We are going on saturday night.
Another Swan & Dolphin F&W goer!! Again need to meet up! Which night will you be there?
Last in yesterday were a couple of updates from the West Coast Disney park, where Ellen (podsnel) arrived on Wednesday.
"I had a Carthay Martini, (Hendricks Gin) served with a spherical ice cube. What makes this cube so special is that there is no air in the block of ice that they begin with - it is placed into the metal mold (which is not powered by anything) and the metal melts away at the block until Voila! A perfect and amazing sphere of ice that melts very, very slowly in your drink. This was developed in China by a scotch producer, and should be seen more in the future elsewhere- but for now, it's pretty special at 1901, just like everything else in the bar is."
"Isn't it amazing?????? And those olives were insane!! Blue cheese truffle olives- crazy delicious!"

Now let's start the dinner updates sent to us on Wednesday, beginning with one from DonaldDoleWhip.
Grand Floridian Cafe
He said, "Dinner on Monday was at the Grand Floridian Cafe. I had two appetizers as my meal - the seasonal salad and shrimp cocktail."

"The seasonal salad was very good - I enjoyed the heirloom tomatoes, bitter greens, and sweet fig-balsamic vinaigrette. (The blue cheese on top ended up going to my mom.)"
"I also liked the shrimp cocktail. It was topped with a creamy verde sauce that tasted like tarragon, and I enjoyed the tomato and avocado underneath."

"My mom had the same two dishes as I did, but she wasn't happy with the shrimp cocktail. The abundance of tomatoes made it feel similar to the seasonal salad (which wasn't clear from the menu description). She would've preferred a more traditional take on the dish, with actual cocktail sauce and more shrimp (there were only 3)."
"My dessert was the chocolate fondue. The chocolate itself tasted like chocolate and orange, which I really enjoyed with the fruit. This was a simple and enjoyable finish to the meal."

"Overall, I thought the food here was solid, but my mom was less pleased."
"To make matters worse, the service here was laughably bad. Dishes were coming out at the wrong time (or not at all). In fact, our second plates came out while we were still working on our appetizers. Cutlery was removed from the table and not replaced. Our server was "invisible until the bill arrived" (as my mom described it), and it took forever to clear our plates and bring us dessert menus. Once it was time to pay, our server was practically rushing us out, but we'd already sat there for over 2 hours (without even lingering over drinks). Definitely the worst service we've had at a restaurant in recent memory."
"On the bright side, at least we had great company!"

(Photo credit goes to Brenda - she snapped this and sent it to me since I'm sending in the final piece of this review.)
"It was so nice sharing this meal with Brenda, Emmy, Vicki, and Andrew. I had a great time here, but service didn't have anything to do with it."

We are going on saturday night.
Another poor service review from GFC really has me rethinking our ADR here for December... Especially with a 2 year old that probably won't want to sit still! I think I'm going to have to cancel. Maybe 1900 Park Fare would be the better choice. I definitely want to go back to GF for the Christmas decorations.
I almos had my rehearsal dinner at Ariel's for our vow renewal, it's beautiful in there!! Was trying to keep with the under the sea theme since reception was at living seas back room but we ended up having to post pone everything for awhile... Hopefully one day tho.
We're pricing out a Disney wedding right now (and shockingly, it's coming up to be cheaper to get married at Disney than at home in Tampa) and I want Ariel's for our rehearsal dinner so much. I'm pretty sure it's the 8 year old in me who's fighting for it, but luckily my df just goes along for the ride. I was pretty much set on a DFTW after I found out the only way to eat at Ariel's was to have a wedding there.
