Hi ladies! I hope everyone had the best weekend possible. Its been storming all weekend. Georgia was with her dad, I was going to sew and have a nice weekend to myself and do things for ME (how rare!) but I got so lonely and depressed being here all alone, no kid, no room mate... :( I decided to pack up a weekend bag and get out of town. I thought about bringing my sewing machine but ended up not. I went up about 2.5 hrs north to Red Bluff where my roomie was. Her boyfriend lives there. So its nice to have a "vacation home" haha It was nice staying up there and having someone around to keep my spirits lifted.

We got home this afternoon after picking up Georgia. Its very wet and windy! I love it. We are expecting flooding, not at our house but around the outskirts of town. Tomorrow (or later today) Georgia and I are going to make some skirts and outfits for her and her new build-a-bear! I am very excited. It will be the first time for her sewing. She is super excited.

Everyones things are sooo awesome! I love all the creations.

May I ask how you did the eyelashes on Lady? Did you do these by hand? The outfits are beautiful.
Thanks!
Yes! I did them by hand! I didn't want to ruin it by using my machine, no matter how bad I really wanted to!

Jessica, great pics of the kiddos at the Dismeet! Leighanna had fun with all of them!

Hey all! I hope everybody had a great weekend! We did...BUSY but good. I am not big on the whole Valentine's day...really it became a weird day for us as me and DH broke up the year I was pregnant with Katie on Valentine's day...we worked eveything out...but it kinda leaves a sour taste in your mouth...

So, we have struggled over the years to find what to do with the day. We really celebrate our love everyday, so to have a special day seems kinda weird. So, we have turned into a family fun day with the kids...however, DH still feels the need to buy me something...this year...new frying pans. Don't laugh! I love getting stuff to cook with almost as much as getting stuff to sew with.

Anyway, we took the kids bowling...can I tell you, my kids can bowl...DH says he think the part yankee comes out in them!:lmao: DH is from Ohio and grew up on a bowling alley he says! But then again, I used to work in a bowling alley before I met him...see it was in the stars for us!

Then we went to eat at Sticky Fingers...yummy good eatin there...not apart of my diet! Then we did a run to the airport in Charolotte, DH leaves for Vegas on Saturday and had no idea where the airport was here:confused3 . Then we took the kids to Chuck E Cheese...HUGE MISTAKE! Good grief that place was packed! Way too many kids! It mad me very nervous! I am one of those Moms that HAS to know where her kids are at all times...very hard in that place!

So it was great time to be had.

And I have good news! My Granny, as you remember, she had a stroke a few weeks back. Well, first a little update. She had a slimy insurance person sell her some insurance year before last (we didn't know!!!! and my Mom has power of attorney)...she gave up medicare for this crapy insurance. Well, guess what...the insurance only covered for her to go into nursing care in this CRAPY home in a VERY BAD neighborhood. WE ARE NOT HAPPY!!!! It took two days before they started PT with her!:scared1: Thankfully, we have a friend that does that and she started with her the first day, we didn't even ask the home. My mom has been working and working to get all of this straight while my poor Granny sits over there! Mom called this morning to let me know we move her on the 28th to a home right down the road from her!   I am soooooo happy! This is a home we have always used for my grandparents...THEY ROCK!

Okay...I have taken up enough of your day! I will head out to see what was sewn over the weekend! Have a GREAT MONDAY!:goodvibes

I am about to turn in for the night but wanted to post a couple of pictures first! I bet I took over 100 at the meet! Here is a small preview of the fun to come!

So glad you got everything straightened out with your Granny!

We took the kids bowling yesterday too. Nik had never been Kyle did it a few yrs ago for a bday party. Kyle was SO funny! We could only find a neon pink ball but George managed to convince him it was red. Well Everytime he threw the ball down the ally he would yell 'WHOSE DE MAN!':rotfl2: Yeah whose de man with the neon pink ball! :rotfl:

Yesterday I went shopping with Nikki. I had this coach bag I got last yr and it stated changing colors so the lady in the store told me to return it and they could give me credit. So i di and got full credit for it so I bought another Coach bag! I love it but I feel bad it was more then the one I returned and George told me to get the one I really wanted but this one is a kelly green color which is gorgeous BUT I feel awful because when I sped that kind of money on a bag I usually feel like I have to get something classic. this is a classic style but NOT a classic color. I am torn if I should just exchange it for the same bag in a classic color:confused3 George said keep it if I love it but I feel bad because it is a bit bright! :rotfl2:

I also got Nik a cute outfit at Justice so she was thrilled. Of course they didn't have her size in the clearance section where things where VERY cheap so she got something from the spring line but still 40% off so I am happy.

Any teachers out there???? Joann's just started a program that gives teachers 15% off of their entire purchase!!!

They have had it, maybe not advertised. As soon as I got approved to sub I was first in line to get my discount card!

You get 15% off everything, including sale items!

Kell, I have had friends go through it and I thought they were lucky to get a weekend alone and they told me, no, they don't feel lucky at all. I hope it gets better for you.

Jessica, cute pictures! That is one big penguin. When we took the backstage tour, we got to pet little guys. I'm glad Dallas was happy!

Benita, the dresses are adorable. They are so much work; kudos for doing two of them! After I finished one I was done with that pattern for a while!

Hi Friends,

I am trying to make a Darth Vader helmet on a white T shirt for DS. Should I cut out the entire helmet and then add the white or cut out from the black to show white T underneath?

Here is a picture of what I am trying to do. It is going to be in felt until I get better at applique. Is it ok to use an Xacto knife and self healing cutting mats?

TTMask_DarthVader.jpg

TIA for the help. I am starting to see the light as I have been sewing hard everyday. I did go to the city on Sat but could not find anymore fabric of the AK outfit so I pieced my skirt together. I just don't know if I like it yet.

I will post pictures as soon as I can someone to take them of DS and I in our outfits.

Thanks to everyone that commented on my V-Day dresses. I was pretty happy on how they turned out. Next time I think instead of using the bias tape I'm going to try a ruffle on the bottom.

Steph - doing two of them is a pain in the neck! I actually don't mind doing that pattern (Vida) but I get tired of doing the same thing over and over. And now with Lilly, I end up doing three of the same dress (if she fits in the pattern) or at least three of the same fabric. I love having three girls but man am I tired of looking at the same "stuff"! And my girls LOVE dressing alike! Although I will say that pattern kind of goes together strangely, it takes a lot of pinning to get it right.

I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to whoever posted and kept talking about the ruffler alternative way to ruffle. I know someone just posted about having the Brother machine and wondering about getting a ruffler but that Brother didn't make one to go with their machine. My machine is the Costco version of the CS 6001 (or something like that - the one that is around $180) and when I emailed Brother they said there wasn't one compatible. I tried a universal ruffler from Janome and it never worked right with my machine so I resigned myself to zigzagging over elastic thread but was never thrilled with the results. It was better than the basting method but not perfect. After reading about the tension method I tried it on here and have to say I am thrilled with the results! Thanks again to whoever's idea it was to do this! It made my day! Just in case someone on here reading this hasn't seen the directions I will summarize them for you - increase your tension as high as it can go and lengthen your stitch to as long as you can go and sew VERY slowly and your fabric will ruffle all by itself! It is so wonderful! Thanks again to whoever came up with the idea, I'm really so excited about it!

Thanks Taylor!!! Like Heather, I'm a big fan of the :steph: :snooty: and this one: :laundy: confuses Arminda. She tries to figure out why the smiley is tired after only putting up three pieces of laundry. I tried to explain to her that it's because it is never ending, but she didn't get it! Someday, when she is a Mom, she will get it!
!!!
LOL...I think I musta missed something....like why you and your sister call that smilie the STEPH??? :confused3 lol and that Arminda is too funny...

I think I would add the white on top of the black if you are using felt. I have a self healing cutting mat but I don't know about the Xacto knife.

I just really don't like VD at all. Why pay more for flowers? A card? Candy? It is all a made up holiday by the florists and card companies based on human emotions of guilt. I know I am loved and if I got anything for VD I would be so mad! I am right there with ya.

I am so happy Granny will be close to you and we can hunt down the scum who preys on older folks. Boy that really burns me to know that such scum gets away with this.

LOL...I think I musta missed something....like why you and your sister call that smilie the STEPH??? :confused3

They think I am snooty! :snooty: No, it's just my favorite smilie, whenever I see it, it makes me laugh. I go out of my way to use it!

I am working on a marieke, which I am so happy to do with a sew along. I wish there was a sew along for the laguna, which I am still afraid to try!

Keep the bag as your only other choice for classic is a Louis! I love LV but no longer have a life to support such a thing. I did sell all mine but my wallet and coin purse. Even now I don't use them. Keep the bag and don't feel bad at all. It sounds like you have a great DH.

Random Question:

For those that have made the YCMT Wrap Dress, have you lined it? Do you think it would be hard to modify it to make it lined? I'm a little concerned that the material I am using for the top might be a bit thin. That and I like the structure of a lined bodice. I feel it holds the skirt up better

HEY KAREN - CRICUT QUEEN!I have a question for you. When you make your chipboard books, how do you attach the paper to the front and back? Do you use xyron? Or what type of adhesive? I'm trying to use xyron, but the areas right up next to the edge are sticky. I'm wondering if I should try something else?

Ya'll inspired me to try sewing DDs some Disney outfits (although much simpler ones than most of you make!). Let me just say, I have not sewn anything with a pattern or with too many steps in about 25 years. Since everyone said Carla's patterns were easy to follow I figured that was a good place to start. I made the reversible a-line for DD3--Mickey heads on 1 side, Tigger on the other (I didn't make DD1's dress):

DSC04350.jpg

I didn't attempt a button-hole, so the button is sewn on a snap. I couldn't find any Mickey buttons, so I'll have to keep looking. Next I need to figure out the ruffler I have & attempt some more dresses!

LOL..thanks for setting me straight on that one...I was starting to feel bad for ya!!! LOL. Glad to hear it is just your favorite smilie.

So what does the marieke look like? Come on Steph I know you can make both. You ROCK girl!!!:snooty:

I'm glad they're going to be able to move your Granny into a nicer area. You must be so worried with her in a not-so-nice place!

Sounds like fun was had by all on Valentine's Day. We had a family fun day, too. We went to a local arcade, but wished we'd went to Chuck E. Cheese instead. It was seedy and overpriced!

Well Everytime he threw the ball down the ally he would yell 'WHOSE DE MAN!':rotfl2: Yeah whose de man with the neon pink ball! :rotfl:
:lmao: :rotfl2: That is so funny!!!

I don't have any advice on the bag. I have a hard time paying more than $15for a purse. Most of the time I use a bag that I bought at Target 2 years ago for $15.

They have had it, maybe not advertised. As soon as I got approved to sub I was first in line to get my discount card!

You get 15% off everything, including sale items!
I didn't know that! That's so cool!

I'm not sure what I would do. I think either way would be equally difficult because there are so many little pieces. I think I'd try using black and cutting it out so the white shirt would show through.

Those turned out GREAT!! Welcome to the CarlaC fan club!! Your girls are SO cute!

Jessica: I LOVED those pictures! I especially love the one of Morgan and Dallas. How sweet are they?!

I have made it several times and I line it each time. To me it makes it less flimsy. I just put the ruffle in between the two layers and sewed it together and then topstitch the ruffle to make it lay down. I did one dress where I did not topstitch the ruffle down and it was very cute like that. HTH
