Construction: Set Your Expectations

There has been many a debate on this board about if you should take this year off because of the massive construction.

My family had the opportunity to travel down for a 1-day precruise visit to MK/EPCOT – I also made a quick trip to DTD to pick up magicbands to have them set up BEFORE we went to the parks. (We were staying off site with special tickets)

DTD:

First – Everything my podcast friends have said about the state of DTD is true. Even with the opening of the parking deck… The whole place is in flux. Even more so than pre-parking deck visit of December 2013. I made the mistake of parking in the parking deck to get to the shopping. Literally was over 2 miles of walking according to my fitbit to get to the Magicband Store.

The glimpses of Disney Springs that I saw on the way were amazing… However – the pre-spring break crowds still were overwhelming everything. I wound up taking the boat back across the lake, but that lets off at Cirque… so it was still a big haul back to the deck.

EPCOT:

We spent most of our time in future world that morning. No construction issues to deal with… The SOARIN’ expansion is being done completely behind the scenes and had no impact. However – Future World is starting to show its age. Having a baby we spent a lot of time around the Odyssey Center, and it is just sad. There were lots of nice flowers and gardens to try and distract me, but the dead neon in the windows reminded me of a closed down 1980s shopping mall. However, outside of that… the park does shine as a distinct theme park destination… It really is a two day park. We didn’t even get to touch World Showcase… so no Norway updates! Sorry…

Magic Kingdom:

I knew the crane was going to be there… and I knew the partners statue was covered. However – I barely noticed both of those things. I WAS surprised to see the storefronts completely covered on main street… and the same thing with storefronts in Adventureland. Now – Disney is the BEST at covering construction. However – if you come prepared with the knowledge of what is under construction… It helps you to ignore it better and focus on the glorious new areas. (First time getting to see SDMT and the complete new fantasy land)

Hope this photo helps, and enjoy the ride! You are at Disney!construction.jpg
