Considering canceling August trip following FL handling of Trayvon Martin murder.

Oh please! First off, there have been many, many things over the years that could very easily keep you out of the state of FL, many of which have included the Sanford PD. Just because they haven't been all over the national news doesn't mean the state has been all pixie dust and Mickey bars. Second, NY is perfect and never has any controversies, cover-ups, mishandled or misguided situations? :lmao:

Your money, your decision but it seems like an odd choice when you consider bad things happen all over the world. And trust me, considering the influx of tourists at the moment, we really won't notice one missing family from NY.

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read. Seriously. :sad2:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I think this was just a post done to get attention- no one could be serious about this! :confused3

I understand your premise but really, the only one that will be hurt by that decision is you:hug:

Thanks.

I hear you ... i have a trip planned also and am thinking it over. The stand your ground law needs to be changed...
There is another case in florida where a Vet was murdered in front of his 8 year old daughter and the shooter is using the syg defense....

it is a license to kill..IMO

It is insane. And I can't shake the feeling that I am complicit if I continue to bring out of state dollars, remaining willing to travel to a state whose laws are so out of sync with public safety or reality; a state that sunnily allows its police force to act in the egregious manner we've just seen with the Martin murder.

OP, only you can decide what is the right decision for you.

Don't let anyone belittle your thoughts or choice.

Thanks.

Why not go out to Disneyland instead? The lead time for restaurant adrs and the like is far shorter than it is at WDW. And the new Carsland will be open. It's a great trip.

Thank you. That's actually what I spent last night researching. The flight will be twice as much from NY, and the trip itself seems a bit more expensive too, but I think it will be worth it. I'm looking into fewer days than I typically spend at Disney, coupled with some other torurist attractions nearby.

I understand the OP's feelings. One way we vote is with our dollars. I will never again spend any tourist dollars in South Carolina because of an experience my family had there with a very nasty state trooper. I'm not sure I could give up Disney World and Universal Florida though!

I'm bummed about it, let me tell you! My kids will be too, though my older one (9yo) will definitely understand/support the reasoning.

Perfect idea! I can't recall a single racist or controversial thing that has ever happened in the state of California!
:rotfl:

This comment is almost as silly as the OP.
Not Really

So you really think one person cancelling their vacation is going to cost people their jobs? Really? I seriously doubt that anyone will even notice her absence.
No one person doesnt make a difference except to the server maybe who then had her table who may not have it filled. See Jennasis's response below.

One person? No. But if a large enough section of people felt and acted the same way of course it would have an impact. I thought that's what the poster was trying to say.

Thanks for interpreting:thumbsup2

Thanks.

As much as I love DL, you cant be serious to think that CA has not had its share of problems as well, you can support that???? And are you planning on moving bc I am sure NY has plenty of its own issues.

Thanks.

.

So are you complicit in NY's mishandling of crimes and corruption because you spend your dollars there?

No judgement from me. If you feel as strongly as you do, all you can do I guess is follow your heart.

If you live in a state you can work towards a change with your vote etc. If you live out of state you can let them know you think a law needs to be changed by choosing not to do business there....

it is very simple really and has been done before...

Sorry to be so ignorant, but how is the rule of law enforced in the USA? Am I right in thinking that there are "blanket" laws that cover all States and local State laws that apply only to said individual States?

Did what I said even make a shred of sense?!

I dont think I would be traveling too many places if I adopted that policy.

And once again she was willing to give her tourist dollars to CA, so she is ok with all the laws on their books, has she thoroughly researched those.:confused3

Changing laws has nothing to do with being complicit in a crime. She didn't say she felt helpless that she couldn't change a law, she said she would be complicit in the crime. That's why I asked if she was also complicit in NY crimes.

You must have some insider information to have come to such a drastic decision. All I've heard is what the hysteria prone media has reported and with Sharpton in the mix who can believe any of it?

Makes total sense. To be a little simplistic, the US tends to have three kinds of law: federal, state, and local. Federal laws are the same throughout the country; state laws are the same throughout the individual state; and local laws apply only to one town or county.

In America, a lot of the legislation and governance are done on a state level. (This is one of the big political sources of controversy in American politics: generally speaking, Republicans think more governance should be at the state level; Democrats tend to want more governance at a federal level. It's a debate that's been happening since the very beginning of America--even before our Constitution was ratified.)

What this means, in practice, is that much of America is more like a patchwork of laws than most countries. Things that are legal in New York might be illegal in Florida, and vice versa. Some states allow gay marriage; others do not. Some states allow legalized marijuana; others do not. Some states have strict gun control laws; others do not. And even things like definition of murder vs manslaughter, for example, can vary from state to state.

Hope that helps!

California? Of course you will be supporting a population who voted in favor of Proposition 8. Tsk Tsk.

That is her choice... we make choices like that every day.

Other recent issues have people doing the same...
the Rush Limbaugh sponsor boycott... the Susan G. Komen incident...

for example I try to buy American made products... do I practice this every single day with every single product.... no... does that make me a hypocrite.. perhaps hurting one company and not another... probably...

Certainly is HER choice but it seems like one made in a vacuum. You truly should not boycott something or a state unless you have done significant research on this issue...that seems shortsighted.

And once again I think it is shortsighted to hurt those people in Orlando over this issue. The whole thing has not even gone to court yet. We do not even have all the facts yet. It is tragic that a young man died but maybe wait until all the details are in and this has gone to trial.

And it is HER choice but she put her choice on a public forum, which then invites different opinions and maybe even facts (like other states have misguided laws on the books too), so she can ultimately do what she feels is right but once she put it out there we are also allowed to point out the descrepancies and inconsistencies with that opinion!

Indeed it helps! The USA has such a rich heritage. She may not be the oldest country in the world, but by jingo is she the most interesting!
