Clueless guest comments at WDW

I am also one of those who will tell people things when I heard they are trying to do some thing that they have no clue about what they are doing. My DH has no problem with it, but my kids do. I get the rolliong of the eyes and :MOM" and I know what they mean. I try to explain them they have me, and when they need to know something I get "THE PHONE CALL" most of these people don't know anything. They are just on vacation. No Info at all. I really have meet some really nice people this way.

My brother and his wife are on their way to WDW at this very moment. They have two boys, ages 7 and 5. It's their first trip to WDW. We were all together Sunday night (two days ago) and brother's wife comes up and asks me what they should do while they are there. They have done absolutely no planning! I tried to offer some suggestions and things to do, but I am sure it was lost on her. So, take pity on them if you see them there, as I am sure they'll be making many of the clueless statements you are reading here.

to hear these things. I wasn't always a big planner, but I can at least read a park guide map, geesh!

I was talking to a student of mine and she mentioned that on her last trip they "had one of those fast pass things". She assumed it was because she was on a school trip that she had them. People still think that - and it's better for those of us who know how to use them, more FP's for us!

I have been a Cast Member for over 4 years, I have heard hundreds of stupid questions and comments. Now, I know a lot of people think there is no such thing as a stupid question... but...
Guest: What time is the 3 o'clock parade?
Cast: It's at 3

Upon looking at the Walt & Mickey statue in front of MK Castle
Guest 1: Who's that?
Guest 2: I dunno, maybe he owns the park or something.

Upon checking into All-Star Movies
Guest: I want a castle view room
or
Guest: Where does the monorail board here?
or
Guest: I want a room Walt Disney has stayed in.
Yes, lots of people come ask where they can meet Walt. I never know how to say that he's been dead for over 35 years, he's technically never even been to Walt Disney World

Looking for their car in the MK parking lot
Guest 1: What lot were we in?
Guest 2: Spiderman

And yes, lots of people think their park hoppers are good for every single Central Florida attraction, and EVERYTHING is in walking distance.

Just a thought, but if you couldn't find a ride or anything else for that matter, wouldn't it be easier to ask someone who works there?

I guess they didn't see any of those (cast members) either!!!

I'm sorry, I don't mean to make fun of anyone but, I would think that if I was new to WDW and was under the impression that they only had 2 rides in the MK, I would certainly have to question the popularity of the place, I mean come on!!!

I guess it does take all kinds to make the world go round!

I feel sorry for some people though!!!

I don't feel sorry for people who are clueless about WDW at all! They are spending thousands of dollars and can't even spend a half an hour doing some research. There are SO many resources availiable online and in books, there's really no excuse to be clueless. Gosh, when I was going to WDW when I was ten years old I even went out and bought a Birnbaums' book!! :) :)

Ilovestitch,

I did the same thing when I was 12!

These are just hilarious!!!! I am almost on the floor.

I know it can be difficult. When people I know ask me about their upcoming trips to Disney World (of course they know I am a big fan) I think I may overwhelm them but hay, there is so much to do and it does take a bit of planning.

Of course I know I grate some peoples nerves when I call Spaceship Earth the Big Ball. Its just because when my little brother was 3 he wanted so bad to ride in "the big ball" but always fell asleep, so it is a family thing that just kind of stuck and my mom always calls it that when she is talking to the grandkids :)

I personally like the people who are clueless. If everyone did their homework like all of us, all the good restaurants and fast passes would be gone.

Nothing makes me laugh more than walking past people who will wait in line for Space Mtn for more than an hour when they could have had a fast pass and walked right on.

My family and I travel to WDW during the busy times of the year (kids and school) and we never have any problem riding what we want and eating where we want because we spend a little time researching (plus having been there more than 20 times helps).

My favorite "stupid" story was (I'm sorry to say) a very good friend of ours.

Phone call to me working the evening shift.

Friend "Where is this English Pub you keep talking about?"
Me "Did you walk around the world?"
Friend "Yes and we didn't see any English Pub"
Me "If you walked around the world, you walked right past it. Which direction did you walk?"
Friend "We saw Mexico first"
Me "When you passed France and walked over the bridge you would have walked right past it on the right when you came to the bottom of the bridge in England"
Friend "We didn't see any country called England"
Me "did you see Canada?"
Friend "Yes"
Me "Great Britain is between France and Canada".
Friend "Great Britain is where the English pub is?"
Me "Yes England is part of Great Britain"

We still laugh when we we wonder what kind of geography they teach at the schools he attended!

I am rolling reading all of these things! I don't think I could help myself from laughing if I was standing there listening to these conversations!

Oh I've heard many, but my fav is when people say "I'm going to Disney and then we'll do Epcot." Yes they are talking about MK, but it just gets on my last nerve.

This cracks me up! I think we have all have heard it but it really is one of those things that makes me laugh everytime. :hyper: I think it is so funny when people tell me that they stayed 'in' Epcot but also went to Disney World. I know they are just trying to say that they stayed at one of the Epcot resorts and also visited the Magic Kingdom but I just don't understand how they come up with this! *sigh*

I was in Home Depot one day looking for Disney stuff for my Disney room. I asked on of the employees if they had anymore new stuff when she started talking about her daughter had went to Disney and did not care for it.
First re action. hair stood up on my neck then how can anyone not like WDW. then she proceeded to tell me how it costs to much money and I proceeded to explain about all of things you can see, do for the cost. Then she said her daughter had gotten a front of a line passes because she was booked into the All stars movie hotel. i proceeded to tell her there are no front of the line passes just given out because you stay in a hotel on property. She argured with me that her daugther had one several. When I keep questioning her it was a fastpass. I tried my darnest to explain this to her and she would not listen, so I shut my mouth and walked away and I stay clear of her everytime I go there.

I can unerstand a couple of these and am even guilty of referring to the MK as DisneyWorld once in a while (even though I'm a DIS addict and "know better"). You see, I grew up (and still live) in southern CA. My family moved here 4 years after Disneyland opened and it was practically a second home for most of my childhood. Until recently, when DCA opened, Disneyland was Disneyland. DisneyWorld's MK is so similar to Disneyland that it just always comes out DisneyWorld when I'm referring to it. My family knows what I mean so what does it matter what someone over hearing me thinks?

Also, at Disneyland, there are a lot of things outside the park that are within easy walking distance. We quite often walk outside, cross the street, and eat lunch at Denny's (much cheaper!). So if someone was used to Disneyland and had never been to DW I could see how they might think that they could just walk to something off-site.

We were on Kilimanjaro Safaris and a women seated behind us said " WOW they make the animals look so REAL!"

I almost peeded in my pants laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One time at Studios EE, DW and I were heading towards the Queue. We noticed a mom and dad + kids, one of which was too small. The mom was looking very sad and starting to walk away with "junior". I called out and said "Do you want to ride? I know how you can do it" and waved her over so as we queued up. The two families stayed together through the ride and I explained the baby swap, the chicken exits and the chuck bubba relay. They had done the usual first-time at WDW staying on proerty thing of planning on going to all the EE parks. Really no other plan. I was able to give them a few other pointers. They were very nice, and the wife looked SO relieved. It was their first day at WDW. THeir kids had heard of RNRC and TOT and wanted to do those first thing, so I was able to help save a whole vacation. :)

All it cost me was about 20 spots in line as people passed while we started the conversation.

This is some funny crazy stuff!!:rotfl:
I hope I hear some stuff like this when we go in December!

I don't know whether to call this for better or for worse, but when people come up to a bystander such as me and use incorrect terms as "front of the line pass" or "big ball" I will use the same words in my reply!

I will try to sneak in the correct words, but more important try to keep the conversation smooth. Or rather, if they just make a comment using incorrect terms but don't ask a question, I don't even talk about that subject.

Front of the line pass for staying at All Stars? Wish I could get one.

I am an occasional tour guide at a museum with exhibits in buildings spaced out about the grounds and also outdoors. I haven't heard it myself but other tour guides have said guests come into the gift shop and ask "where is the museum?"

The museum features trolley cars. Other tour guides wear insignia of their favorite transit system such as BART, SEPTA, MTA, etc. I often wear a Disney Guest of Honor badge. People have asked me "do you work at Disney World?". I say "Not yet".

Museum management asks tour guides to walk guests over to a place they are interested in rather than point in the direction. Since Disney CM's are required to stay in a particular area, this does not work too well at WDW.

While we were there in October, I heard several people react in surprise to the fact that It's a Small World was closed. One time, while we were getting our stroller after riding Peter Pan (so the stroller was in front of ITASW), a woman was walking around the boarded up entrance asking "How do I get on this ride?" Never mind the big sign that said the ride was closed. We told her that it was closed and she, honestly, was shocked. I still chuckle.

A coworker told me about her recent Disney trip. While we didn't get into the details about what they did each day, what she probably paid for the trip just blew me away.

She and her children decided at the last minute to go to Orlando with her husband for a business trip.

The first thing they did was go on Priceline and got a hotel in the general Orlando area.

They drove down so transportation was not an issue.

Once they arrived, they stayed one night in the priceline hotel, and went to Magic Kingdom the next day. If you've ever driven to MK, you know as you leave, you see the big sign that says "Resort Rooms Available, call 407-WDisney" Well they did that.

They then blew off the rest of their Priceline stay and booked a concierge room at Animal Kingdom Lodge!!

Not sure what type of park tickets they purchased. I would imagine it was either Length of Stay or One-Day tickets.

Can anyone imagine how much all that cost???!!!!!!!

Some friends of ours took their children to WDW last Christmas, it was their first time there. We suggested they make priority seatings as early as possible and offered many tips for dealing with WDW during the holidays, but they wanted to "wing it" once they got there. Needless to say, when they returned, all they did was complain about the crowds in the parks and how they couldn't get into any of the restaurants for dinner. They also missed most of the major attractions. I suspect many "first-timers" go to WDW without a plan and end up with a bad impression because of their lack of preparation.
