Cooking frozen waffles in hotel room?

From a couple of the OPs previous posts, her son has food allergies. Maybe these waffles are one of the few things he can eat.

OP, there is a toaster in the food court that you can use. Although, as a previous person mentioned, you might not be able to keep your waffles frozen in the hotel fridge since the freezer compartment is so small. When we stayed at Old Key West villa once, we just took the waffles out of the box and they fit ok into the little compartment.

The only other real option is to bring a toaster (or buy one in Orlando). But I don't think using a toaster in the hotel room is allowed.

Next time I would recommend staying in one of the villas. We really enjoyed OKW and it had a microwave, fridge and toaster. I think a coffee pot too, but not sure.

I can understand dealing with a food allergy and the possible need to bring food from home to accomodate one. But using a hotel room iron or hair dryer to heat up frozen waffles? Thats just--eww! I would rather just eat them cold.

I am enjoying these answers, especially the one about the BBQ.

FWI-Toasters are allowed. We have used one in our room for years. Never had a problem.

I would buy and bring along a cheap one. The ones from WM for about $7 work fine. ;)
I can understand that - never having had a problem - but at a previous job, we had three toaster fires in four months. It's probably smartest to use a toaster in a hotel room only when/where the hotel provides it.

You are kidding! You think it will be easier to use a hair dryer :confused3 than just taking your toaster? Cereal seem like a much easier option.

Yep, just buy a cheap two slice toaster and pack in your suitcase. My mom and I had toast and waffles many a morning in motel rooms on vacation.

I always bring a bag of charcoal with me and make a barbeque pit in the bathtub. You can not only make burgers for dinner, you can also reheat food during the day.

Just remember to pack a fire extinguisher!

You are my hero~~ I would have never thought of that:worship::worship:

Someone should make a post of all the different ways to cook food in hotel rooms

How about using a curling iron? It is a great way to heat up a cold cup of coffee too!! Actually, I think a flat iorn might work better for the waffles.:rotfl2:

Wow...didn't quite expect such ridicule. The fact is my son has lots of food allergies and while the food court can prepare things for him, this is the budget board and I was looking for some budget like responses. I was hoping someone might have a trick...like cooking oatmeal in the coffee pot for example.

Thanks to those of you who were helpful. Hope the rest of you had a good laugh at our expense.

Our grocery store sells, fresh waffles with the syrup baked in. You are not required to warm them up. My son loves them and takes them to school for his kindergarten snack.

Now, I want to add....I am ROTFLMAO :rotfl2:

Just want to say that I completely symphatize with your family having allergies. We have those too.

Having said that, I would like to caution you regarding bringing high heat appliances into your hotel room. I think there have been many heated posts (pun not intended :) ) regarding this issue in another board.

Good luck with your trip and don't forget to notify the dining places you go to about your family's limitations. Disney is very good with that.

Have a wonderful trip!

An iron and wax paper?? If someone genuinely was questioning that as a possible way to prepare waffles, I personally would be concerned about the welfare of any children in the home.

Waffles typically are NOT an allergy friendly food, and I'd be willing to bet there are 100 other options you could prepare in your room that would not involve a hair dryer or iron. But, seriously? This must be a joke.

The use of the toaster in the food court is free. Just FYI.

Well, I wasn't one who ridiculed but was "cautious". You see, you didn't give a lot of information in your original post (allergies, etc.) and often on these boards someone who posts a "question" like yours is a troll or just someone trying to get a "rise" out of the rest of us. You must admit, asking about using an iron to cook food, while not unheard of, has all the makings of someone who is trying to "pull one" on the rest of us. Also, the fact that you are a new poster sends up a HUGE red flag to the rest of us!

I hope you did receive some helpful information like my idea of going to Babycakes for some of your treats.

My suggestion would be to take something like Cliff or Luna bars, or whatever brand will work with your son's allergies. We frequently take them since they are such a quick and easy breakfast option - and depending on where you get them, they can be budget friendly. I have also found the Disney bakeries to be very good with allergies, and I'm sure you could talk to them about the products that would be safe for your son. If you take some ziplocks, the baked goods can last for several days in your room and would be another convenient breakfast option. I would recommend against using the appliances in the hotel room for things other than their intended purposes, especially when you have so many other options.

I have to admit, troll popped right into my mind. OP, WDW is a haven for those with food allergies! My sister's ds is highly allergic to wheat, peanuts, eggs, and bananas. They have booklets about what is safe to eat at CS restaurants, and someone will come and talk to you about what to make for him at TS restaurants. My dd is gluten free, and it can be a PITA, but it wouldn't occur to me to try and heat up frozen food in a hotel room.

The fact that this person signed up for an account in April of 2008 is all I need to assure me that this is a fake!

Has little to do with it--if anything that adds legitimacy to the poster...even a couple of years ago she was asking a lot of allergy related questions about her 2008 trip.

Nope. Not a troll. Just looking for some info. I've gotten lots of great ideas from these boards for my past trips to Disney and was hoping for some others. I haven't posted a lot, but I've found plenty of answers to plenty of questions on here.

My son is allergic to dairy, eggs, all nuts, sesame, and fish. It is difficult to find things he can eat and things he likes. We just found Van's frozen waffles in the store and he loves them. I was hoping to bring his favorite breakfast along, but we will try something else.

Thanks for your advice...sorry if I sent up any red flags. I wasn't trying to pull a fast one on anyone. I was just looking for some creative ideas.

Not sure if you are staying in a Value or what but if you are at Mod or higher than you will have use of a coffee machine. You can use that to heat up water for the instant oatmeal IF your child can eat that.

Are you on the dining plan?? If so than why not use a snack credit to get something for breakfast?? That could very well help some of your dilema. If you do plan to use the coffee pot (if you have one in the room) than I would seriously recommend requesting they switch it out with a new one due to the allergies. Did you request VIP cleaning for your room for your child?? If not that would be another request that you should make ASAP.

Have fun on your trip and please, if you have not already done so, make sure your child with the food allergies has either a medic alert bracelet or some other way identifying that he has food allergies. I ask this after almost feeding my friend's daughter shell fish without realizing her allergies to such. I am so thankful that she remembered and that my son did not throw his trash away for once. I am buying this little girl a medic alert bracelet for that and her asthma as a gift so I can keep her safe.

When my son was younger he was on a very limited diet so we always rented condos or vacation homes because they have kitchens. We rarely stayed in hotels due to the limitations and we went down 3 to 6 times a year.
