Hey Guys!!

So I know you can now use whatever photographer you want for your Disney wedding, which for us was great news because I am so picky and already had a photographer in mind based in florida that I know we wanted to use.

The problem- I know there is probably some shady areas still with using your own photographer instead of Disney or one Disney suggests on their vendor list but Disney is vague with what exactly those regulations are and it's probably because we aren't under contract yet because our date is still too far out. Could anyone please fill me in on what the regulations are? The only thing they gave up to me was something about the photographer needing insurance other then that it was a very vague answer and I've tried a few times with different calls :/

So our photographer is based in Florida but has never done a Disney wedding, she's not one of the ones you see mentioned on these boards that do a lot of Disney weddings that people prefer, she's a family friend and I just love her work and really want her to do our wedding but don't want to start paying on our account with her and then have Disney turn around with a regulation that doesn't fit her business or something. It confuses me. Any info helps!! :)

I think the photographer just needs to fill out some sort of release or insurance form, but I don't know the specifics. Do you have a planner? Or are you still in the earlier planning stages?

Yes, the photographer just has to sign a release form that you send back to your wedding planner. Not a huge deal.

One of the advantages of using a vendor who has done a Disney wedding before is that s/he will know all the ins and outs of working with the Disney planners, along with the best angles, timing for fireworks shots, etc. But speaking as someone who hired photographers who'd never done a Disney wedding before (and got great shots), I also think it gives you the advantage of a fresh take on a Disney wedding!

I have Randy Chapman for our renewal. All they need is a form from Disney signed & sent back to your planner. And if you do use an outside vender, they cannot shoot at the same time the Disney photographers do.
Since we are using an outside photographer, we used Disney's photography for a family portrait session instead, or you can use the Disney photographer for a dessert party if you choose to do that.
That way we aren't losing the service with the package. No extra charge, just has to be done during your week event.

They're pretty flexible about when you use the photography. We got married August 13th and were able to have a resort session on August 29th. When I called they said it was no problem at all.

The new contract states they can't share any of the photos they took in a blog or facebook. My photographer said that she can only share photos that don't look like Disney, which is weird. I had to share all the photos myself.

That is essentially the same policy Disneyland has for their photography for weddings. Disneyland's is still more restrictive for a wedding event/castle shoot, but it's interesting to see that WDW is embracing a similar policy.
