I feel terrible for those affected by the pool closure. I think it's super lame for them to do something so "last minute"..... and no, 2 months technically isn't "last minute" but it is in the land of Disney where they want you to have your plans mapped out to the minute 6 months in advance. And during Free Dining to boot so there's not much alternative availability left. I would be pitching a fit for sure. But, I lucked out this time as we check out 9/1 !

Here is a copy of the letter for reference (credit to Tikiman via his Facebook page)...

Yes, it's kind of disappointing. BUT, we hadn't actually planned to go this year at all. Now we are. There is still a pool to use at WL PLUS we can swim at the pools at CR (which looks like it has a great slide) and FW. Most of our time will be at the parks or water parks.

All in all, it would be nice for it to not happen on our trip, but it has to happen sometime. AND, WE WILL STILL BE IN DISNEY, yay!

Can someone explain to me what construction is going on here? Thanks!

The above letter sums it up pretty good, but an even quicker summary - the main pool (Silver Creek Springs) at Wilderness Lodge will be undergoing construction from September through November.

Im thinking of keeping res. And see if some pixie dust doesnt mix in with the construction dust and we get upgraded with the other cancels......wed take the yellowstone suite :)

My exact thought process!!!!!

Well, my six night stay at the Boardwalk has turned into a 3/3 split with WL. I just had to stay at my #1 resort.

The only room category, with the best discounted price, was a woods view bunk bed room. Can anyone tell me how this type of room compares to a regular, 2 queen bed room?

The bunk beds are next to the wall where the sink is located. They have space between the wall and the beds. My DDs love love love the bunk beds. I think the rooms re the same in every other way. There is a small light above each of the bunk beds too. Have a great stay!

I don't think we can get an upgrade unless they move us to CL since we are already in a CV room and we don't need bunk beds. However we really want a lake view so we are keeping our reservation in hopes that the competition for that particular view is less and we get good sightlines to the lake.

We do not pool much. Sometimes we will do a hot tub but honestly I've never been overly fond of WDW hot tubs so I rarely even bring a suit.

I am not sure how I would feel about an upgrade. I might take a CL upgrade, I mean if the view were the same I'd be tempted, but I'm not sure some free food (almost all of which I can't eat due to allergies) would sway me to a CL standard if that were offered. I'd have to see what was offered at the time and if my mom wanted it.

So just I'll just hope for a view that I like and an upgrade would be gravy.

We are returning to the WL in two weeks:cool1:! Does anyone know if the screening will be down around the creek?

So we have accepted and embraced the pool closure. We have a chance for a 1 bedroom Villa. Currently booked for bunk bed courtyard. Is it worth the cost to change to Villa or stay the course and stay in the room we have?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you feel you would be pressed for space in a single room, I'd prefer to be in the main building (and save the $). If you would get a lot extra out of having a separate bedroom, then it might be worth it for you to walk further to VWL. Even with pool construction we like being in the main building.

I am sticking with my nov ressie. It is the tale end of the pool Reno so I can reassess before PIF and switch them if it seems behind schedule. Fingers crossed. 3 mths is a long time to Reno a pool!

I have a trip planned for September to WL, but by absolute miracle I find myself also with one night booked in July at WL! Not just any day in July, but July 4th!!

Any WL vets stayed at the lodge before for July 4th? Any activities that go on? Can you see the fireworks pixiedust: from the beach?

The beach does not look over toward the MK, the only public area on property that can see the fireworks to any extent is the far end of the parking area (I am told), but the view is not that good. Your best bet is to take a boat over to the Poly to watch. I've also heard watching from the monorail is good too.

We're there starting next week and when member services called me to ask if there was anything they could do for me (meaning, can we get you to spend more money?) I asked about the lobby/stream/waterfall fountains. MS had no clue about the refurbishments and called over to the hotel to ask about it. She was given a rather obscure time frame to report back (Start of July to start of August), so although I'd love it if they're turned on again, I'm not counting on them being done.

11 days in a 340 has me a bit concerned. DD is outgoing and social and loves to play and interact, but is also and introvert by nature and gets her energy from some quiet alone time. (same as her mummy and daddy) I also love the idea of the washer and dryer and running a load at night before bed, sorting it in the morning, and then off to activities. (I think I might be answering my own questioning here)

I have a hard time justifying the cost, and if it were a 5 or 6 day trip, no question, we would stay in the main lodge. But, with 11 days, I just wonder if that might cause some claustrophobia. :)

Thanks! I guess we will walk to Ft. Wilderness for a partial view there, or join the crowds at the Contemp! Appreciate your help!

My DD12 is also an introvert. She likes having the top bunk as her little haven. She has her iPad mini, a book, drawing supplies and she's fine. We have done it for 10 days and it was fine. Laundry would be nice, though!

We have stayed in the villas at the BC and the villas are wonderful. I loved the extra space, the full kitchen and the washer dryer. Plus, the master bedroom has a king size bed and the bathtub has a whirlpool.

The beach at the WL has a pretty good view. You can see the high fireworks and hear the booms. They are visible from FW, too, but since the distance is greater the fireworks look smaller. I would just stay at WL or better yet, go to the CR's 4th floor observation deck. :)

We've received a letter from Disney today, telling us about the pool enhancement during our upcoming visit. It was nice of them to mail a letter. It said we could use the pool at the CR or FW. and the letter said that the work was scheduled to run from early Sept to late November.
