I must be crabby this morning because I really need to vent about the bus stop! It has been building for a week or so and it isn't just me!

So, the bus comes at 6:55, not a big deal. It is cold, we go out, stand there and wait. There is another boy who now rides the bus, just started the past 3 weeks or so since his mother got laid off. The first week they walked to the bus stop about 1/2 the time, now they just stand at the end of their drive way waiting for the bus to pick them up.

Now, why am I aggitated? Because the bus stop is one house to the right of us (the one we go to) and the other is one house to the left, BUT if we went to the other one I could totally watch the bus drive by, go down and turn around and then go outside instead of standing in the cold. Wouldn't that be great! Yep, sure would! Of course the ISSUE is that this is NOT a bus stop!!!! And he is not supposed to wait there but come to the REAL bus stop!

Thanks for listening.

That is NOT fair, and you should mention this to someone! Bus stops can make me really mad too! Corey use to have to walk down the road to a kid's house who wasn't even always on the bus! And, it is REALLY dark when he left for school! I called to complain and they said that since the stop was there first (the boy was older than Corey) they wouldn't do anything. When I mentioned that the rules for bus stops say that it can't be within so much distance from a curve (and this house was RALLY close to the curve) they acted like I was nuts! But that boy got his license and the Mom called the bus garage and told them to move the stop to our house. I thought that was nice of her.

I don't have the stripwork, but I do use the simply sweet all the time. It has two bodice options, jumper and halter, and different tie options too. I use the halter one all the time, mostly for tops.

Did you see the e-mail he wrote her after she sent the snow pictures? He typed it himself, it said "LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Megan said she would like to go back to Michigan too to see SOOOO much snow!
.

1. I love that picture of Megan!!! That top is adorable!
2.I havent' spyed on Arminda's email for a few days! I need to go check it out! (She told me I could read any email she sends or gets. Not that I wouldn't have anyway!) I told her she should send a picture of the snow to Jacob, I didn't know she did! We have more snow than when she sent the picture though.
3.It's nice to LOOK at, but it's soooo sooooo sooooo sooooooooo COLD!!! It's 5below with the windchill today, and suppose to get colder tomorrow. We have a "windchill warning from tonight to tomorrow". In other words, if you are out more than a few minutes with exposed skin, you will probably get frostbite or worse!

Actually, why don't you guys plan another trip up! I'm kind of tired of the cold and snow! I bet it would get warm and all the snow would melt the day before you got here!!!

It's -30 here today with the windchill. Ugh.

I'll have plenty of time to comment the latest creations, after I drop the kids off at school (it's indoor recess all this week, so they'll be climbing the walls . . .) I'm lighting a fire in the fireplace, hunkering down with a HUGE coffee and dreaming of Disney!

Stephanie
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! It's a balmy -5 with the windchill here today! I could practically wear my shorts outside compared to you!

Hancock has something called Nylon Net. Is this what I need? It doesn't look like netting fabric and it is 100% nylon. It is very thin.

That is a beautiful dress. You did a fabulous job on it.
That sounds like what you need. Have you seen it? It should be a little stretchy and not fray where it's been cut. If you look in the bookmarks under "fabric" there are some links called chiffon, that might give you a better idea of what you need. I've found it at Walmart in the $1 section (actually it's the $1.50 section now!)

Honestly, my DH is so supportive that he WOULD start looking at a new machine for me. When I started sewing as an adult he encouraged me to go for the high or mid-level machine (just singers at wal-mart) rather than the cheapest one, and I was glad I did.

BUT, last night I told him it was either the machine or the thread, so we ran right out and got some Coats & Clark and I had no problems after that. ( I had cheap thread from wal-mart on it before that and I think that may have been causing the problems.)

Cheap thread can really cause your machine to act wonky!

You know my DH is real supportive of my sewing also. He is the one who talked me into getting the machine that does embroidery. I was just going to get a plain one. The only thing that bugs him is that I keep buying fabric. He doesn't understand my obsession with fabric.

My husband doesn't understand my obsessive need for more fabric either! :confused3 Of COURSE I need another BOLT of Minnie Dot!!! If the economy completely fails, I can use it for CURRENCY!!!

I think all husbands do not understand the need to hord fabric!!!!:lmao:

I bet Tom gets it!

I've tried to explain it to him and he just doesn't get it. My arguments were, "I don't have anything like this," "If I have the fabric on hand then I will be able to sew anything at anytime," "It saves time to have all kinds of fabric on hand," "What if I need to make something for someone with no notice?" None of these worked on him.
It makes PERFECT sense to me!

I have actually tried to stop acquiring more fabric, but then it just keeps coming. I accidentally won $25 worth of fabric, for Christmas I was given a gift card to Hancock Fabrics and DH's grandma is giving me her stash. So see sometimes it's not my fault.

You are right, that's not your fault at all, it couldn't be helped! :thumbsup2
I made Grace the "Miss Molly Sundress" from the YCMT website. She is going to wear it to Animal Kingdom in Feb.

I am just starting to sew again after 15 years. I am no where near as good as you guys are. I am amazed at the talent you all have.

That is really cute!

Couldn't believe how quiet you all were yesterday and how quickly I was getting caught up. Guess I should have know that you moved.
I loved your pictures!!! Some cute stuff there!
But, I was laughing about this!!!
Just shy of -40 here (which is the same in Celcius and Farenheit), and school busses were cancelled as it was too cold for them to start. DH is home with them and the fire is burning.

Very cute.

Ok, you win! Corey's teacher called someone the other day to see how cold it would have to be to cancel school. The "official" policy is "sustained -20 temperatures including windchill". I htought it was funny that a teacher called to find out!

These are some of the gifts I made
PJ pants and travel pillows for my niece and nephew (sorry the color is off in these pics)This is the rag quilt I made for my sister.
th_PICT0367.jpg

I love this quilt!!! I loved all your stuff!! I think it is really sweet that you make personalized items for the daycare workers!

I am almost done, I promise!

Megan had been asking for some "button up flannel pajamas" so I made a matching set for her and Emily. I used CarlaC's bowling shirt pattern and just extended the arm length. It was very easy!

th_PICT0446.jpg

Thanks for letting me share!
That turned out great!

Anything really. Helpful, right? :) I have almost all of CarlaC's patterns including the stripwork jumper am considering the simply sweet, I just don't know if they're too little girl. KWIM? I am sure they are NOT, but I'd love to see some pics of older girls in them for ideas. THANKS!

I made Arminda a Belle dres from the Simply Sweet and Portrait peasant top pattern. She really liked it. If you look at the things I've made in the Photobucket account, they are mostly for 5-10 year olds. Plus a 14 year old too! (if you click on my name under "recent uploads" it should take you to a page of all the things I've made)

Does anyone know where you can get a pattern to make a shopping cart cover?
I have some free ones (or at least one) in the bookmarks under "baby". It's from the janandrea site. Let me know if you can't find it. You can try a search too, if you don't see it.

I want to make the raglan hoodie for my nephew. I bought some flannel fabric to use, is there anything I need to know to do different since I'm using flannel? I've never made this pattern so any help would be appreciated!
I was going to ask Carla this same question!

Doesn't someone's DH work at wal-mart?

Mine is thinking of responding to an IT ad for Bentonville.

Jessica's did up until recently when he switched jobs.

I made a stripwork skirt for my 6 and 9 year old and they both wear them to school (I was concerned about the 9 year old, but she was jealous that I made one for her sister so I made one for her too). For our upcoming trip I am making both girls (they will be 7 and 9 when we travel) the A-line top with the flouncy skirt.

Thanks!

Best bet is to go to Joann's when they have the $.99 Simplicity patterns. They actually have a couple of choices.

Thanks for the help!!! This is going to be the first real projects I've done. All I've done before is grocery bag tubes, cloths pin holders, dog beds, panneled baby blankets that you just sew binding on, and cut and sew fleece blankets. Fingers crossed this is going to come out well :goodvibes ;)

I was going to ask Carla this same question!

Looking at pictures, I've always thought that the raglan would require a fabric that is stretchier than flannel. Am I wrong? (To go over heads)

Finally uploaded pictures of the christmas dress I made for Hannah. Sorry that I am so late. Thank you to Jen for the bows. I was stunned at how beautiful they are!
I had some trouble with the smocked insert. I think it would have gone better had I redrafted the top of the pattern to be straight. I didn't think of that until I was too far in! it was really hard getting the seam allowance to lay correctly so it wouldn't make my top row of smocking look crooked. In the end I just gave up and let it be crooked. :headache:

th_IMG_3309.jpg

Gorgeous! I used these fabrics a lot this season

I've tried to explain it to him and he just doesn't get it. None of these worked on him.

Sounds reasonable to me :confused3

Couldn't believe how quiet you all were yesterday and how quickly I was getting caught up. Guess I should have know that you moved. :rolleyes1

I keep telling myself that I will post my Christmas project once I get caught up and have a chance to comment on all the fabulous stuff everyone had made, but I can see that that may never happen, so I'm going to go ahead and post.

Here is Megan's Christmas Vida - we both loved how this turned out.

Apron for the kids' daycare provider. Her favorite color is orange so that has a lot to do with the fabric choices. You can't really tell from the pictures but the strip across the front is a big divided pocket. It was reversible.

Lots of great stuff! That rag quilt is gorgeous!

Help me figure out how to get PINK finger nail polish out of a Brand New Gymbo shirt.:scared1:

YES!!! The 2yr old struck again!:sad2:

I haven't tried these myself, but I have read that hairspray and a toothbrush or bug spray and a toothbrush.
Good luck, let us know what works.

I got my sewing machine today so I'm trying to work on several "half finished" projects. I finally hunted down the last piece of bias tape I needed. Three stores later and I'm done with Lily's Small World skirt. I'll eventually get her to model it. I need someone to make some bows for me now! I bought ribbon but I sit and look at it and think maybe not. Have I mentioned I love finding a shirt I like and then making a skirt to match it? :rotfl:

Just FYI, Joanns does have all their Simplicity patterns on sale for $.99 right now, so if you have one nearby now's the time to grab the pattern!

Sorry about the weird picture, my kiddos wouldn't hold still long enough to take a good one!

I go away for 3 days and end up moving to page 17? WOW!! Couldn't wait for me huh? :confused3

ANyhoo, I will catch up later or tomorrow and post some pics. Virginia was cold and wet but getting to shop at Joanns was totally worth the trip!

1.)How far in advance do you all normally make your outfits for WDW trips? My trip is still 11 months away, so I have plenty of time, but I'm concerned if I make stuff too far out it won't end up being the right size - how do you handle that?

2.)Also, not sure if I just haven't seen it on the first page yet - is there someplace to download or buy some of the applique mickey head patterns? TIA! :)
1.)About 12 hours! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Although, I'm hoping that some of the things I made Lydia last year will work this year too. They will be shorter, but I think we can get away with it! If you are making something like the portrait peasant dress, you can make it a little bigger than she needs it now. I always make a sash to go with it, so that it is more of a customized fit. If you make something that ends up too short, ruffles are always a great way to add some extra inches! I think I'll add a few rows of ruffles to Lydia's Marie dress this year (and Heather, I added the tags to the pictures so you can find them now!)
2.)There are Mickey head templates in the Group Photobucket account (link in first post) under the "graphics" or "patterns and templates" tags.

Aww, they are cuties! Good job on the jammies!

k, I bought some Mickey Fleece and was wanting to make a stroller bunting for my P3. We will be in the World in Feb. So who knows how the weather will be. Does anyone have a pattern or idea on how to make one?

How often does Joann's do this? I ran into a $.99 sale after Christmas, and I bought a few, but I wish I bought more. I hope it's not just a once a year thing... Our Joann's is pretty new, so I don't know the ropes, yet.

I love all of the things that have been posted today. Jeanne that Small World outfit is too cute. I love that shirt. Is it store bought or did you make it?

I am so glad that you guys understand my obsession with fabric. I used the fabric as currency argument on DH and he just rolled his eyes. Then I told him if Nostradamus' prophecies come true then I will be able to make clothes in exchange for food. :lmao:He didn't buy that either.

Crystal- thanks for that! My husband is a big End Times guy- loves to watch whatever is on tv on it, read about it, etc. I love the idea of using fabric as currency- not sure Im ready to make clothes for others- I could do it for kids, but adult clothing is so unappealing to me. I would do quilts/blankets, but probably a fair amount of women out there who do that.
