Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Oh, I read it. It was pretty scary stuff which is why I waited until AFTER it was over to show DH!! :lmao:

Now, we were Huckabee people so we weren't as happy with McCain but we did like Sarah.
We weren't thrilled when McCain was picked, either. Not really sure anyone here was. He's too much of a RINO. :rotfl:
I would rather have had him as POTUS, though, than the liar we're about to get.

YEP, but we LOVE Sarah. In fact, I told DH I'd even consider going with him should he ever be stationed in Alaska just because of her....as beautiful as I'm sure it really is up there...I'm not much of a cold weather person, but at least we'd be in a state where there is a good voice of reason and common sense at the helm.

I'm praying for him. I can't understand how he can claim to be Christian and the FIRST thing he wants to do is pass FOCA!! :scared1:

You'd be welcome here anytime! :goodvibes

We're hoping for a Huckabee/Palin ticket in 4 years. We even said that when we went to the Villages to see him! That'll bring some God back into government!!! :woohoo:

Huckabee's show seems to be taking off rather well on Fox so I wouldn't count on him making another run for the White House anytime soon. He is a rather likeable guy :) His show is pretty funny, though he needs to find a new singer for his house band.

I wouldn't mind seeing Duncan Hunter make another attempt at running either.

He's a great guy, with a good sense of humor AND a strong foundation in Biblical principles. Hey, Fred Thompson ran after being on Law and Order-why couldn't Mike run after being on Fox!

Fred Thompson. Shooting guns, punching hippies. :rotfl: And Sarah, of course.
She could be Pres, FRED! could be VP. Spend all his time punching hippies and strangling communists.

Ok guys, I'm just a heathen Lutheran, and my religion is very private. I just don't feel the desire to really discuss it, and I know that I'm not a model Christian. This might not be a popular opinion, but I don't want a preacher in the top spot. I want a leader who respects people's different beliefs. I don't mind one who has a faith of their own, but I am a believer in free will. Let people choose their own path, but I don't think the government should try to influence it's citizens in one direction over another. Sorry, but I have a bit of a rebellious nature.;)

Where oh where was Fred's personality through his entire campaign??? He (like Bob Dole) is a really funny guy, but never showed that side of him until he was out of the race.

If Sarah Palin ever wins the Presidency, I'd have to giggle, but I could SO see her mounting one her caribou conquests on the wall of the oval office:rotfl: that would make those PETA people ever so happy. It would totally make my day.

I want a President who "answers to a higher authority" than the ACLU and the NEA and who thinks about the morality of the laws that he signs. That's all I'm really looking for. I think we're going to see very clearly what happens when people who don't put God first run this country in the next 4 years.

Since I posted my own issue the other night with the new road treatment plan in our community (http://www.yournorwin.com/norwinstar/article/north-huntingdon-alter-road-salt-use) I thought I should update. We had another snowfall last night! It's beautiful - really, but my husband was working when the snow came so he was one of the people "inconvenienced" by the snow. He could not get home, so he ultimately ditched the car and walked a few remaining miles to our house. He did what he does best, and with help from me, we crafted a letter to our township officials responsible for the new road treatment plan. Not that it will do anything...but at least we've said our piece.

Anyone care to guess which lines are mine?;)

You might want to add a line about emergency vehicles. As a paramedic, I would not appreciate a politician putting my life at risk simply because they don't want to pay for proper maintenance on the roadways. I have to respond to where ever the 911 caller requests me to. I don't get to choose wait 2-12 hours until the roads are passable. What about other emergency workers - police, firefighters - who also have to use those roads during evening and overnight hours. If your town was in my response district I would be outraged.

OMG, I was taking a drink of my pop when I read this and I nearly choked on it, I laughed so hard. That's great!

I wouldn't mind having a preacher if he kept freedom of religion. I know very few pastors (read: one, maybe two, but they're jerks anyway) who would take away someone's freewill when it comes to spirituality. If God gave us freewill who are we to take it away? I think most pastors, including Huckabee, gets that. :goodvibes

That's not true...I'm a model Christian...my artist friend had me pose for her wire statue. ;)

no kidding...did they forget about the police, fire, hospitals, etc. that are open 24/7 and their workers? That puts pretty much every civil servant in the town at an even greater and unnecessary risk. Wait till a lawsuit rolls in when some ambulance with a patient ends up in a ditch because of their "plan".

:thumbsup2

I know that someday we will get to meet our first baby and my child(ren) will get to meet their sibling.
For right now, I just know that she's better off than I've ever been.

 to you Tink. I lost my first, too. Thirteen years ago. It broke my heart. I went into a pretty bad depression for about a year afterward. She was supposed to born in late December, 1995. I think of her every Christmas. :sad1:

I don't think Huckabee or anyone else is going to change the First Amendment, and I don't think it would work anyway. Some people are just so dead said against Christianity that it wouldn't matter if it was made the law-they'd go to jail rather than accept it.

Well maybe I am a rare conservative bird, but I believe that people who don't subscribe to a particular religion, and athiests as well, are also moral people. You can't force people to have faith, but it doesn't mean that their lives aren't positive and constructive. They are just different, and it isn't my place to judge their relationship with God. Now I understand the concern about laws which go against some aspects of people's faith, but in the end if we each live our lives according to what we believe is right, then I think that's the best we can do. There will be those inclined to witness and spread the word, but that should be the work of individuals and not in association with the government. If the government ever tried to impose restrictions on people expressing their religious views, then I would have a problem with that.
