Coming to you Live from Disney World!-Take 2 AUG/SEPT WINNERS ANNOUNCED

One more update from our Disneyland reporter, Ellen (podsnel), to post from Thursday and then we will move on to yesterday's updates.

A pic of the fruit plates in the display case...

Ellen said, "We are staying at GCV [Grand Californian Villas] using our DVC points and the resort is beyond amazing! Anyway, here is what we had for breakfast this am from WS- California Breakfast Burrito - scrambled eggs, diced tomato, Cheddar cheese, bacon and red bliss potatoes. $6.99"

"DELICIOUS!!!"

Last in yesterday were a couple of updates from the West Coast Disney park, where Ellen (podsnel) arrived on Wednesday.

"I had a Carthay Martini, (Hendricks Gin) served with a spherical ice cube. What makes this cube so special is that there is no air in the block of ice that they begin with - it is placed into the metal mold (which is not powered by anything) and the metal melts away at the block until Voila! A perfect and amazing sphere of ice that melts very, very slowly in your drink. This was developed in China by a scotch producer, and should be seen more in the future elsewhere- but for now, it's pretty special at 1901, just like everything else in the bar is."

"Isn't it amazing?????? And those olives were insane!! Blue cheese truffle olives- crazy delicious!"

Oh my, how cute are those ice....balls.

Oh wow some wonderful updates, I especially love the look of Em's Red Snapper at Monsieur Paul and yay for free champagne yet again Brenda ;)

Onto the 1901 Lounge - wow what a treat to be able to enjoy a meal there :)

Our First Update of the Day yesterday was sent to us by Gin0818.

Gin and Jill were at Animal Kingdom on Thursday morning and had breakfast at...

Tusker House

"Jill's plates..."

"She had sausage, fruit, and tater tots."

"Two donuts, one for each of us and a chocolate pastry."

My plate...

"Starting at the top: potatoes, ham and cheese frittata, potato and leek frittata, veggie quiche, and scrambled eggs with salsa."

"The food was good. I especially liked the potato and leek frittata and the service was also good but the character interaction was the worst we have had so far. They were so rushed, except for Goofy who was great."

Then Gin and Jill park hopped over to Epcot to have dinner at Mexico's...

"I was really looking forward to this but about 10 minutes in I started feeling ill. It was not the food at all, I think it was the combination of the heat and not eating since breakfast."

First the chips and salsa...

"I started with the Tostadas de Tinga (chicken tostadas)...

"These were delicious and spicier than I thought they would be, they also could have been a meal by themselves."

"Jill started with a fruit cup..."

"Then she had the chicken tacos..."

"They must have been good because she ate them up."

"I had the Pollo a las Rajas..."

"At this point my stomach was really feeling bad so all I ate was the grilled chicken, which did help settle my stomach. So the chicken part was perfect, but I can't comment on the rest of the dish." :guilty:

"It was a good meal and we will definitely give it another try." :thumbsup2

One more update from Gin, this one a snack update from France's...

She said, "To finish out our night, after some autograph collecting we stopped for ice cream."

"We had 2 single scoops, Jill had chocolate..."

"And I had mint chocolate chip..."

"Both were awesome."

Next in yesterday was this update from Jeanette (JintyB).

She said, Breakfast yesterday [Thursday] was at..

1900 Park Fare

"We were pushed for time due to a Pirates League booking and waited 25 minutes to be seated. :( Thankfully, when we explained this to our server he helped ensure we saw all the characters and brought the check promptly." :thumbsup2

"Anyway, due to this slight stress, we kept forgetting to take photos!" :guilty:

"I did have the lobster hollandaise which was good."

Cinnamon roll

"French toast, bacon, Mickey waffle, and banana."

"It is so loud in here though! If I had to choose, I'd pick the Cape May breakfast over this."

"Although that would mean missing the Mad Hatter."
;)

Then Ginamarie sent us this update from the pool bar at AKL - Kidani Village...

MAJI

Banana Cabana - Cruzan Mango rum, Coruba Coconut rum, Creme de Banana, orange and pineapple juices with a float of grenadine.

Kona Longboard Ale

Hot Dog Meal

Kids Grilled Cheese Meal

"Great way to relax by the pool." :thumbsup2

Brenda & Em were at Epcot on Thursday and had lunch at Japan's...

Brenda said, "Lunch yesterday [Thursday] was Teppan Edo, which apparentely is Japanese for "arrive at the restaurant soaked from rain." ;) This was the 3rd time this happened!" :scared:

"They offer a few lunch specials:"

"Our teppan chef was great!"

"Oops! Cut his head off." ;)

"Em ordered the veggie option..."

"They asked if she was a vegetarian, which would have altered the prep of her food."

"I had the chicken and shrimp, which I always adore!"

"The teppan chef added extra sesame seeds to my serving for some reason." :confused3

"Em had the chocolate ginger cake, which did not disappoint!"

"Other dessert options:"

"We love this place and will keep it at the top of our rotation for future trips." :thumbsup2

Now let's start the dinner updates sent to us on Wednesday, beginning with one from DonaldDoleWhip.

Grand Floridian Cafe

He said, "Dinner on Monday was at the Grand Floridian Cafe. I had two appetizers as my meal - the seasonal salad and shrimp cocktail."

http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/barbj85/media/barbj85002/null-1820.jpg.html

"The seasonal salad was very good - I enjoyed the heirloom tomatoes, bitter greens, and sweet fig-balsamic vinaigrette. (The blue cheese on top ended up going to my mom.)"

"I also liked the shrimp cocktail. It was topped with a creamy verde sauce that tasted like tarragon, and I enjoyed the tomato and avocado underneath."

http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/barbj85/media/barbj85002/null-1682.jpg.html

"My mom had the same two dishes as I did, but she wasn't happy with the shrimp cocktail. The abundance of tomatoes made it feel similar to the seasonal salad (which wasn't clear from the menu description). She would've preferred a more traditional take on the dish, with actual cocktail sauce and more shrimp (there were only 3)."

"My dessert was the chocolate fondue. The chocolate itself tasted like chocolate and orange, which I really enjoyed with the fruit. This was a simple and enjoyable finish to the meal."

http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/barbj85/media/barbj85002/null-668.jpg.html

"Overall, I thought the food here was solid, but my mom was less pleased."

"To make matters worse, the service here was laughably bad. Dishes were coming out at the wrong time (or not at all). In fact, our second plates came out while we were still working on our appetizers. Cutlery was removed from the table and not replaced. Our server was "invisible until the bill arrived" (as my mom described it), and it took forever to clear our plates and bring us dessert menus. Once it was time to pay, our server was practically rushing us out, but we'd already sat there for over 2 hours (without even lingering over drinks). Definitely the worst service we've had at a restaurant in recent memory."

"On the bright side, at least we had great company!"

(Photo credit goes to Brenda - she snapped this and sent it to me since I'm sending in the final piece of this review.)

"It was so nice sharing this meal with Brenda, Emmy, Vicki, and Andrew. I had a great time here, but service didn't have anything to do with it." ;)

Another poor service review from GFC really has me rethinking our ADR here for December... Especially with a 2 year old that probably won't want to sit still! I think I'm going to have to cancel. Maybe 1900 Park Fare would be the better choice. I definitely want to go back to GF for the Christmas decorations.

We are going on saturday night.

We will be there both nights!

Keep an eye out for us!

Keep in mind that three of these poor service reviews posted here on the live thread were regarding the same meal, as DDW, emmysmommy, and GoofySon'sMom had dinner together. ;)

Next in yesterday was this update from Ginamarie.

She and her group had dinner last night at the Polynesian's...

"I finally had a Lapu Lapu for the first time..."

"This drink is huge and strong. I think I will be sleeping well tonight." ;)

Now for the food...

"Pot stickers and sesame wings - so yummy, as usual! Those pot stickers are so crisp on the outside and soft within."

"Noodle and vegetables - the noodles were a little on the soft side, but good, especially with some added peanut sauce."

"Bread pudding - awesome."

Next we have Mary7116's update from their lunch yesterday at DHS'...

"We've eaten here in the past and the food is always good, not great. However I always have to dine here when I'm at DHS, the decor cannot be beat."

First a menu pic...

"I had the fried chicken and it was perfect. Crispy, and not greasy."

"DH had the vegetable lasagna and really liked it."

"DS had the chicken pot pie. He liked the flakey crust but not crazy about the chicken soup, not very flavorful."

"DS had kids mac & cheese, typical kids meal."

"DS had the vanilla milkshake which was the best thing on the menu. So creamy and yummy. Sorry I didn't get a picture." :guilty:

"Dessert was decadent brownie sundae:"

"DH enjoyed the sugar free cheesecake minus the strawberries and whipped cream."

"We enjoyed 50's Primetime and loved the atmosphere. The fried chicken was so good. I'd return here just for that."

Our last updates from yesterday were from Brenda (emmysmommy) and included some very disappointing news for fans of
the Avocado Margarita :sad1:

On Thursday, Brenda & Em had dinner at Epcot's...

Let's begin with this menu pic...

Hmm...notice anything missing???

Brenda said, "I was sooo disappointed to hear that the avocado margarita is no longer available. They are changing the drink menu and our server said it wasn't even available in the tequila bar." :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

"So I ordered a strawberry margarita instead."

Here's the rest of the menu photos...

"We were started with chips & salsas..."

"Em had the grilled pork rib eye, which was a thick slab of pork. It was served with black beans and rice."

"I ordered the gorditas, which are corn cakes with chorizo. This was very tasty!"

"I also ordered the appetizer trio of tacos..."

"There was one each of beef, chicken, and pork. I liked them all but the pork was especially great!"

"For dessert, Em chose the apple empanada..."

"I would have had a bite but I was distracted by the view of Illuminations outside our window."

And Brenda ended with this teaser...

"Next up, lunch from today [Friday] with a touch of magic!" :wizard:

I almos had my rehearsal dinner at Ariel's for our vow renewal, it's beautiful in there!! Was trying to keep with the under the sea theme since reception was at living seas back room but we ended up having to post pone everything for awhile... Hopefully one day tho.

We're pricing out a Disney wedding right now (and shockingly, it's coming up to be cheaper to get married at Disney than at home in Tampa) and I want Ariel's for our rehearsal dinner so much. I'm pretty sure it's the 8 year old in me who's fighting for it, but luckily my df just goes along for the ride. I was pretty much set on a DFTW after I found out the only way to eat at Ariel's was to have a wedding there.
