Coming from NY. This is horrible

Actually I was very clear that NYC had zero deaths. Not the whole state. (At least I thought I was clear. :upsidedow ) On some of our charts, the government likes to separate out the city from the rest of the state too, as NYC has a different set of factors that are different from the rest of the state.

We are well aware that deaths are a lagging indicator. Statewide, our infection rate is down to about 1.3%. We've had several days of days at only between 5-11 deaths. (I actually hadn't gone back as far as the 11 deaths.) Again, we had ZERO deaths on Saturday. WE NEW YORKERS are celebrating this milestone whether others agree or not.
You were very clear. Along the way it got changed to NY and I made the mistake of referring to it that way myself. I just wanted to make sure everybody was clear.

But where to? I just read an article about a Dutch woman with a US fiance, she can't go to him, he can't go to her. He can go to Mexico, but she can't go there... Luckily Aruba allows both US and Dutch citizens. As I understood it, they are going to isolate in a private home for 2 weeks and then each flies home again. And then isolate here.
Yes this a part I was thinking about. With a lot of places having restrictions, which you can't really blame them for doing so, it leaves people between a rock and a hard place even if there's a big understanding why it's this way or that way. The situation you gave is a really good example to me on that. They are lucky they can isolate both ways for that time period. I can only imagine the people who can't and are separated so far apart :(

Me. I had the coveted AP Preview Day, plus park passes and DVC reservations. I am sitting here on my couch in NY because of both the FL and NY quarantines, which would amount to 28 days of quarantine for a 5 day trip. I have also completely cancelled our July family trip because of the 2 week quarantine as well as an August trip (that was rescheduled from May...) because I can't quarantine for 2 weeks with the uncertainty of if/when/how school is going to start. I have many friends who have cancelled trips to OBX, Delaware, FL, etc because of the quarantine. Many, many people have cancelled trips this summer because of the NY quarantine - I'm not sure if you're doubting that with your question or just curious...
Oh I was just curious more like what have people changed their plans to, if anything was really different from their previous plans. Some people on my social media (mostly Facebook but Twitter too) mentioned doing small trips that they would have never given a thought to doing since much of their vacation planning used to be about bigger grander plans.

I'm sorry to hear about your trips especially the one because it was already in the works back in spring and had to be rescheduled and all that went into the planning :(

Are you trying to salvage some sort of break away from your home?

Fun fact: I mentioned above that we've been planning to get married in New Orleans in November - we just got back from a short trip down there on Saturday for wedding-related errands (the kind you can't do remotely) and on our flight home they gave us a NYS Health questionnaire to fill out. Dropped them in a box at the security checkpoint on the way out. It's only been 2 days so no one's called us or checked in but we're fully prepped to spend all 14 days inside our apartment. Knowing we had to quarantine when we got back before we left gave us time to prepare and stock up on groceries, paper goods, etc. We're both lucky that we can WFH (in fact neither of our offices are opening until after Labor Day at least) and I know not everyone has that option. So, it didn't change our travel plans, we just had to prepare for it.
Well that's good to hear you were able to still keep that trip :) And I'm sorry I missed it..I came a bit late into this thread that's my fault..but congrats on the upcoming wedding  I think being prepared is a good thing to keep in mind. I feel like many of us could say we'll avoid social situations til a quarantine is up if we're able to work from home but food and other such supplies is a different story since you're supposed to be staying in so I think it's good you mentioned that.

Thank you! As an overanxious overplanner I am very good at being prepared :)

BTW, did you know when were were at the height of the apex, back in April, and were in desperate need of ventilators, that Gov. Newsom loaned NY 500 state-owned ventilators, even though some counties in CA gave him some flack for it, saying they were low on ventilators and why was he sending them away? He said you guys were fine for the moment, while we needed it. By the time you needed them, we'd be over the worst and able to send them back. :grouphug:

As a NYer, I thank you guys in CA for that. :flower3:

Thank you. I did see that. And I guess that's why this constant dumping on other states, mostly from New Yorkers (ok, I'll say a handful of NYers) is so disheartening to me. I know you can't make a state take help and it appears FL doesn't want any, but I want to see us come together and help each other. Root for each other when things go well. And not pile on when things don't.

I have not seen that attitude from you at all to be clear. But even today there was another poster congratulating themselves (NY) while saying the other 30+ states don't believe in science and that isn't fair. Nor is it accurate. (Newsom just announced more rollbacks for CA) .This country is divided enough. I don't know why some posters seem to find joy in the failings of other states. Every state (and country) has made good decisions and they've made terrible ones. This isn't a game that anybody gets to win or declare victory on.

Some people don't believe in putting pineapple on pizza either and those people are wrong.

I don't know if anybody else watches it, but Lenox Hill on Netflix just released a special episode filmed during the beginning the pandemic. I really recommend watching it.

I agree. We need to stop pinning states vs states and pointing fingers. We are the UNITED States. Let’s work together!

But I agree with others, Americans should be halting nonessential travel. I’m young and healthy, I would statistically be fine if I got it. But I’m trying not to contribute to the problem, trying not to spread it around.
AMEN

Might it be referencing his stories about his daughter's boyfriend? And how he dealt with the situation?

I think it does which makes it even more absurd that it is on a poster depicting how our State handled the virus. Of course the whole poster is absurd though. I can't believe it is actually for real and I would love to see the people who would actually purchase it.

The NY Gov sometimes adds in some personal comments during his news briefings. They usually are very funny. His daughters are staying with him at the Gov's mansion for the duration of the Coronavirus. One of them brought her boyfriend for a few weeks, at the beginning. This is him talking about the boyfriend for the first time and giving advice to other fathers. :lmao:

Another time, after this one, when a reporter asked how they all were doing, he said how he likes the boyfriend, but mentioned (rather gleefully) their dog doesn't. :rotfl:

This isn't a "state" poster. The Gov made it very clear that this poster is HIS personal opinion and viewpoint of going through this Coronavirus time. The mountain as the background, is his own personal metaphor of how he felt it was watching the numbers climbing and climbing, not knowing where or when the top was, how long the plateau was or what the terrain would be on the other side, etc. Other people may think of this time differently. Some only see the numbers. Some see a crowded cemetary at the top of the mountain as that's when they lost a loved one, etc. So, he could have added on the spaghetti & meatballs dinner if he wanted or other personal imagery.

Everyone is free to like the poster or not. NYers always have opinions one way or another. :) :upsidedow Which is probably why he made it personal, than trying to figure out one that everyone will like. There's no such thing. We're NYers. Fuhhgeddaboutit! The funds to pay for a poster only pay for the poster. They don't benefit NYS in any way. I personally think they could have added on a few dollars and put it toward some Coronavirus fund of some kind. But, maybe not enough people will get the poster to make it worthwhile. I don't need a reminder of this time. :(

:rotfl: That actually makes the poster and the fact that it was made and for sale even worse IMO.
Governor Cuomo making a poster all about him. Not surprising in the least, and I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will buy it and display it to show their undying devotion to their great leader.
The rest of us NYers will just laugh at it.
