I was wondering if anybody has been to Vero recently and knows whether the beach has washed out like it did last year at this time (you had to jump from the last step on the pier to the sand)? I know there have been some recent storms-just wondering how Vero Beach held up.
[The beach was fully restored by spring this year]
thanks

My parents are there right now.

My Mom said, "There's NO beach." I assumed she's just spoiled with our west coast (FL) beaches, coupled with high tide, but maybe not...

I sent a camera with her - I'll check it out when she gets back!

We'll be there next weekend - I'll report in!

Thanks for the information! I'd appreicate it if you'd let me know how it is when she gets back. Of course, we are going anyway-it was pretty interesting last year to see the storm damage all up and down the coast-but I'd love to know ahead of time what we are in for. Thanks again.

"There's NO beach."
It's never been very wide. But then, how wide do you need it when it is never very crowded, huge shorelines to walk along where you run into very few people, and there's plenty of room for chairs and sandcastles. It's not Hilton Head wide (few are). But, it's great to stop down at the beach stairs on your way to or from dinner to look out at the waves at evening or night. There's a nice bench you can sit on, and listen to the waves crash for a little while. Sometimes there are tons of stars out and maybe lights from a passing boat. I like the Vero advantage of being able to drop by the beach now and then, even when your not doing the big go to the beach thing. I also like looking at the condominuim complexes along the beach. And then there are the turrtle nests here and there. It's a wonderful relaxing place.

VB is not a large beach, especially during high tide. The ramp access does not always line up perfectly with the beach, and was roped off a couple of the days we were there (this Sept).

BUT...just because it is not a large beach does not mean it was 'destroyed or damaged'. The beach was completely functional, and we were able to do everything we wanted.

I appreciate all the comments that have been made so far. Vero is one of my favorite places-it is one of our home resorts! We take a personal interest in it-and felt like we knew the 'neighbors' last year who experienced so much dock damage. It is like being an owner there-the beach is not like a typical hotel beach but more like a private beach. And we have seen it in every season-each season is unique as well.

CLC,

I visited with my parents over the weekend - they had a great time at Vero!

First thing my Mother told me about the beach was, "I was wrong, it was it better shape than the last time we were there."

Gee - "Thanks, Mom." Now that I've already told everybody about your "first" comment. Oh well....

The tide must have been in when she saw it the first time.

I dropped off her film last night - I'll try to post some pics later this week. But if she didn't get any good shots, we'll be getting over there Sunday afternoon, and I'll make sure I take some pics, then.

We were there 2 weeks ago today and the beach was fine. It was as wide as I have ever seen it and it was really plesant.

Thanks Beth and Sumessefui for your information! Of course, I'd always love to see pictures if it isn't a burden to post them. We are going over election day-our trip is coming up fast!

CLC,
Sorry but I never take pictures when I go on vacation. I used to, but I just throw them in a drawer never to be seen again, and half of the time I never take the camera with me. It was a shame because we stayed in a beach cottage and it would have yielded some great pictures. The moon over the ocean from the deck would have been a fantastic one. Oh well, maybe someday.
