Clueless guest comments at WDW

LOL! This is just too funny!

Luckily I was smart enough to help both my DA/DU's out by either buying them a WDW guide book or at least telling them usefull info about the parks.

I too bought Buirnham (?) books whether or not I was going to Disney World. :)

Ya know, we all have our moments where we might say or do something that others would find ridiculous. We just have to sit back and laugh at ourselves. I know I do! :) Keep the stories coming, they're great!

When the Pirate's of the Caribbean movie came out, my Aunt and Uncle had no idea that there was a ride of the same name. This alone I can understand, except their family went with us to WDW in the late 80s/early 90s, and their family had gone multiple other times as well.

We, too, have our own name for Spaceship Earth. My dh used to call it "Spaceship Mother Earth", so now it has stuck. We said something about it on our recent trip to WDW and, with thread's like this in mind, I though to myself "I wonder how many people just heard me say that and thought I was a dumb tourist" lol

Here's one that just bugs me. I'm planning a trip for December. I'll be traveling with my son, a friend and her son. My son and I have been to WDW once before, but are DL veterans. My friend has been to MK once for one day, and her son has never been.

Anyway, any time she talks about the trip she calls it our Disneyland trip. I've tried to politely correct her, its Disneyworld not Disneyland. Her comment is just, you know what I mean.

Oh and then she asks "Are we going to visit any of the other parks, or just Disneyland?"

I promise you, she will be a Disneyphile after I'm done with her.

More than once, I've been asked if I work there.

Yep, here I am in my shorts and t-shirt. No name badge. Holding two leashes with two little kids on the end (or a stroller). With a big ole camera around my neck. Don't all Disney employees look just like tourists?

Haven't they noticed the clean, costumed, themed, badged cast members?

Okay, had to add my story.

While waiting for the 3 o'clock parade to start, they had the visiting marching band and stage coach come by. The lady next to us gathers her family together and they start to walk off. She says as they leave, "I remember the parade used to be a lot longer than that." I should have stopped her but I was too busy holding my laugh in. My husband didn't get it, bless his heart.

For the most part, when I said those characters were not part of Disney, they accepted the facts. However, occasionally they were just convinced that I was stupid. In those cases, I sent them to Adventureland hoping Brer Rabbit would pass for Bugs Bunny!

I will never cease to be amazed by the number of WDW visitors who clearly have done absolutely nothing to prepare for their trips
Many people like to live on the edge and not have everything structured.

Even those of us who prepare are prone to 'moments'. :D On our honeymoon we stayed at Poly. It took until near the end of the week for us to realize we could walk to the TTC faster than the monorail could take us!

I think it's kind of neat when we find the "magic" of discovery, especially at WDW when we've been many, many times!!

My three favorites:

The endless comments of: "I won't pay extra for fastpass"

While waiting to ride TOT in DCA last Sunday I heard a dad say to his daughters: "don't be scared this is a simulator like Star Tours, it doesn't really move". DH and I knew better than to look at each other. Needless to say the daughters were very surprised when the doors opened and they were high above the ground! I mean come on do you not notice the doors opening and the screaming as you walk up to the ride?

My friend informed me that their favorite park at WDW was Sea World. I explain that Sea World is not a Disney park. Oh yes it is because Free Willy is a Disney Movie and its got the Shamu Whale in it.

Gosh, this might sound pretty stupid, but when TOT first opened, I was convinced (by the TV commercials) that it was virtual reality. I am terrified of fast, high, or drops....I truly did not get it until I was in the seat. I did think that it sure did not look like virtual reality when I saw the elevator open, but that was the first time I'd ever gone on something I would not usually try and did not know there was a chicken elevator out. I went on the ride and was sick for 3 days..literally.

Goes to show that even the most savvy WDW guest (and I'd been going since 1981, could have written the first Birnbaum book!)
Felt pretty stupid, but it can happen sometimes!!
::yes:: :eek:
p.s. I did not notice the doors opening as we approached and thought the screams were part of the "virtual experience"!

We love it when we tell people we've been on the Disney Cruise Line and they say, yes, they've been on the Big Red Boat too!! :scratchin :duck:

I can see that being an honest mistake since before their was a DCL The Big Red boat did have have a little bit of Disney. I remember being on the cruise right after my 5 b-day and I had a tea party with the Disney characters on board. It wasn't until DCL actually caame out that I realized TBRB wasn't Disney owned even though my mom had always told me that.

Well this isn't my story, it belongs to a friend of mine, but she is a lurker not a poster so I'll try to get it right.

They were in Asia looking at the tigers when a parent explained to their child that the tigers were the mommies and the daddies were the lions over in Africa.................................

ok... i think wld takes top honors for their story... That has got to be the silliest thing I have ever heard. That's not just a lack of WDW knowledge... that's a lack of all knowledge!!! lol
It was a good laugh, thanks!!!

My clueless guest comment is from a disney message board.

Someone posted about CBR and said how much they enjoyed seeing the MK fireworks from the hotel!!

When I politely informed her that she had see the Epcot fireworks she said "well Fireworks are fireworks"......

T&B, that is so funny! We went to DC this summer, and every time my kids saw the Washington Monument, they called it the Giant Pencil. They know what its called, but they giggle and call it the Giant Pencil anyway. :teeth:

LOL This made me giggle. I grew up in Maryland, just outside of D.C. As a child, I always called it the Giant Pencil, and still do! Now whenever we drive across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, my girls always look for "The Giant Pencil"! LOL ;)

I would also like to add that one of my pet peeves is when people call the Magic Kingdom 'Disney World'. I try to be nice and explain that Magic Kingdom is one of many places in Disney World, but it's still like nails on a chalk board.

Now see, I'm one of those people who will refer to MK as Disney World... see for me, The Magic Kingdom is Disney World! Afterall, when I went to Disney as a child, that's all that was there... it was Disney World. Some habits are just hard to break!

Guest 1: What lot were we in?
Guest 2: Spiderman
Your stupid people remarks are funny. Though, about this one. For some reason, my DH and I always quote The Simpsons when it comes to the which parking lot we're in. We always say, regardless where we are, "Remember kids, we're in the Itchy Lot." Stupid, yes. But I needed to say it.
