I finished one more dress tonight. I have been slowing working on this one for three days. I have one more to make though. These are not exactly my favorite dresses to make but the outcome is totally worth it. :)

**** I resized the pictures. I have no idea why the are ginormus!!! Sorry!!!****

Wow! The outcome was definitely worth it!!!

Tom...that is sooo cute...i am so glad Katie is at school right now and can't see that!:rotfl2: She would be begging...I keep telling her I'm not there yet...working on it...just not there YET. Beautiful as always!
Thanks!
Adorable! Simply adorable! Great work Tom.
Thank You!
Beautiful. To everyone who appliques: You amaze me with your talents.
Hmmm... don't look too close!
TOM! :faint: THAT is GORGEOUS!
Thanks!
Love it! It is very beautiful! And I just love the ruffles!
I like the ruffles too! Thanks to Jeanne for the idea!
Simply beautiful.
Thanks!
I love LADY!!! This is so pretty!!!! Another great job Tom!
Thank you!
Tom, have a wonderful trip. These are just beautiful.
We plan to! Thank you!
It's perfect Linnette! Don't change a thing!

So gorgeous Tom! I love it! Are you eating at Tony's?

.
Yes! We are eating at Tony's our first night!
Your lady came out so pretty!!! Beautiful outfit!!
Thank you!
I

Lady looks really special, and the whole outfit is so girly and feminine! Love it!
Thank you! I needed to do something pink for my girly girl!
Adorable!! I love all of the ruffles in the back.
Thanks!
Very cute Tom! I love how girly it is. You did a fantastic job on Lady too. Wasn't it you that said you didn't applique? You do a fantastic job on them!
Leighanna specifically asked for something with a dog on it! I thought of Lady because she loves that Movie. As far as appliqueing goes, it takes me alot of time to cut each piece, and then iron it all together. The thought of messing up all that hard work with some wonky stitches scares me!
I really like this, especially the ruffles on the back! Very girly and beautiful. I have a question about the ruffles - are they all the same width, and just attached on top of the back of the Vida piece??
Yep! They are all the same width. I took the measurement of the back piece and divided by five to figure out what width I needed. I stitched them on the back without adding insertian pieces. Very much like I do the back of the Feliz dresses.
Adorable!! I am working on a Lady and the Tramp set, and I think I used the same image of Lady - it's very similar. Mine's not finished though she got put away to work on the Big Give sets and I haven't picked her back up yet. I my have to try to finish her thi weekend. I hope mine turns out half as good as yours!
I am sure yours will be much better than mine! Your stuff is always amazing!
I love it! The Lady and the Tramp has a special place in my heart because my Grandmother was an Animator for that movie:) She drew Trusty's tail. lol.

I think it is cute:)
How cool is that?!? Thanks!
Tom, this came out beautiful. The colors of the fabrics are gorgeous!!
Thanks! I am trying to use up some of my stash!

Theresa,

Thanks so much for your help....I did tighten my bobbin screw and did the trick like you told me - it was actually waaaaayyyyy loose. Im still having an issue - on the bottom side, the thread looks like a straight line with a tight loop over it every stitch.....?????? the top actually looks okay??? its so weird??? this machine has never gotten out of wack for me before....any other ideas???? I dont have a book so its hard to problem solve....

I also made the adjustments on my serger like you suggested - will see next time I use it!! Thanks so much for your help!

Wendy

I knew yesterday morning when I was reading your post that something would go wrong with my bobbin thread and yep, suddenly it was crazy!

Anyways, my bobbin was doing exactly what yours was. Mine was towards the end and I was trying to use up that last bit instead of wasting it even though I knew I shouldn't. I am pretty sure that was my problem, as it is usually wound kind of weird and sometimes doesn't just come off nice. So, maybe try winding a new bobbin, but that would only work and possibly be the issue if you have left the same bobbin in every time!

I finished one more dress tonight. I have been slowing working on this one for three days. I have one more to make though. These are not exactly my favorite dresses to make but the outcome is totally worth it. :)

I really like this. What will miss Sophee be sporting?

I'm a little behind, so you've probably already made this, but the notches are the front and face up. I found this out the hard way when I was making a dozen for my DD's birthday party. Luckily I made a test one first or I'd have ended up with 12 names on the INSIDE of the hat! (and upside down too!) So... notches UP and that is the front.
th_bakerhats.jpg

Wow! Those are so cute! I cannot imagine doing that many.

Valentines Day is one of my absolute favorite holidays. For the last 7 yrs I have taken my kids to get their pictures taken on Valentine's. It started because Steve didn't understand why I spent so much money on getting the kids pictures taken and so for Valentine's Day I told him for my gift I wanted to be able to get the pictures done and not have to worry how much $ was spent. It's become a tradition.

Anyway, so I bought some fabric to make Madilynn a skirt to wear for pictures. At first I wanted to make one similar to this skirt.

But then I saw this skirt and can't decide.

this is the fabric I bought. And I had her put on the shirt I bought for her to wear with the skirt. Now I need help finding a way to tie the black into the skirt. I just can't decide at all.

th_SDC10529.jpg

I need to make Madilynn one of these too. She's been wanting one since she saw the one made for Shayelynn. Your rendition is cute too :)

If you went with the flounce skirt, the first one then you could line it in black and it seems as if at some angles you can always see a little of the under layer part.

If you did the 2nd, make the underskirt black and I think it would tie in really nice.

The Disney Outlet was at our mall for a few weeks and I bought Madilynn this shirt
th_SDC10533.jpg

because I wanted to make her a skirt based on this jumper

Do you think that's too much dots? Can you ever have too many dots? :)

This all is so hard for me. It's so much easier to have a pattern tell me exactly what I need and how to do it than to try to figure it all out.

Never too many polka dots! Maybe too many colors (in my mind) but not dots!

ya know, i made a dress for my dd out of that fabric and she too refused to wear it. She was 22 months at the time, and had never said she didnt want to wear something before. but everytime i tried to put that dress on her she cried.... i love that fabric! The mean mommy that i am, forced her to wear it to crystal palace, once we were out the door she was fine, but it was a fight to get her in it.
th_backtoschool015.jpg

That is weird about these Pooh dresses! This one is really cute! I can't imagine your DD not wanting to wear it.

CHECK OUT MY TICKER!!!
I convinced DH to go this May 9-16!!!! I just need to make reservations tomorrow morning. Oh and I need to pick a moderate resort - any suggestions?

Edited to add - I think I just picked CBR. Look at that kiddie water play area.
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22755516&postcount=7

Dallas stayed there for one night in December with my parents. He LOVES the hotel now and asks to stay there every time. I am almost sorry I didn't book it for the dismeet.

Howard Johnsen Anaheim has this same pirate ship set up and it is so much fun! Even the little slides are fun, they look little and short and are, but I even enjoyed them! I think this resort will suddenly be very popular again with the new rooms and pool.

I have been reading these boards for over a year. We made our first trip to Disney last June. I made the girls several outfits from ideas that I saw on here. I will try to post some of the pics. We are planning another trip for June of this year....so I need to get sewing again. Thanks Missy

Here's my first Raglan. I got the Pooh fleece as a remnant on Black Friday. Now it can be nice and warm when we go to WDW next week. My ticker is a day off because I never changed it when the 7 for 4 deal came out and I added a night. SOOOOOO much left to do!

I really need to get that pattern! Very cute!
Absolutely wonderful. You seem to have such a knack for putting fabrics together.

!
Thanks! I just picked everything out from my stash! I am trying to be as economical as I can!
Tom that is just wonderful! :cheer2: I love the colors and ruffles and the applique. We just watched that movie and its so cute! I love the older Disney movies! I know you said that this would be your last outfit...but don't forget you have to blog too. I keep checking for updates :rotfl2: Just thought I would give you one more thing to do before you go......:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:
Leighanna loves that movie too! I might try to squeak out one more outfit and then I will try to blog about them!
Hi everyone, I have spent a good hour or more catching up and looking at all the wonderful outfits.

There are too many things to comment on individually, but I have enjoyed seeing them. I really like the Shamu outfit. I think it is perfect. So many boys outfits are a little too over the top, but this one is really just perfect.

I also love the Vida with the ruffles on the back. I was a little surprised when I saw it though. I have some St. Patty's fabric on my cutting table already cut in strips to do the same thing. LOL!!! GMTA!! Actually, applique is not my strong suit, so I was going to do the ruffles as a way to avoid having to do an applique.
Applique is not my strong suit either! I was so thankful that Jeanne posted hers and it was a BRILLIANT idea! Saved me alot of time trying to applique the back!

AIMEE! Love this! I love the pop of color on the back!
The Feliz is a little challenging, but I think worth the effort!

This morning- Hooray! i get to go to my class at church- im taking a class on a book called "Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes...in you and your kids"
I am so happy to be going! I get Megan all dressed, pig tails and Cindy bows and all. Then i focus on myself, put the dogs in my bedroom, put my jacket on and realize Megan has closed the door at the top of our stairs- which has a lock, but no key and she locked it. I have no access to the garage, and DH has a lovely habit of ALWAYS locking the back door. I pray for the best and go out the front door and limp my way thru the snow, down our hill to the back. Yup, it's locked. But windows right beside it are not. It's my only option. Pregnant or not, symphysis or not- it's my only option. Other than being trapped in my house all day- which is NOT an option. I flip over a rubbermaid type container thats out there and try to use that- but its so cold it just shatters under me. I go for a office trash can and flip that over- it's filled with ice. That doesnt shatter. Im able to launch half my body thru the window- my hands can reach the couch, but its too far for me to pull my body onto. So I have to do the inevitable, I have to pull one leg in at a time. With a heavy and ho I manage to get my fat butt and belly thru the window (thank the Lord there were no cameras around!). I go up the stairs and open the door and Megan in her 2yr old voice says "I DID IT!!" i look at her and dryly reply- "No, I did it"
We leave. All goes well. A lot of walking, but still a good time.
I get home- Megan had let the dogs out of the bedroom while I was stuffing myself thru the window and the dogs have strewn trash ALL over my kitchen floor and living room rug. egg shells, tomato sauce, caramel sauce, rotten eggplant- everything! I clean floor, on my knees- my mop broke. The stains are still in the rug. .....sigh.....
I try to nap, but the phone rings, i keep having to get up because of my teeny-tiny bladder. LOL! I sort of kind of get a nap, but not really.
DH calls and says hes leaving work and going to gym- since Im forbidden to go grocery shopping I ask what we are eating- he says "Im not eating, I have a weigh-in tomorrow" I say okay- what about Megan and me? Uhh, I dont know, isnt there food there? No, there isnt.
Sigh....he has no response. So i stuck like a college kid scrounging around in my kitchen to feed DD and me.
Really, inside, Im laughing.

i just love coming on here and seeing everyone's creations! Cheers me right up!!!!
Oh MY! the visual I have of a pg lady climbing through a window! :rotfl: Sorry to laugh but I am glad in the end it all worked out!

Yikes :scared: ! That sounds like a fun day for you! I swear husbands and kids could drive you crazy! I have a married straight friend who swears it would be easier to be a lesbian b/c at least another woman would "get it" and be more helpful than a husband! And somedays I agree! Okay, I hope that wasn't a controversial statement and please know that it wasn't intended to be insulting or argumentative.....just a funny comment that I'm repeating! Please no flames!
I want a wife too!

Oh snap - this thread is amazing! I typically linger in the tee shirt iron on section and now have been on this thread for over an hour! BEAUTIFUL! :cheer2: I am not a great sewer but was wondering how you make the amazing appliques? I read the first thread and went to the appliques bookmark but was not sure how to make them from there? I see lots of clip art and coloring pages under that section so I assume that has something to do with it. I would love to know how to do them. My DD is 7 and is almost out of the "home made clothes" stage :sad1: maybe I can swing them in for this trip in Sept! Many thanks! Blessings to each of you on your amazing talent! :thumbsup2
She isn't too old My DD9 still wears stuff I make her to school and her friends have even asked me to them things!

ya know, i made a dress for my dd out of that fabric and she too refused to wear it. she is just too cute! Sorry she gave you a rough time about wearing it because it was so pretty.
I'm getting a new sewing machine!!! Yay!!! Anything will be an upgrade from what I have (Singer from Target). I need some suggestions.

I am a novice sewer, but I really like it. I want to be able to do embroidery as well. Digital would be great.
COOL! I just got the Brother innovis 900d and I LOVE IT! you can only get it at a brother dealer but brother has a really good special going right now!

cute! idea!

I have a question for those who have made the CarlaC flounce skirt. I am making one for Jenna and I am adding the shorts underneath. Well for some reason the shorts are much smaller than the shorts top piece. Is it supposed to be that way and I am just missing something? Please help, because the shorts don't look like they will fit Jenna at all.:confused3
Did you accidently cute the wrong size shorts out?

Valentines Day is one of my absolute favorite holidays. For the last 7 yrs I have taken my kids to get their pictures taken on Valentine's. These are all so cute. You did a wonderful job on them all.

Marlo-I kept double checking the size printed on the pattern to make sure and then I printed the shorts part again and the two pieces were the same size. I was even worried that I had messed up the shorts because I sewed them with a smaller seam allowance, but even with that they were too small.

not sure then. I did cut out an extra top part but I figured i could use the material for applique so no biggie. i wish I had an answer for you! I remember mine ended up going perfectly around the inside circle part of the flounce. feel free to stop by and I will get some coffee ready for us and we can try to figure out what is going on together! :goodvibes

This is stunning. i see you made your ties longer and have them on the outside, instead of the inside. This would also be perfect on the cruise ship with the artist pallete restaurant!!

For anyone considering doing the Feliz for the first time- I highly recommend using the tutorial on Trillium blog. Just do a google search for "Feliz dress tutorial" and it will be in the top 3 links- it has helped me so much, I havent even bothered to look at the text. My only question is if I am doing the seam allowance right to get the right size....we shall see!

Okay so if you had a gremlin who put little cuts in your dress- would a patch on the back side of the dress work? Or would I still have to put something on top of the cuts to keep from fraying?

Thanks so much!!! Question for ya, you know the little flappy fold you iron in - where does that end up going?? Im not positive??????

I have a question for those who have made the CarlaC flounce skirt. I am making one for Jenna and I am adding the shorts underneath. Well for some reason the shorts are much smaller than the shorts top piece. Is it supposed to be that way and I am just missing something? Please help, because the shorts don't look like they will fit Jenna at all.:confused3

Oh, that would be frustrating - I made a size 2,3,5,6 and the shorts seemed to fit exactly right - they fit with the yoke with no extra slack at all...they are kinda short shorts, but I think they are mainly for modesty????? I hope you get it figured out....

So, maybe try winding a new bobbin, but that would only work and possibly be the issue if you have left the same bobbin in every time!

You know what - thats a GREAT idea - Im going to try a full bobbin and see what happens, most of the bobbins i have been using lately are amost empty and I was trying to use them up!!!!!!!!! thanks!

Do you know that you can make them take a cool bath just like babies? There is nothing to bring a temp down faster than that.

Yes I have both pieces glued together. The shorts are about 3 inches shorter on the sides than the top piece. When I get back I will take pictures of the shorts and top piece and the two pattern pieces.

I finished one more dress tonight. I have been slowing working on this one for three days. I have one more to make though. These are not exactly my favorite dresses to make but the outcome is totally worth it. :)

Aimee, I love this. I think it is just stunning. Hey, I love the dress form, and have been wanting to get one. Where did you get yours? Or does anyone here know where I can get a child-sized dress form?

So... notches UP and that is the front.

Wow!! Those look great. I downloaded the pattern but never got around to making one. When I do though, I will definitely remember.... Notches UP in the front.

I love both skirts. As others have mentioned, you could make the underlayer out of a black fabric. I have also added a simple black tie to the twirl skirts before, and I think you could do that, too. Something like this....

Also, I believe Aimee used the peek-a-boo pattern for her skirt. You could always put a little black something, something right there.

I have been reading these boards for over a year. We made our first trip to Disney last June. I made the girls several outfits from ideas that I saw on here. .

Those are cute. I can't wait to see what you come up with for this trip.

Applique is not my strong suit either! I was so thankful that Jeanne posted hers and it was a BRILLIANT idea! Saved me alot of time trying to applique the back!

That's too funny. I thought I was the only one who would add a ruffle to something to avoid doing an applique. LOL!!! Your appliques are really nice though. I would never guess they weren't your strong suit. Mine are getting better, but I also sometimes think we are our own worst critic.

This is stunning. i see you made your ties longer and have them on the outside, instead of the inside. This would also be perfect on the cruise ship with the artist pallete restaurant!!

Okay so if you had a gremlin who put little cuts in your dress- would a patch on the back side of the dress work? Or would I still have to put something on top of the cuts to keep from fraying?

I thought Aimee's ties were on the inside, but you're right. This would be great for the cruise ship.

When my girls have made cuts in their clothing, I have done a reverse applique. I'd cut the hole into a little heart or something, place fabric on the inside and stitch around the design I had made (a heart in my case). I left the edges raw so they can fray a little. It has turned out cute. I'll see if I can find a pic later on.

Flounce skirt-I feel so stupid. Apparently last night I was too tired to be sewing. I apparently never cut the shorts piece out. So what pieces did I sew together for the shorts you ask? Why the sleeves to the peasant top I also cut out of the same fabric. :crazy2: You all have my permission to laugh at me. :rotfl2:I know I am. Carla there isn't anything wrong with your pattern just the person sewing it together. :thumbsup2

That is SO something I would do!
In your defense the sleeves so kind of look like the pants pattern!
