Cooking frozen waffles in hotel room?

That was not very nice.

Only in that "Manifold Destiny", unless it's in reprints, is extremely expensive. The concept, the process, and the article, are entirely serious. You CAN cook using your car engine. In all seriousness, if the OP has a vehicle at Walt Disney World, probably a drive to the parks would properly heat the waffles.

Honestly, I was not trying to be mean. That cooking method IS facinating. It was my first thought, albeit totally snarky. I am astonished this was a real post for advice, I assumed it was a troll (yup, I know what that makes me )!

My garage freezer was accidently unplugged this summer and everything had begun to thaw out. Waffles were one of the things I tried to salvage but we learned they were soggy messes after refreezing and reheating. OP, I think it would be very hard to keep the waffles frozen. It's probably safer to count on something more shelf stable and have a chef prepare allergy safe waffles one or two mornings as a special treat.

Wow...didn't quite expect such ridicule. The fact is my son has lots of food allergies and while the food court can prepare things for him, this is the budget board and I was looking for some budget like responses. I was hoping someone might have a trick...like cooking oatmeal in the coffee pot for example.

Thanks to those of you who were helpful. Hope the rest of you had a good laugh at our expense.

Well i appreciate this is a budget board and your son has allergies, I would really rather have the coffee maker used for coffee (unless you mean just heating water) and not have to pay higher prices because they keep having to replace items from people using them inappropriately..If your budget is stretched so very thin..it might be better to bring foods that do not require special preparation and could be eaten cold. Your risking fire and ruining Disney property with some of your budget suggestions.....

Under WDW rules you can not use the coffee makers for making anything else besides coffee and hot dogs so oatmeal is out.

I do it all the time. But perhaps we aren't thinking of the same thing. I just use the coffee maker to boil the water (just run the coffee maker with no coffee/filter) and use it to make instant oatmeal.

WDW really has a rule that says it is okay to cookie hot dogs in the coffee maker? That is seriously gross.

I would just rather wait and go another time if I had to cook waffles in my room with an iron or hair dryer. I go on vacation not to have to cook because I do it the rest of the year. I guess to each it's own but this whole thread just seems so bizarre.

Going another time doesn't mean her son's food allergies will disappear - he has them year 'round.

Well if food allergies were such an issue I would stay some place where I had access to a kitchen so that I could accommodate my son and many times you can get that off Disney property for what you pay to stay on. I have a friend that rents a 3 bedroom house for the same price that I pay for a moderate.

Maybe she can't afford a moderate and stays value. Maybe they are flying and not renting a car, so she can't stay off-site. We don't know what her finances are like.

Which brings me back to my original point that if I had to cook waffles with a iron or hair dryer than I would just wait until I could afford to stay wher e I had the necessary means to accommodate food allergies!

We deal with a laundry list of allergies ourselves so I can understand where you're coming from. It's not even just the cost of the hot breakfast eveyr morning but rather the time it takes for the allergy meal to be cooked. Most people can walk into the food court and just have food put on a plate at a counter but when you have allergies you have to wait for the chef to come out then wait for the food to be cooked and brought out to you. For most it's a few minutes to get hot breakfast but for people with allergies it can take 20-30 minutes to get that same kind of food. That's a long time when you're trying to get to the park.

We just do cereal in the morning. Because we fly Southwest and get 8 free checked bags for our family of 4, I just pack the cereal and disposable bowls and spoons and some snacks in my luggage. I also place an order with Garden Grocer for the milks (DD12 gets soy, DD10 gets rice and DH gets lactose free) along with bottled water, fruit and snacks. If you're driving, you can bring all of this with you in a cooler. It's fast, it's easy, requires no heating and requires not having to leave the room while getting ready in the morning.

FWIW - my nephews used to eat them frozen. I personally thought it was gruesome, but they loved them and my DSIL saw it as a great time saver.

Seriously? Boil some water and make instant oatmeal.

Maddle

No no no - you BOIL the WATER in the coffee pot, then mix the water with the oatmeal in a paper bowl.

OP - besides waffles, frozen or defrosted, what else does you son eat for breakfast? Is this it?

Maddle

I would think that a supply of paper plates (one for the waffle, one to cover it) would work with the food court microwave. Since the waffle is covered, whatever has previously been cooked in the microwave shouldn't matter. The food court toaster may or may not work depending on the severity of the allergy.

Don't use wax paper for anything heated. The wax will melt off the paper and onto your waffle.

You can try them at home to see if they come out okay if they are in the fridge instead of the freezer and prepared in the microwave.

Good luck.

What ever happened to just having a bowl of cereal? Why do you need to have waffles :confused3

Hey OP I have the perfect solution, bring your own iron!
Or use the hotplate portion of the coffee maker, just cover it with tin foil. I think its rude to the next guest to use an iron to cook a food item. That is not the reason they have them in the room so for common decency's sake don't use it to do that. (And no I don't care if its covered in tin foil or anything else, if I wanted my clothes to be in something I cook with I'd do my laundry in the kitchen sink and dry them in the oven)

Basically you're saying that anybody who is on enough of a budget that they have to bring breakfast foods to their resort shouldn't take a vacation. LOTS of people have to do this. OP didn't word her original post very well and really should have asked for ideas for cheap and easy breakfasts in the room (and would have gotten lots more ideas on the disABILITIES! board) or asked for ideas for how to prepare frozen waffles rather than saying she'd use an iron (actually, with foil this might work but IMO it's more trouble than it's worth unless her child also has other issues where he's self-limitting to this specific type of frozen waffle) but that doesn't mean that she can't accomodate her child and take a budget vacation at the same time.

Nope didn't say any of that I just said I am not cooking waffles in my room with an iron or hotdogs in a coffee pot. I would rather not go on vacation if I had to resort to that. Will I give my kids fruit, cereal , and muffins for breakfast for the sake of time and because they are not big breakfast eaters you bet. I am sorry I just find going those extremes to cook a waffle somewhat bizarre.

i just wanted to pop in to say that my daughter had food allergies, and when i told the chef what they were.... dairy and eggs, he made her some amazing waffles. So I wouldnt even consider using an iron to heat up food.

And that is you, not her.

You are right I am not her but hopefully she brings her on iron because I would be really annoyed if I went to iron a piece of clothing and found food all over the iron. Just because one rents a room from Disney does not mean they have the right to damage property in the room that others will be using.
