Clueless guest comments at WDW

Oh my god, I almost forgot. My DH I have this on tape when we went to WDW. We were watching (DH was video taping Illuminations), and throughout the tape you could hear on tape of this woman and this kid having a converstation during the show. When the World comes out, spins, and shows pictures of people around the world, here was the converstation:

Kid: Is that the world?
Woman: Yes.
Kid: Is that the real world?
Woman: Yea, it's like a real world.
Kid: Is that a fake world?

Then you hear on the tape my DH being sarcastic, under his breath, "Is that a fake world?!"

i just finished having a very pricey dinner and wine nite at AKL jiko...so im outside having a butt.....this rude woman walks by me and says........"my god, so much for designated smoking areas" under her breath but loud enough for me to hear.........................
as im standing next to a very large hard to miss ashtray!!
I'm a smoker as well. I didn't smoke when I was at the parks. If someone is going to be rude of the fact that I'm smoking away from non-smokers so they don't complain, then I will make a remark. I would have remarked that non-smoker such as herself clearly can't see well since I'm smoking next to an ashtray.

When I'm smoking away from the door and near an ashtray and someone walks by me and does that rude *cough* by, I turn around and say, "I smoke and I don't cough like that. You might want to do something about that naggy cough because it's clearly a problem." They just usually sheepishly walk away or they just roll their eyes and walk away.

This one's kind of funny - DH and I heard one teenage boy tell another that his dad asked Ariel if he put his ear up to her shells, would he hear the ocean?

Since everyone got a kick out of my co-worker only riding two rides while at the Magic Kingdom on her five-day trip to WDW, here's another classic quote from her about the trip:

"Yeah, we rode that safari jeep thing at the Animal Kingdom. Well, when we came to that old rickety bridge, I was really scared. Does it do that all of the time?

When I answered that it did and that was just a part of the "ride", she then said, "Oh wow! I thought it was really broken... you know because of all those hurricanes!?"

Dear Lord, this woman is not only clueless, but gullible as well!

That reminds me of someone that posted here that was on their honeymoon going on the ride and they thought that the baby elephant was really kidnapped and the bride was crying on the ride the entire time while everyone else on in the car was laughing, and after the ride was over the CM that was driving the car finally laughed his @ss off.

This was from a friend who flew to Orlando this year. He told me about the family who was sitting beside him on the plane. They told him they were staying on-site at Disney and their park tickets would get them at the front of the line on all of the rides. They even pulled out their tickets and showed them to him. Since he had not been to Disney before, he was impressed. I told him they were either staying at one of the Universal hotels, or they were going to be highly disappointed when they got to Disney.

Well, I just went to wdw last month, and I know I heard lots of things that I remember just chuckling about, mostly conversations I overheard from the stalls in the restrooms.... can't remember all of them except a couple...
On Kilamanjaro Safari a son and father sat in front of me, they kept remarking about how real the animals looked especially the crocks, I didn't say a word, dh and I just looked at each other and smiled, dmil and daunt, both first timers looked at me and said I thought all the animals were supposed to be real, they sure did do a good job....I did correct them though.

Something else I heard a lot, I wonder how much extra it costs to get a fast-pass??? I will admit though, I think people get confused about this because I believe at Six Flags they do charge for something similar to this and the front of the line thing because of what hotel you are staying at is from Universal, they do offer that.

The last part actually came from dh's aunt, she asked me when we were going to do the spiderman ride, her dh had visited Orlando the year before and they went to Univ. and Mk only, I told her it was at Univ. She still questioned me.

I think there is just so much to do in Orlando that people who aren't Disneyholics like us just sort of must group it all together simply because they just don't care. I personally plan and plan and plan and over plan and super plan no matter where we go, I believe if you are going to take the time and spend the money to go on vacation then you at least need to know what you are going to do when you get there. Just My .02!!

While standing in the DUMBO line last weekend I over heard a dad telling the mom, "let's go see what the lines are like over in FANTASYLAND". this was right after he said "our fastpasses are for 5-6pm, we don't have time to stand here, we will miss our turn" it was about 4:45 and there was a 30 min wait. We were almost halfway through the line by that time.

some of these are great! I don't recall many stupid comments on our last trip but I do remember...

The line for Splash was huge so DH, DS and I got fast passes
we came back later and walked right on the ride (front seat of the "boat" no less). After the ride we walked by the entrance of splash again and noticed that the fast pass machine said the return time for current fp's was 5 minutes from now (it was currently 5:50pm and return time was 5:55, weird!) so dh, ds and I got another fp for each of us, took a quick trip to the restroom then planned on going back to do splash again. For some reason we decided to skip it and get dinner instead so we walked back to the line which was still long and tried to give our fp's away to another group of 2 or 3 and no one would take them!! I tried giving them to atleast 5 different people and everyone looked at me like I was trying to hand them a vial of cocaine or something. DH finally said forget it, just throw them away but instead I just layed them on top of the garbage can nearest the entrance of splash hoping someone would come along and get a surprise.

I was also irked by the amount of people who know nothing about fast passes and that got angry when we would walk through and get right on the rides when they waited for a long time in the regular line.

I've been reading the posts and still don't really know if next week (11-15), the crowds hopefully won't be bad. I know it can't be predicted, but....:(

My sister and I have tried planning our trip and it seems we kept seeing SUMMER info. We're trying to be ready for anything and not be as stressed as my niece thinks we are.

We don't want to be the ones saying dumb things - even though we have tried reading everything here and know to get FPs, guides from the parks, etc.

Any last minute advice for us? Thanks! We love this site!

PLEASE HELP!

My last minute advice.

Get a guidebook

Check off the attractions you want to see - we use a rating system - A must make time to do!, B - will make time to do C - we will do it if convienent. Limit yourself to choosing two or three As in a day, four or five Bs, and as many Cs as you want.

Figure out where all your A and B (and maybe C) attractions are on the map. Know which ones are Fastpass. If the line is over half an hour for your A's, grab a Fastpass and come back later. Once you have ridden your As, use the same system for your Bs.

You can do this with the brochure you pick up for each park if you haven't invested in a guidebook.

Know there are four main parks and it usually takes half an hour to travel between them.

If you don't have PS for sit down restaurants, and want to eat sit down, be flexible and try to eat a late lunch or early dinner.

Don't sleep in.

It's impossible to sometimes not say dumb things. Like people on this thread have related, sometimes we have our pet names for things and a stranger might think that we are clueless (if they heard me call Spaceship Earth the big golf ball they might not realize that I do know the right name...).

Of course many people really don't do any research and are more prone to clueless comments. Don't worry about saying something stupid--maybe you'll give someone else a chuckle! ;)

My husband talked to the husband of friends that went last week. They were staying offsite somewhere, but told my husband that they were staying onsite somewhere, but he had no idea where, but that he's sure that Linda (me) has stayed there before. LOL Everyone know that I'm a Disney/Universal fanatic. :teeth:

Have a great time and know that your research will pay off--not so you won't say dumb things, but so you'll get the most enjoyment possible out of your trip!

My family and I are taking our first trip to Disney in Feb, and I am having a blast researching and planning. I have bought 5 books, and I have spent tons of time on these boards, getting great tips about everything! I think it's great that some people don't get as involved in the planning, because it must make things more efficient for those of us that do. A friend of my husband's tried to talk us out of going, because he recently took his family of 4 for the first time. He said it cost him over $10,000.00, and one of his kids is only 8 months old.

First of all - "dumb" is in the eye of the beholder, right? (Although this thread IS hilarious....tiger + lion = tiger, hey, wait a minute...they never taught us that in vet school...) Don't worry about it! Just have a great time - the only dumb thing you could do would be to worry about it too much, dontcha think?

DH and I leave tomorrow - we'll be there until the 17th - see you there! Have a fantastic time!

I actually looked like a clueless person one trip.

I have been many times and hardly EVER get a guide map anymore. (If I'm planning on seeing shows, I've already looked it up on Steve Soars site and have the times programmed into my cell phone)

I was waiting at rope drop one morning in 2000 and overheard someone say you could get a second FP two hours after your first one.

I turned around and told them that was incorrect and you had to wait until your time on the first FP started before getting a second one.

She then showed me her park map where it CLEARLY said you can get one right after you ride or two hours later, whichever comes first!

They had just changed the programming and since I hadn't read that here or bothered to get a park map, I was the idiot!!!

My goodness! He must have paid full price and stayed in a concierge room!! WOW! Or stayed a very long time??

I hope your Feb vacation and first time at WDW will be everything you've dreamed of while planning! I'll look forward to reading a trip report!

You'll do great!!!

This reminds me of my bil and sil who went last August! They stayed at the Contemporary. Would they listen to anything I offered? Of course not...they'll just wing it! Her Mom and Step-Dad were going also, supposedly staying at CBR.

When they got home, they of course complained about the heat, the crowds, the long lines, etc, and how FAR they had to go to get to her Mom's hotel. All the way out to the highway and everything!! I tried to find out where they were going, and tried to tell them that if she really was at CBR, there was no need to go back on I-4, but they insisted that was her hotel, and that they HAD to get on I-4 to get there. I finally gave up....

Like most of you, I am always amazed at how clueless some people are, and then how much they dislike WDW because they failed to do any research.

We're taking a friend of DD's next time, who is so excited to be going. She told me last week--I am so happy about going with people who go so often, they don't need to use a map".

I'm going to my 1st MVMCP and Mousefest . I know I'll be asking some dumb questions to other ppl. They aren't dumb to me. Thats how I learn.

I can't be afraid that someone will laugh at me, or make fun of me, or post it on board. I don't like be new at something, but it's the only way I've found to experience new things, ask questions.

As a teacher, the students ask many questions that an experienced person would think are dumb. But the students are learning. This is all new to them.

So if you are there in early Dec, and an 55 yr old woman asks you a dumb question, have a heart. I'm still learning, hopefully forever.

See ya there!

KittyKitty, I'll be there at the same time! Wear your lime green ribbon and I'll be on the lookout for you. We'll be east to spot--me with my line green ribbons and Home Depot Mickey ears, my 4yo, my sister, and our mother. We'll be a sight for sore eyes for sure! ;)

...just one that made me laugh. I was in one of the restrooms at Epcot, and a mom and young daughter were in the stall next to me. After they finished up, I heard the toilet flush, and the mother said, "Look, we didn't even have to touch it. In Disney, even the toilets are magical!"
