My descendants came from here. The family name I am looking for is Tiffin. Our family came over to Canada in and around 1840. I've done a search, but can't find any specifics on this location.
We know about all the family that came here, but we are looking for the ones that stayed behind. I've gone on to Ancestory.co.uk and .com. Just wondered if any of you could help me. I've done google searches as well for Cockermouth and Cumberland.
Can anyone help?

Not any help really but I grew up in Carlisle (about 35 miles away) in the 1960s and had a teacher called Miss Tiffin. It's not a common name in the UK so it might be local to Cumberland (which is now called Cumbria). Having said that I don't remember coming across any other Tiffins. There is a magazine called Cumbria Life which might put a small ad in for you.

I had a quick look and there is one Tiffin in Cockermouth. If you want to carry out some family history research - a good site is www.familysearch.org. Allternatively, try www.genesconnected.co.uk

Following on from maxine if you cannot get the gene reconnected site up you can do it via www.friendsreunited.co.uk and click on the link for genes reunited. I have just typed in Tiffin and there are 234 names recorded
