Looking at pictures, I've always thought that the raglan would require a fabric that is stretchier than flannel. Am I wrong? (To go over heads)

I was afraid of this! Carla, if you're around, could you give us some advice? Thank You!

I was bad today and went and bought new Valentine's Day material. I just wasn't in love with what I had so I went to Hancock's and bought new fabric. Now I have to take back the fabric I didn't like that well to Joann's :rolleyes1 I'm just not as good at returning as I am at buying! At least my DH is out of town until Friday so he won't see the new addition to my fabric stash right away!

I had a question for those of you who do the rag quilts. I saw the directions in the bookmarks........are those the ones that everyone is using? Since I've never done anything like this before I want to make sure I do it right! Also, if I am using cotton as the "front" side, do most of you use flannel as the back side and the middle? And I want mine to be "throw" size for my girls (I'm apparently crazy and going to do three of them), any ideas how big that is? I guess I should go look it up on a blanket, huh?

How often do your machines jam up? I seem to have at least one major 'issue' per project- sometimes two. DH wants to know if that's normal, or if it's because I'm using a relatively inexpensive machine. (or cheap thread)

I really don't know because the machine I learned on as a kid was older than dirt. I don't remember it jamming like this though?

Check your bobbin. Sometimes they get old and have a burr in it. I've had that cause jamming problems. Cheap thread can do it to. But I use the serger thread alot. So that doesn't always have to be the case. Can you figure out how to take your bobbin casing out? You might have a peice of thread stuck down in there somewhere that keeps giving you trouble.

For anyone who has bought online/downloaded embroidery or applique designs.... Who do you like to buy from? Where do you shop?

I have been looking at SWAK (got link from YCMT) and but I am hoping to find more of this type of thing.

Thanks

I've purchased most of my designs from http://stores.ebay.com/Tigerlilyhill-Embroidery-Designs. I've purchased probably 70 or so designs from her. She is nice to work with and only one time did I have a problem. I just dropped her an email and she corrected it. She offers bundle packs that make it a little bit cheaper. I been buying from her for about a year and a half.

I like TigerLily also. I like to buy from MissMaryMack. She left :wizard: and went to Etsy.

Please pray for some kind of miracle, Not for me but for my 5 children. I feel horrible even asking because i know there are better places that need your prayers

I can't imganine that a Mortgage company is really going to want your house. Specially in this market. So hopefully something will come through. We are getting into tax season. Can DH do some "side" work? Even putting a sign on the board at your local grocery store. You'd be surprised at the people that read those.

Thoughts and prayers are with you!!

I never did post them last April. You all inspired me to learn to sew and applique. I think I did ok for a first timer!

Here are the outfits I made DD for Disney World. I can't wait to get started for this trip.

Then, I made this one for her first day of Kindergarten.

Everything is wonderful!!

I was looking at Hancock fabrics website and I was trying to figure out what kind of nylon I would need to buy to make a petti-skirt. Does it have a certain name? Does it have to be 100% nylon or the nylon poly blend?

LisaZoe directed me to TheatreHouse.net for Nylon Chiffon. It came pretty quick and worked great. I want to make Kirsta another one. I've no clue what for, but I just want to. :confused3

I have a friend who wants a quilt made out of her old sorority t-shirts. She will pay whoever but I have no idea how to do it. Anyone interested? PM me if you are! Thanks!

I have no time to help out. But there are patterns for these. I made one with my old Disney Shirts that I didn't wear any longer, but couldn't part with becuase I loved them. I'll have to break down and take a picture of it. You back the tshirt with a knit interfacing.

I've tried to explain it to him and he just doesn't get it. My arguments were, "I don't have anything like this," "If I have the fabric on hand then I will be able to sew anything at anytime," "It saves time to have all kinds of fabric on hand," "What if I need to make something for someone with no notice?" None of these worked on him.

Why don't you start to cut down his shirts, in his presence. When he asks what your doing, just tell him your out of fabric. In fact, use his favorite shirt!!

Okay, I know I could browse the bazillion pictures on photobucket, but I doubt any of the pics are categorized for what I'm looking for...

Would any of you mind posting pics of your customs for 6-8 year old girls? I see a lot of stuff on here that's so cute, but a lot of it is for the younger crowd. I'm trying to think ahead of what my DD will want to wear when we go next October.

THANKS!

I'd love to show you, but something is going on with Shutterfly. I'll try again later. Is there something in particular your looking for?

Thanks!

Best bet is to go to Joann's when they have the $.99 Simplicity patterns. They actually have a couple of choices.

I had to get the Fairie pattern. I just might need it someday. And Kirsta isn't even in this size range anymore.

Doesn't someone's DH work at wal-mart?

Mine is thinking of responding to an IT ad for Bentonville.

I have a friend that work at a WM in Maryland. She loves it there. In her store, she says they think the world of you. She was there a short time when her mother passed away and had to go home to another state. She said they never gave her a hard time, and did everything they could for her.

I haven't tried these myself, but I have read that hairspray and a toothbrush or bug spray and a toothbrush.
Good luck, let us know what works.

I don't know about nailpolish. But anything with alchol in it is good for a stain. Like hairspray, babywipe.....

I got my sewing machine today so I'm trying to work on several "half finished" projects. I finally hunted down the last piece of bias tape I needed. Three stores later and I'm done with Lily's Small World skirt. I'll eventually get her to model it. I need someone to make some bows for me now! I bought ribbon but I sit and look at it and think maybe not. Have I mentioned I love finding a shirt I like and then making a skirt to match it? :rotfl:

That is adorable! I love this outfit. Great job.

Im so bummed. DH gets to go to a trade show in Miami Feb 2-4 and I dont get to go. ;( He says we have too many bills to be adding extra expenses. I NEED sunshine!!
I bought an amaryllis about 3 weeks before Christmas and I have tried moving it, etc, but despite all the windows in my house, theres just not enough sun for it to grow- I feel like Im wilting too. I hear more snow is in the forecast for tomorrow morning. I never know what site to use- one says 2-4", another says 1" total. My first day back to our women's studies program at church is tomorrow and if schools are delayed, our program is cancelled. ;(
I look so forward to it too- they offer about 6 different classes for women, offer childcare for kids, with their own full program of tumble room, crafts, story time, guitar player. About 250 Moms come to it, and it meets for 14 weeks- no make up days either. ....sigh....

I sure wish I could go to Florida right now!

Jeanne, Lily is going to be the best dressed girl at Disney in February! Well.... except for Leighanna!
No seriously, that is just BEAUTIFUL!

Crystal- thanks for that! My husband is a big End Times guy- loves to watch whatever is on tv on it, read about it, etc. I love the idea of using fabric as currency- not sure Im ready to make clothes for others- I could do it for kids, but adult clothing is so unappealing to me. I would do quilts/blankets, but probably a fair amount of women out there who do that.
Well me you and Teresa can sew for everybody's children in exchange for food.:lmao:

Sally you are going to end up getting me in trouble if I cut up one of DH's shirts. I keep asking him for this one T-shirt in particular. It is black and says Rock Band on it. It is too small for him, but he won't let me cut it and turn it into a shirt for Jenna. Jenna is a big time Rock Band fan.

I contacted the seller of the Donald Duck applique just a week or so after i purchased the first one. He/She said she had no more and wasn't sure where to get another on.
For those not familiar with the awesome pre-made Donald Duck applique I tripped upon on Ebay last summer.

My favorite all time outfit!

I need opinions please:

Here's my vote.

I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!! Did ya miss me?!?!?!?
And just in time! We need all the bodies we can cram into WI to keep warm!

I love all of the things that have been posted today. Jeanne that Small World outfit is too cute. I love that shirt. Is it store bought or did you make it?

I am so glad that you guys understand my obsession with fabric. I used the fabric as currency argument on DH and he just rolled his eyes. Then I told him if Nostradamus' prophecies come true then I will be able to make clothes in exchange for food. :lmao:He didn't buy that either.

He'll see! I hope you have pleanty of Minnie Dot stocked up!

That is SOOOO not fair!!! You need sunshine!

Jham, where did you get the little people in the skirt? That is so beautiful!

It just now occurred to me that having all your beautiful kids at disney in their beautiful customs at the same time is going to give some poor mother a complex that didn't know there was such a thing as customs!

Thanks everybody. Great idea Teresa, to look at your pics. Duh, don't know why I didn't think of that. Off to search photobucket...

I made my Wild Minnie dress for Becca's Big Give. She requested it. I was worried that the ruffles on the back would be uncomfortable sitting on all day, so I modified it so that it was just strips. I think it turned out pretty good that way. Plus, that's a lot easier than ruffles!

I like these sleeves a lot better than the ones Lydia picked out for hers!

Love the jammies, I used the same material to make robes for my boys for Christmas!

Sorry about the weird picture, my kiddos wouldn't hold still long enough to take a good one!

Those boys are so cute!

I absolutely love this! My daughter is a bit of a chicken when it comes to rides, well most things really. Anyway, she loves, talks about, plans to go on again this ride! I never even thought of making something like this. Thanks for a possible inspiration!

Thanks everyone for your nice compliments! As Benita mentioned I did buy the shirt from Chasing Fireflies. I think there are a lot of "Disney Couture Babies" around here!:thumbsup2 The fabric is a hard to find Alexander Henry print. I bought it quite a while ago on :wizard:

I have a couple of rag quilt throws. We make them about 5 squares by 7 squares and cut the squares between 10 and 12". If you are using cotton on the front using flannel for the back and middle would be a good idea, that way it will fray better. The cotton does not fray as nicely as the flannel.

Jenny update:

I was so worried today because I kept calling and couldn't contact anyone!! I finally heard from her husband and they just discharged her from the hospital. They did the laproscopic exploratory thing and they didn't find anything. So, they are assuming this was a really bad infection. He said she was feeling better, but he said she was "out of it" and couldn't talk. So, I'm wondering how she's going to do at home without the IV drugs. I'm still worried that they may not have found out what is wrong. Hopefully I'll be able to talk to her tomorrow and get the real scoop.

Thank you all so much for the prayers. :grouphug::hug:

Okay, now I'm going to try and catch up.

I love this one Teresa!! and shhhhh! I like these sleeves better too.
I just love the animal safari sash!

Okay I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about this Feliz dress pattern, because the directions are paltry and I am a directions girl! I can sew or cook just about anything if I have good directions, with out them, well it's a bit like not having a brain. (unless I make the recipe from scratch!) Anyway, i digress....
I have only found 2 tutorials online- 1 by Studio Tantrum and I find the photos blurry and pitiful.
and the other by Trillium, a blogger, hers a better.
So, I have the pattern all traced and cut out onto PatternEase and I layed my overdress fabric out on my dining room table. With my pelvic bone not cooperating I have to do this is stages. Tomorrow will be cutting out fabric.
I am also going to pull out my camera and try and do a pic tutorial, so if anyone else on here needs it, it will be available- that's assuming I get thru this!

Is anybody else reading Stephenie Meyer's The Host? I just started it (trying to appease myself with it instead of rereading the twilight sage a 4th time)
Im not as in to The Host, so far its a bit, eh, for me. Kind of sci-fi and I had an awful dream last night that I think was from out of the book (I wont go into details, it was a very scary dream) but lets just say it has to do with trying to remove a "soul" from my head!! Ack!

You wouldn't believe how hard I tried to talk Lydia out of picking that fabric to begin with! I found it a bit freaky looking! Then, she wanted it on the SLEEVES! :scared1: I had always wanted the zebra for the sleeves, so I was happy that I got to make it the way I wanted to!

OOh, I hope you get your tutorial done! I don't own the pattern, but I want to someday!

I LOVE this site: http://pegasus-embroidery.com/

They also sell on eBay.

I bought a couple designs from them yesterday and they are really cute!

I posted yesterday hoping someone might be able to help me figure out how to print out the designs I downloaded from Pegasus on my computer printer so that I could cut them out, put the fusible web on them and then hoop and applique them. I have appliqued before but I am not as good as all of you!! The tutorial was wonderful, btw. As are the bookmarks. I went through all of them yesterday too.

Hopefully someone can help me?

Do I need to have something to unzip the designs that I downloaded? I can save to my memory stick, put it in the embroidery machine and then it will stich out but then I would have to cut that out as a template to cut the applique. It seems like a waste of fabric and thread.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need something like embird or PE-Design to open the design and print it out as a template? Help???

Thank you!
