California)
Star Wars Rise of the Resistance (MOSTLY tolerable, except when the cars are moving around, running away)
Slinky Dog (The smoooothest coaster in WDW. ALMOST tolerable.)
Alien Saucers

Guardians of the Galaxy in WDW (but NOT Tron Lightcycle)
Test Track (And Radiator Springs in Calif) - They are mostly okay
Ratatouille (Yeah, it makes me sick, too)

Thunder Mountain and 7 Dwarfs (Even these 'Junior' coasters are more than I LIKE.)
Space Mountain

Escape from Gringott's (Oh, sorry. Wrong park. By the way, the Ministry of Magic ride and most of the roller coasters at EPIC Universal are just as bad).

I have only listed most of the rides that really move a lot. I don't care if I EVER go on any of the above, ever again. I'm glad people enjoy them, but to me Disney is about seeing my Family have fun, and enjoing the Ambience.

I am pushing 70 and totally agree. We did a trip to Universal and most of the rides I enjoyed before such as Incredible Hulk were a no go. Spider Man used to be one of my favorites, but that was a little rough. King Kong and Jurassic Park were ok. Did not ride much in Epic as well. The overall vibe and atmosphere in the Epic lands was great and I was really glad we went. But not for the rides.

I really agree with your list. We still do Tower of Terror, Tianas, Seven Dwarfs, but that is about it for motion rides. Ratatoullie really made me sick and this was the 2D version.

We don't enjoy the trip less, quite the opposite. We love going to the parks and enjoying family time. We take things slower and watch the grand kids have a great time. Passing the Torch!

I think we all enjoy the family times at a Disney Park, but one doesn't need to pay over $100.00 per family person to do that. One can stay home and do that. I went for the rides with the family. Sitting on a, rare these days, park bench watching others enjoy them is not my idea of bonding. You have a lot of issues with motion sickness, and that is a different story, and if you can still enjoy that expensive time and space with family, who am I to say differently. Personally, I'd rather stay home and have been doing that for a few years now.

I get it. It is expensive. But for us very much worth it.

We go on some rides with the Grandkids, but other rides, we live vicariously through their eyes. I get that we can just stay home, but we do that already! A Disney trip is special and being able to give and share that experience is just priceless.

We also love resort hopping. It is always great to checkout the different lobbies and decor during the holidays. Our last trip we stayed at Animal Kingdom Jambo House. The Grandkids got a real kick out of doing the bead activity and talking with the CMs. Not to mention just watching the animals. In fact they decided not to do a park day and just finish their beads. Very educational and we here very happy to expose them to different cultures. For us it works, but we also know it does not work for everyone.

Believe me, I completely understand how you feel. I understand but after all these years I have to admit that I am more of a selfish bum. Even my first visit back in 1983 I was that way. My children were 6 and 9 at the time and even though I wanted them to enjoy the trip, my focus was on myself and figured that if I was having a good time along with them that they were also enjoying it. Just this last Christmas Eve I got found out that it worked. Both those little kids are adults with younun's of their own. We sat around at the table and talked for hours about that trip, just the remaining three of us. Their Mom passed away about 9 years ago. I wanted to know what the most important part of that adventure was for them. My oldest is now 52 and the other is 49 and I am the ripe old age of 77. We exchanged memories for a couple hours. Each one contributing a memory that sometimes we shared and other times we contributed to jogging our memories that happened 42 years ago.

I'll be honest I was shocked at the number of things that they both, as young as they were, remembered. Minor things like the trip, there and back to Vermont (road trip), the places we stayed in route and just how great the experience was. At the time, I knew nothing about WDW so I was experiencing that same things they were at the same time they were. I guess that is currently the vicarious living that appeals to me and also the part that made the most impact on how they do themselves as well.

I made one trip back in 2008 with my daughters and their children at the time and I have to say the feeling and theirs was nowhere near the same. I loved WDW for what it gave us as a family as well as me individually and after spending $7500.00 to foot the bill there in 2008. $11300.00 in today's money. I've been there many, many times and nothing has ever been as rewarding as having an active part in that experience. It just isn't the same for me, others mileage may vary. I want to much to be a part of it. I'm just not really excited about watching others having a good time without me.

First Sorry for losing your spouse. I dont think WDW would be nearly as appealing without mine.

I am also very surprised at what the kids and grandkids remember. Seems things that did not seem important are really huge and things I thought would be important, just aren't. I really started taking nothing for granted. Our youngest grandkid was 4 the first time we took her. When asked what she liked the most, it was the putting green at Bay Lake Tower! not the pool, not the characters, not the rides, the putting green! I think it is because I played with her for hours on it. Family memories are priceless!
