Thanks for letting me share!

Wow! You have been busy! Everything is fantastic!

Honestly, my DH is so supportive that he WOULD start looking at a new machine for me. When I started sewing as an adult he encouraged me to go for the high or mid-level machine (just singers at wal-mart) rather than the cheapest one, and I was glad I did.

BUT, last night I told him it was either the machine or the thread, so we ran right out and got some Coats & Clark and I had no problems after that. ( I had cheap thread from wal-mart on it before that and I think that may have been causing the problems.)
That is GREAT he is so supportive and even better your machine is working better!

I made Grace the "Miss Molly Sundress" from the YCMT website. She is going to wear it to Animal Kingdom in Feb.

I am just starting to sew again after 15 years. I am no where near as good as you guys are. I am amazed at the talent you all have.
Great job! I was looking at that material the other day.

Okay, I know I could browse the bazillion pictures on photobucket, but I doubt any of the pics are categorized for what I'm looking for...

Would any of you mind posting pics of your customs for 6-8 year old girls? I see a lot of stuff on here that's so cute, but a lot of it is for the younger crowd. I'm trying to think ahead of what my DD will want to wear when we go next October.

THANKS!
What kind of stuff are you looking for. Nikki is 9 and loves skirts and the peasant top by Carla. I am actually making her the flouncy skirt right now for her Vday outfit. When I was asking her how long she wanted it she said she wants it below the knees for better twirling:cheer2:

Couldn't believe how quiet you all were yesterday and how quickly I was getting caught up. Guess I should have know that you moved. :rolleyes1

I keep telling myself that I will post my Christmas project once I get caught up and have a chance to comment on all the fabulous stuff everyone had made, but I can see that that may never happen, so I'm going to go ahead and post.

Here is Megan's Christmas Vida - we both loved how this turned out.

Apron for the kids' daycare provider. Her favorite color is orange so that has a lot to do with the fabric choices. You can't really tell from the pictures but the strip across the front is a big divided pocket. It was reversible.

Everything came out GREAT! I love that you did a Vida for a 9 yr old! I love that pattern and i thought Nikki might be too young but seeing it on your dd made me rethink it! So now i may need to get it for some of her summer clothes:rolleyes1
The rag quilt is beautiful too!

http://www.suave.com/nomics/index.html

I know we are the sewing thread but I found this on the freebie board and wanted to share because it is an amazing deal. A free bottle of Suave hair product. The site didn't work at first but I went back and tried again.

I hope others can use this. Back to sewing. Sorry for going OT.

Does anyone else have a child where clown is looking like a viable option for lifetime occupation? This child utterly drives me crazy. Yesterday we were at Brownies and the girls were practicing selling cookies. There was one Brownie who was way sillier than all the other girls. I also noticed that she is a head taller than almost all the other girls. When did she get so tall?

Anyway, yesterday I cut up some of her jeans and played around with the leftover fabric to make her this:

IMG_1065.jpg

Don't expect to see a close up of that zebra any time soon! I kept looking at Jeanne's trying to get him close and hers are much cuter!

Oh, and if anyone wants any girl scout cookies, let me know. When they were discussing goals, the girls said they wanted to sell enough to go to Disney World! Their leaders said that was quite a lot of cookies they would have to sell!

Yes, I have one of those kids as well. Ella is constantly "clowning." She'll do anything for a laugh, even if it includes bodily harm. I don't know what to do with her! She really does have great comedic timing and I'm always saying that we need to get her into acting or something!

I love the jeans! I need to make a valentines outfit for Ella. . .

I am Obsessive - Compulsive. I admit it, not proud of it but it is what it is.

I signed up yesterday for the TinyTreasures Big Give. I finished the outfit today (mostly, I just have to hand sew on the buttons.) I am hoping that mom was right when she said Isabella loves Pink.:cutie: :cutie: :cutie:

th_PinkMickey003.jpg

The rick rack looks straighter in person but looks wonky here.

The back of the a line matches the pink polka dot pants.

Sorry about the huge pictures.

So cute! I LOVE all the pink!

Tracie - that red wish logo is fabulous!

Heather - I said a prayer for Jenny. I hope that they have found some way to make her comfortable and get some answers soon. I hope you are able to go and be with her today. I'm sure it would mean the world to her to have you there.

Wendy - Great news for Daniel! I will continue to keep him and your family in my prayers. Prayers too for your friend, I can not imagine how devastated she must be right now.

Hey all I need some serious prayers and a miracle
My dh lost his job in oct (still does not have one Even with a bachelors degree in acct and going to school for his masters in HR) Ironic Huh?
we had to file for Chapt 13 (due to some serious identity theft )
and now just today we got our eviction notice on our house , we have to be out by feb 2nd . we are behind 3 months on our mortgage (which at this point they were supposed to be working things out for us )

I am at a loss and i just want to curl in a ball ..

I have absolutely nowhere to go esp. with a family of 7 .
i am so sorry to come here and vent but i really needed to say something .

Please pray for some kind of miracle, Not for me but for my 5 children. I feel horrible even asking because i know there are better places that need your prayers

I tried to start a etsy shop and sell what i could but without money for fabric and findings that makes it hard, Plus i know the economy is so horrible....
My kids know that something is up but don't know exactly what it is ...
Life is just a rollercoaster for me right now ...

Praying for you guys Misty! You will get through this! One day at a time.

Newbie here--I am in total awe of your work!:worship: You guys have some awesome stuff on here. I guess I'm going to have to start sewing for DD3 & DD1--I haven't sewed anything serious since middle school. Any easy stuff you can point me towards???

As far as the carseat issue--I have a Britax Marathon & Frontier. I love the Britax! The frontier is heavier & a little unwieldy if you transfer between cars a lot.

Welcome!! For patterns check out youcanmakethis.com. We love their patterns, especially the ones written by CarlaC. They very versatile and the e-books are so clear and detailed with many tips and tricks.

This is probubly a simple question, but do you have to have a special machine to applique? and how do you applique?

Heather has a fabulous applique tutorial. Check the first post in this thread, I'm sure it's there somewhere.

Hi girls :)

I just want to tell you what awesome outfits you all make! :worship:

I have a 4 month old DD & would LOVE to figure out how to make her a couple of outfits like the beautiful ones here (especially for her first trip to WDW in December! :goodvibes ) I just found your thread & have started to look at your photobucket pics - I LOVE this outfit!

PinkMickey002.jpg

And this skirt:
IMG_2639-1.jpg

I have a sewing machine & have made some hanging wall size decorative quilting items & pillows before, but have never made any clothing items really. Can you girls tell me if there is a particular pattern to follow for items similar to the ones above? Are they in the bookmark section? Or can you direct me to a particular pattern to buy at Michael's/Joann's?

Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!! :goodvibes

Welcome! Check out my advice above! I would say that first outfit is CarlaC's A-line top and Easy fit pants. And the skirt could be made as a simple variation of any of the YCMT skirt patterns.

I love the pink with white polka dots. I know it's from Joann's but mine never seems to have it in stock. If someone wouldn't mind, would you get me the code on it if you happen to see it. Thanks!
I've got the pink dots. My daughter is a pink freak. LOL Let me find what the selvege says......well that's odd....there is NOTHING on the selvege edge on any of the big dot fabric. :confused3 Sorry!

Be sure to use a good paper. My favorite is the paper from HewlettPackard. I just go to the website and order it. I think you get 3 for the price of 2 and free shipping and you get it in just a couple of days. Wash your tshirt first without any fabric softeners.

Thanks! I looked for some at Joanns yesterday and I couldn't find it. I didn't even think of going right to their website.

For anyone who has bought online/downloaded embroidery or applique designs.... Who do you like to buy from? Where do you shop?

I have been looking at SWAK (got link from YCMT) and but I am hoping to find more of this type of thing.

Thanks
I order from http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/default.aspx all the time. Sometimes they run really great deals. I also order from http://www.designsbyjuju.com/ Hers are really cute for kids.

Prayers going out to you!

I have been on the fence with this one too - should I or shouldnt I?????????????
I say YES! Dh says NO! So for the time being his vote wins. But come payday I have a feeling I'll get it. :rotfl2:

Im considering purchasing the bundle with the raglan shirt, bowling shirt and easyfit pants - but i already have the easy fit pants, so they said i could replace it with another carla c pattern,,,,which one? ( i have the aline, portrait peasant, stripwork twirl and easyfit pants).....thoughts?

I didn't know you could swap out patterns in the bundle packs! Hmmmmm.......
:)
You know my DH is real supportive of my sewing also. He is the one who talked me into getting the machine that does embroidery. I was just going to get a plain one. The only thing that bugs him is that I keep buying fabric. He doesn't understand my obsession with fabric.

LOL!!! Well I've definately got a keeper! He actually encourages my fabric hoarding!!!!!! I went to joanns and walmart yesterday and I got about $90 :scared1: worth of fabric!!!! I'm now the proud owner of pink dots, red dots, orange dots, blue dots, yellow dots, black dots, tink, cars, strawberry shortcake and hannah montana fabric! Oh and of course the cars if for him for a shirt! LOL
I am almost done, I promise!

Megan had been asking for some "button up flannel pajamas" so I made a matching set for her and Emily. I used CarlaC's bowling shirt pattern and just extended the arm length. It was very easy!

Thanks for letting me share!

Adorable!

My mom would so love this apron. Did you use a pattern? If so, which one?

Yes, I used Mccall's 5720. It had 2 patch pockets on the side, so I modified it a little to make the full pocket across the front. Also, that one os not reversible so I basically made 2 and attached them.

Thanks! Megan is not too into ruffles and frills, but she loves the Vida. This is the 2nd one I've made for her and I'm sure I will get lots of use out of the pattern.

Finally uploaded pictures of the christmas dress I made for Hannah. Sorry that I am so late. Thank you to Jen for the bows. I was stunned at how beautiful they are!
I had some trouble with the smocked insert. I think it would have gone better had I redrafted the top of the pattern to be straight. I didn't think of that until I was too far in! it was really hard getting the seam allowance to lay correctly so it wouldn't make my top row of smocking look crooked. In the end I just gave up and let it be crooked. :headache:

I was thinking about you and this dress the other day :) I'm so glad you posted pictures. I'm glad the bows worked so well for you. This dress is ADORABLE. I've been anxious to see the feliz with a smocked insert and it really came out great!!! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I must be crabby this morning because I really need to vent about the bus stop! It has been building for a week or so and it isn't just me!

So, the bus comes at 6:55, not a big deal. It is cold, we go out, stand there and wait. There is another boy who now rides the bus, just started the past 3 weeks or so since his mother got laid off. The first week they walked to the bus stop about 1/2 the time, now they just stand at the end of their drive way waiting for the bus to pick them up.

Now, why am I aggitated? Because the bus stop is one house to the right of us (the one we go to) and the other is one house to the left, BUT if we went to the other one I could totally watch the bus drive by, go down and turn around and then go outside instead of standing in the cold. Wouldn't that be great! Yep, sure would! Of course the ISSUE is that this is NOT a bus stop!!!! And he is not supposed to wait there but come to the REAL bus stop!

Thanks for listening.

Jessica, call the bus depot. Either they need to use proper stops or you just stand wherever is convenient for you and let the bus come to you. They either need to make the other student adhere to the proper stop or let you pick a location that's convenient for you. It wouldn't be fair to accommodate one and not the other.

Help me figure out how to get PINK finger nail polish out of a Brand New Gymbo shirt.:scared1:

YES!!! The 2yr old struck again!:sad2:

Anything really. Helpful, right? :) I have almost all of CarlaC's patterns including the stripwork jumper am considering the simply sweet, I just don't know if they're too little girl. KWIM? I am sure they are NOT, but I'd love to see some pics of older girls in them for ideas. THANKS!

Does anyone know where you can get a pattern to make a shopping cart cover?
Best bet is to go to Joann's when they have the $.99 Simplicity patterns. They actually have a couple of choices.

This is beautiful! I never would have known that the smocking was crooked so Shh, don't tell anyone! Great job!

It's -30 here today with the windchill. Ugh.

I'll have plenty of time to comment the latest creations, after I drop the kids off at school (it's indoor recess all this week, so they'll be climbing the walls . . .) I'm lighting a fire in the fireplace, hunkering down with a HUGE coffee and dreaming of Disney!

Stephanie

Hmm, I am so glad it is 61 here today! Wow is that cold! I am surprised there is school even with indoor recess. Frigid!

I think all husbands do not understand the need to hord fabric!!!!:lmao:

My DH is really annoyed by my stash. That is why I'm going to post pictures of fabric this afternoon over on the swap site so I can get rid of some of it!

Just shy of -40 here (which is the same in Celcius and Farenheit), and school busses were cancelled as it was too cold for them to start. DH is home with them and the fire is burning.

OMG I cannot imagine being that cold. I honestly don't think I would leave my house!

Thanks! I love freebies! If nothing else I use them for when we travel. I'm cheap like that!

I want to make the raglan hoodie for my nephew. I bought some flannel fabric to use, is there anything I need to know to do different since I'm using flannel? I've never made this pattern so any help would be appreciated!

Love the outfits! That hat is so cute, too bad it's a pain to make!

I never did post them last April. You all inspired me to learn to sew and applique. I think I did ok for a first timer!

Here are the outfits I made DD for Disney World. I can't wait to get started for this trip.

Doesn't someone's DH work at wal-mart?

Mine is thinking of responding to an IT ad for Bentonville.

I am about to post some things I made for my DD who just turned 8. I hope you like them.

:sad1:

The cute pink top is CarlaC's a-line pattern from youcanmakethis.com, the pants are her easy fit pants, same place. They are great. Carla's directions are wonderful so I'm sure transitioning from quilting and pillows would be easy. I made the red and white dot skirt without a pattern. It is easy and I have made similar skirts for babies as little as yours, so when you're ready, PM me, let me know how long you want to make it and I will send you directions.

Thanks so much for your help & the offer to send me instructions on your cute skirt! :goodvibes

I know JHAM answered your question already but www.youcanmakethis.com has lots of fantastic patterns that you will see time and time again on here used in various ways.

Thanks! I've already been there to check things out! :thumbsup2

:welcome:!! There are tons of great tutorials in the bookmarks. There's a link to them in the very first post in this thread and in my signature. CarlaC wrote a great pattern for twirly-type skirts on www.youcanmakethis.com called perfectly preppy skirts and skorts. It's well worth the money. You'll get instructions on how to make lots of different types of skirts.

Thanks! I'll have to check out the tutorials when I get some "free" time this weekend - my 4 month old doesn't like to nap & keeps me on my toes most of the day! LOL ;)

Check out the bookmarks for some ideas. And, of course CarlaC's patterns on http://www.youcanmakethis.com are great!

Thanks! :goodvibes

Welcome! Check out my advice above! I would say that first outfit is CarlaC's A-line top and Easy fit pants. And the skirt could be made as a simple variation of any of the YCMT skirt patterns.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome & great advice so far! :goodvibes I went to YCMT & ordered a 3 pack of designs - the A-line top/dress, Simply Sweet tops/dresses & the Scallopini Twirl Skirts. Hopefully, that'll get me going! I pulled my sewing machine out of the closet today & also found my bin of fabrics (mostly just left over quarters) & I'm going to see if I can scrounge up enough fabric to experiment with one of these new patterns. I defintely need to practice before making Disney outfits! ;)

How far in advance do you all normally make your outfits for WDW trips? My trip is still 11 months away, so I have plenty of time, but I'm concerned if I make stuff too far out it won't end up being the right size - how do you handle that?

Also, not sure if I just haven't seen it on the first page yet - is there someplace to download or buy some of the applique mickey head patterns? TIA! :)
