I'm thinking about switching from YC to WL because our 13 year old has decided he wants to stay with his mom instead of go to Disney. Being in the Magic Kingdom resort area would be helpful since we spend a lot of time at MK and eating at the monorail line resorts. We would be in a standard room. My question is since standard rooms are either king, 2 queens or a queen and bunk beds, are they bookable categories or just room requests?

Standard (non club level) rooms have five different bookable categories: standard view, woods view, woods view bunk beds, courtyard view, and courtyard view bunk beds. King beds in all views and bunks in standard view are by room request only.

Also, for completeness bunk beds are by room request only on club level as well.

Happy planning and enjoy your trip.

5144 is in the South Wing facing the Villas, making it a Woods View room. Here's a picture from the balcony: http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/DEDHead/media/P1000067_zps0fe374c7.jpg.html And from the walkway between the Lodge and the Villas: http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/DEDHead/media/WildernessLodgeRoom5144_zpsa90ba6ae.jpg.html
According to the bookable category info, rooms on the East end of the South wing on the South side are "Villas Courtyard View". Since some people prefer a CV room that overlooks the main courtyard and pool, they then choose to request "Inner Courtyard".

With the main pool renovation, I expect that these rooms may be a more desirable CV location for a while for some guests.

Are they harder than say the Poly or BC beds?? I always found them comfortable at those 2 resorts, but then again, those are the only 2 we've tried so far...2 new ones this trip - POR and WL

We've stayed at the WL and the BC this past year and thought that the BC bed was harder than the WL bed. I really like the WL beds.
:)

Wondering about the distance to walk to the villa quiet pool? Short walk? (I will have a 6, 3,2 y/o with me ). And from the pictures I have seen.. Just a basic rectangle small pool?

The villas pool is a lot closer to the south wing than the north wing. The villas pool is not just a plain rectangular pool. It is a very lovely clover leaf shaped pool with bubbling springs that you can float in. The pool area is very shady and there is a hot tub there, too. I think the villas pool is one of the nicest quiet pools on the property and it is my favorite pool. :)

I know some people were looking for CL rooms. An available room just popped up for Nov 14-20 on the CL level with free dining.

Nothing else has opened yet, which make me think the news about the pool has not gotten to everyone.

Thanks, GrandCalifornian. That's what I was thinking. Trying to minimize the damage of the pool refurb with a specific room request.

Just subscribed to this thread and caught up on the posts. Thank you for all the great information.

We stayed at VWL in 2012 for Thanksgiving week with the whole family (ages 7- 75) and absolutely loved it!!! It definitely became our favorite resort and the holiday decorations are just perfect. The canyon fireplace and national park theme inspired us to travel to the Grand Canyon this coming Thanksgiving and stay at the historic El Tovar on the south rim.

Where I am really looking forward to the Grand Canyon, I think I am the most excited that the family just decided T-day 2015 will be back at VWL, which will also be my 40th. I guess that officially makes me a crazy, obsessed Disney fan to look past GC to VWL. Oh well, I've accepted it and hope I have company here :)

Just DW, DD, and I leave for CBR in 18 days but I'm glad to know we have our next trip to WDW in the works. I hope they bring back the Osbourne Family Dancing Lights another year, my personal favorite.

We will be at WL the exact same dates and decided to stay put. We are doing a split stay too and figure we will leave most of our pool time for the other resort. Plus I'm hoping the lack of main pool will mean less people and more quiet for me ; )

Good point, we could do pool time in our first half of our stay @AKV. It will be our first stay there and heard the pools are great. Then when we are at WL we can hit up MK more, and enjoy going over to CR to ride monorails. WLV pool is small, but it's better then no pool at all. Still very sad about refurb, no one likes to see pardon our pixie dust signs...

Have an amazing trip!!! I get the 2015 trip planning prior to the 2014 vacation. We already have 4 nights books at BWV for May 2015 (Star Wars Weekend!!!) b/c I am THAT person.

I agree about those lights...we saw them for the first time last year and I was BLOWN away.

And the Grand Canyon, Wow!!! Enjoy that trip as well. I can't wait to take my kids on the great American cross country road trip.

we didn't have CL, but we had a room, crtyd view with FD for Sept 1-7 that I cancelled a few days ago if anyone is interested.

Hi Everybody! I am joining in late from the West coast as well. Thanks so much Kook for posting the thread and all your work conveying useful information.

I can't wait to visit WL in September, just 84 days away... :thumbsup2

Very much looking forward to your next trip report! :)

Very nice pic! :goodvibes

Hi all...just got back home on Monday from an excellent trip to WDW and WL. We were in room 5144, a Woods View w/ Bunk Beds. I was wondering if anyone else finds the WL beds as horrible as we did. The mattresses are rock hard with no pillow top and the pillows are flat with no support.

I travel a fair amount on business and found these to be the worst beds I have slept on in years. Did we just get an unlucky room with worn-out beds or are all the beds in WL as bad?

During our trip last summer, we found the WL beds to pretty much be the most comfortable ever!:thumbsup2

We received an official letter from Wilderness telling us that the main pool will be closed early September thru November. The quiet pool and hot tub will be open. We can use CR or FW pools during that time.

We are staying put and I think the CR pool slide looks like more fun for my DDs, 12 and 10. For us it's okay, but, like so many, I don't understand why they wouldn't do this during the winter months like the Water Parks are done.

Oh well, we love WL and look forward to our visit. It's been 5 years since we stayed there and the theming and boat to MK are our main reasons for coming back. Plus, DDs love a bunk bed room. That's why we like AKL rooms too!

I have a trip planned for September to WL, but by absolute miracle I find myself also with one night booked in July at WL! Not just any day in July, but July 4th!!

Any WL vets stayed at the lodge before for July 4th? Any activities that go on? Can you see the fireworks pixiedust: from the beach?
