coconut water?

I bought a bottle at Walmart...I think it was coconut/mango....It was the nastiest thing I have ever tasted! No one in my family liked it. Glad I only paid $1 for it, and it went straight in the trash after the taste test:scared1:

The main benefit of coconut water is the potassium. Quite frankly, I'd much rather eat a banana than drink coconut water!

It is gross. If you are thinking it will taste like coconut-flavored water...WRONG. It just tastes funky.

The only people who really drink it are health nuts who drink it after exercise (it's better after a workout than gatorade and no sugar). People who follow the "paleo" diet are really into coconut water because they aren't supposed to have sugar.

I will admit, it is an acquired taste, but one that my family finds refreshing when ice cold. Also, my banana-hating ballerina drinks it after dance.

We buy Naked or Zico brand.

Maybe most people were expecting a sweeter taste? I would say it is like water with a coconut essence.

Ick! I bought a 12-pack at Costco. There are still 10 left and I bought them 6 months ago! I was expecting a coconut taste but I'm not getting any. I can't describe it but it just has a funky taste to it. I wish I would have just bought one bottle at a convenience store first!! Then I could have saved my money!
costco does have money back garentee take it back and they should refund your money.

That's exactly why I bought it! I thought the potassium would be easier to intake than a banana but I'll stick with bananas!

Ugh! I hadn't thought of that! Unfortunately I no longer have the receipt. Lesson learned! Thanks!

I remember buying a bottle years ago, naively thinking coconut water must be the light-version of coconut milk...I was so wrong! Lol! It wasn't horrible, but not really my thing, and I have an odd, granola-hippie kinda palate, lol.

I am one of the most unpicky eaters I know and I think it is gross. I tried it three different times with different brands and flavors, and I just don't get it. It's like salty water. My children agree, and won't touch it either.

I believe they can look up with just your membership number

Yes they can. I never bring my reciepts when I return things to Costco. They just look it up on your membership. I have not tried coconut water but I heard it's not as healthy as it's been all hiped up to be. It's better just to drink water.

I am not a "health nut", but I am about 80% paleo, and it's not that people who follow this way of eating "aren't supposed to have sugar", we try to avoid processed foods. I am sure I still get plenty of sugar through fruits and some vegetables (and I feel AMAZING and have been losing weight).

Coconut water is, however, an acquired taste. It has a different texture than water. I think in the same way beer is :P It is much, much, MUCH better for you than Gatorade -- paleo or not! It is better ice cold than even slightly warm, and my favorite is the mango peach or Zico makes a chocolate one that I think tastes like Yoohoo and is to die for. I don't prefer it over ice but I know some people who do. YMMV.

I am in no way picky and I love to try new things. I bought coconut water and I will never but it again. :crazy2: (that is the face I made when I tasted it)

If you are looking for a post-workout replacement, try a banana and chocolate milk. That is what my team's trainer recommends.

Now that's what I'm talkin bout. DH is 5'8" and 270#, he LOVES Vita coco plain coconut water and it helps him maintain his abs. :rotfl: I buy it for him at Wal-mart and there is always some on the shelf. I stay away from the stuff--but I could do a banana and chocolate milk. I will have to ask him what he likes about it after reading this thread.

Unless someone is a hardcore athlete training for a marathon or the Olympics, they don't need extra electrolytes after a workout. They can get what little bit that needs to be replaced by drinking good old water. The push for extra electrolytes is an advertising myth.

It's bad, bad, bad and doesn't really live up to all the hype about being rich in electrolytes. If you're just doing a regular workout that isn't really necessary. Marathoners need to replace them not someone doing an 90 minute gym workout.

disagree........i am no where near an athelete..........47 year old mom of 3 who walks about 1 - 2miles a day slowly........ended up in Er low potassium..........docs were going to do the painful ivs till i convinced them to try a script first...................so i tried tons of coconut waters and found I luv the Zico and like the vita coco...........dont like any of the others I have tried...........it keeps my potassium up and i drink 1 daily the plain variety..........my whole family kids and husband luv the Zico choclate coconut water....i dislike it tastes like watery chocolate to me ....so go figure

I tried it once. Tropical flavored. Blergh!!! Even my DD who is incredibly un-picky & into healthy stuff hated it.
If I can find the chocolate I might try it but otherwise, no thanks.

I tried the Goya cans. They weren't bad and had little chunks of coconut in it if you like that sort of thing. Still too many calories for me, though....

I'm sorry for your medical issues but there's no way walking 1-2 miles a day would cause low potassium. Something else must have been going on. Glad you have it under control. Coconut water is a great source.
