Ok...I am from the deep south...no president's week here. When exactly is this 'president's week' holiday? Some post the 2/18-2/25 and others have posted 2/24-3/4...which is it? :confused3

Lincoln's Birthday is celebrated on February 13. Presidents' Day is celebrated on February 20. Most schools are only closed for Presidents' Day.

In Massachusetts, schools are closed the entire week of 2/20/06. :)

Its closed that week for February vacation. They just plan it with presidents day so its not one day off one week and then 5 the next.

Most schools here in Detroit are closed the week of 2/20 also. It is called "mid-winter break". Expect bigger crowds in addition to Daytona the weekend of 2/26.

turnlisa - I don't get it! Isn't the Daytona 500 on February 19, 2006?

In New England, it's always the week that George Washington's birthday falls on. George and I share a birthday - February 22. :teeth: So Feb 20th is correct, at least around here.

To add to the confusion, and crowds, Mardi Gras is Tuesday Feb 28, so crowds will be bigger that week, and the weekend before...

True, for most Mich. public schools. I'm in Ann Arbor and we follow University of Mich schedule and this year they (and us) are off the following week. I'll be at WDW 2/27-3/6.

Well my grandson is off the week of 2/20 and my daughter's college break is the week of 2/27 - so we're splitting the difference and will be there 2/23 - 2/28/06.

So - we'll have to deal with the President's week/mid-winterbreak/daytona 500/mardi gras crowds????? :scared1:

It can't be worse than the last week of June or the 3rd week of July can it? :scratchin

But I don't care - we're going to Disney

I have been during MG before and other than DTD at night we did not think crowds were a problem. Also ESPN Weekend March 3-5.

:hug:Thanks for all the info. We've been lots during Mardi Gras week and I never felt the crowds were bad at all. However after seeing all the posts about Presidents week..I was getting WORRIED  Now I am thinking we might miss alot of the major president crowd because we'll be there the following weekend and the beginning of March. Well at least I am tryin to be optimistic :sunny: Still love Disney at this time of the year.

Last time we were at WDW which was 2004, we went the week following Pres. Week. We arrived the Sun. after Pres. Day. That year MG was that same week, like this year will be. Sounds like we will be there same time! :cool2: Have you looked at this link before, it helps with crowd predictions, touringplans.com/BestDays.htm

Michigan here and we'll be there too. I'm getting worried on how crowded its going to be. We've been there for MG and its never been busy.

I live in the "deep south" as you called it and we are off the week of the 18=25.

You're right. Daytona is 2/19. Was going off information giving to me by a friend. Thanks for the correction!

We, me (DH,DS,DD and our new little DS) will be there MG week. We have gone this time in the past and crowds have been pretty good. We are hoping at least that the weather will be warm. Last time we want in '04 it was cold most of the week. The kids did not get a chance to go swimming. Can't wait to go.

Didn't mean to offend. :sad2: .....I figured no one would know Houma, LA and to me...it is the 'deep south'...I live 40 miles give or take from the Gulf of Mexico. Just was trying to figure out this President's week thing, since we don't celebrate it here. We do Mardi Gras vacation. :jester:
Thanks for the info everyone! :wave2:
