COSTUMES NO MORE FOR ADULTS!

because don't exactly like a character or concealed ID

Let me take a stab at it.
__ ___ ___ ___ _____ because _____ don't exactly _____ like a character or _____ _____ _____ concealed _____ ID.

It is not a costume because you don't exactly look like a character or you have not concealed your ID.

(How did I do?) ;)

So if you throw a jedi robe on over your normal clothes (t-shirt, jean shorts), would that be considered a costume??

I believe Disney said no more clothing/costumes like robes that could conceal weapons or banned items so no Jedi robes

I do find it upsetting because my husband who is about to take his final trip to Disney, can't wear a jedi robe to take a picture with his favorite Sith. What are metal detectors for? REALLY? I find this silly! and YES it is news to me. It is Disney, all about fun? What are they saving us from?

I don't find it silly at all. It's a different world now. Just because you're at Disney, that doesn't mean you are safe unless there are security measures in place.

There are mixed opinions on whether not allowing costumes makes anyone safer, or whether there are alternate ways of achieving the same level of "safety".

I suppose I can see both sides of the costume issues, but metal detectors? I have no issues with that at all.

I have no issue with metal detectors as long as they can put enough people through to be more then security theater, but without backing the lines up like crazy.

I think if security is an issue they should add and staff enough metal detectors on party nights to let people go through in costume.

Mostly I find it all silly though since all the additional security does is back people up in a nice holding area they can't escape from (the front gate area). If anyone wanted to do harm, they'd just attack that area since there's no screening prior to that bottleneck spot.

Actually when I called DVC today...it included dapper days. they called guest relations to confirm...

They probably thought you were asking if you can wear an actual costume on Dapper Days. No, you can't, but you never could, anyway. Dressing in modern vintage clothing isn't a costume, it's just having a certain style. They don't have fashion police at the gates, believe me. If they did, the parks would be a lot less crowded.

With the exception of MNSSHP, Disney has never let adults wear costumes to the parks, so I don't see why some people are getting so bent out of shape over this minor change that only effects one event.

Also, I hope people realize that the term "security theater" is a very run-down cliche.

I went to Disneyland's Halloween party in 2013. I was wearing a floor length Snow White dress sold at a chain Halloween costume store. I have long curly hair, and Im quite tall. I felt like I looked like a mom dressed as Snow White for a Halloween party. But from the second I stepped out of the car, little girls would gasp and scream "SNOW WHITE!!!" Many of them ran over to talk to me. All night long. I was so surprised. (Also a bunchhhhhh of dudes were like, "Heyyyyyy Snow White!" Eww.)
So not only did I learn that a full length skirt with a tulle underskirt is SUPER annoying to wear on and off rides or on escalators LOL I was learned that to little kids, a big skirt, the red bow headband, and red lipstick means you are in fact, that character. No one from Disney told me my outfit was inappropriate. In fact a lot of cast members asked me if Id seen my stepmother yet, or joked about apples, etc. But as a mother myself, the amount of little girls that believed I was Snow White made me uncomfortable. Just based on my experience, I completely stand behind Disney's decision to not allow adults in costumes, especially at night. If I keeps ONE KID safe from a creeper then its worth it to me.

How prevalent is the perve situation at the parks to begin with?

According to Snopes, not very. No child has ever been kidnapped from a Disney theme park. They did apparently catch a peeper in a women's bathroom awhile back, but while he's undoubtedly a perve, it's impossible to say whether he was targeting adult women or their children.

Almost all pedophiles target their own children or children who have reason to trust them. They are mums, dads, coaches, teachers and trusted family friends. It's highly unlikely you'll find one wandering a Disney theme park in a princess or Jedi costume, trying to lure strange children away. Even the rare disturbed individual who WILL try this, is more likely to just head down to the local park or mall or even just drive slowly through a quiet neighbourhood and look for an unaccompanied child. It's a lot cheaper and safer than paying for a ticket to Disney and trying something nefarious in full view of thousands of people, cast members, undercover security, and cameras.

I don't think Disney's decision to enforce their long-standing policy on adult costumes has anything to do with keeping children safe. I think it's more likely in reaction to recent attacks around the world, targeting theatres, markets, parties, concerts, and sports venues - all places people congregate and let their guard down to have fun.

I have a question regarding my costume idea, we are thinking of going to MNSSHP as Shawn & Ed from the movie "Shawn of the Dead" and one of the characters has a cricket bat, would they allow that or would it be considered a weapon?

TIA for any ideas or answers. :)

Its hard to know considering we don't know yet their rules. I've gone in with a 4/5ft broom with no issues, I have never seen someone with a bat though. Having not seen that movie, but having seen what it spoofs (Dawn of the Dead) how are you planning to do makeup? If it's going to scare guests they may turn you away due to that.

No one will know for sure until they do the parties this year. I'd say if you think it might be considered a weapon, it probably will be unless it's made of foam or something.
