Clomid users??

How many cycles on clomid did it take for you to get pregnant?

  • I got pregnant the very first month

  • Second month

  • Third month

  • Fourth month - starting to get discouraged

  • Fifth month - is this pointless?

  • Six month - I didn't think it was going to happen

  • Clomid didn't work for me

I took it for four months with no success (for my second child, my son we had after two years of "trying" on our own). We determined I probably rarely ovulate. Anyway, tried on our own for 6 months then tried clomid four months (with those fun monthly internal ultrasounds to see the folicles). Low and behold, the next month I was off clomid (in the middle of a move from Hawaii to Maryland with a couple months stopover in the midwest) and got pregnant!

My doctor said clomid is not very effective, and it does increase cancer risk, so I wouldn't have taken it much longer anyway. I didn't have any side effects at all.

Clomid did not work for me. My doctor would only allow 6 months. The last three months on it were with IUI and still didn't work. I used IUI with fertility shots to get pregnant for my first two pregnancies (two attempts for each pregnancy, 2nd pregnancy was twins). My third pregnancy was a complete surprise as my twins were 7 months old!

I used Clomid for my 2nd pregnancy. We had tried for over a year and my ovulation charts showed no ovulating so we did Clomid. It worked the first month. HTH!

I'm seeing an OBGYN, I'm really thinking about seeing a RE. I'm completely unmonitored on clomid, and it bugs me. If I do get a BFP this cycle, I'm going to be pushy about being more closely monitored. Finding out I was going to miscarry at 7 weeks when my levels never rose past 350 isn't OK. That should have been caught much sooner. :headache:

I'm just so afraid of going to new Drs, I wish getting pregnant didn't require so much intervention. :sad1:

I see you are in Chester County PA. I saw an RE in that area. He was great and so was his office staff. My first daughter was born in Chester County. Let me know if you would like the name of him if you decide to see an RE.

We tried everything...Clomid, IUI, injectibles, tubes "cleaned out", endo surgery. Everything but IVF. The night we sat down to talk about doing IVF vs. adoption, we got a call about DD6 (then 22mos.)! She came to our home 2mos. later and we adopted her 10mos after that.

Miracles happen!

Thanks for everyone sharing their stories. I'm so hopeful that it happens quickly. I was so excited when it did the first time around. Then this time around I thought I was ovulating because my cycles were actually pretty regular....but then I started charting to see and NOPE - anovulatory. DD is 5 - she'll be 6 November 1st. It took us a while to decide that we did want another child (and I wasn't just wanting another baby) and part of making the decision came down to timing - I didn't want to be much older than 35 (which I turned 35 yesterday) so it was time to decide to try or decide we weren't having another one. So we started trying about 5 months ago.

As far as being monitored on clomid. The first time around the doctor gave it to me and I went back and was pregnant. This time I go in to the doctor March 6th for all the blood work, etc....I'm not sure how closely she will monitor it. I didn't have any side effects to speak of the first time I used it and only had to take it that one cycle so who knows what she'll want to do this time...it's a new doctor

I got pregnant my first month on clomid but had a miscarriage and I'm now pregnant again after 5 months. This seems to be a sticky bean this time thankfully!

I got preggo on the 4th cycle, but then had a miscarriage. After the mc, my doc wanted me to take a couple of months off before starting Femara, but I got preggers w/DD a few weeks after the mc. I just finished my first round this past week, so here's hoping!!

I've done three rounds of Clomid (2 at 50 mg, 1 at 100 mg) and have not gotten pregnant. My OBGYN will only let me do 3 and then referred me to the RE. My appt. with him is 1 month away. Like some PP I have to take progesterone (as my body does not produce it--first test was a 0.8). I didn't have any side effects with the 50 mg, but with the 100 mg, I became a regular *itch. We'll see what the RE says. I also don't ovulate half the time without the Clomid and then there are months where it feels like I'm releasing two eggs (one from each side). I think my body is just confused. :confused3

I think that the most frusturating thing is waiting. You have to wait for the right time to begin Clomid, you wait to see if you are pregnant, now I'm waiting to see the RE. I just want to be pregnant! (sorry for the small rant)

Good luck with your journey and here's some baby dust!!!

I used it for six months before getting pregnant with my first son. It was horrible, side effect wise. In fact, it took more than four years to get rid of all of the androgenic side effects!

Amazingly, I had only one baby with the high dose of Clomid. I fully expected twins at the least! My SIL actually did have twins with Clomid (on the second cycle, after having two singles after the first dose each).

I did not use it with my second son as I had no desire to go through all of that again. We had given up hope when we found out I was pregnant with son #2 (my boys are 7 years, 4 months apart) and with no drugs!

I got a BFN this morning (10dpo) and I'm just not "feeling pregnant" the last few days, so I'm gonna call this cycle a bust. I felt pregnant for a few days, then nothing as of yesterday. I can't imagine *how* I didn't get pregnant because of the clomid and excessive BD'ing, but oh well. I am wondering if I should hold off another cycle until I use clomid again. I'm bummed.

Do you not use clomid on back to back cycles? I'm sorry if that is a really dumb question, but since my only experience with it was successful the first cycle I don't know.

I was on it 2 cycles and it didn't work. It was through my OB though and I wasn't monitored. Made me nervous so I went to an RE. Ended up needing IVF. It worked the first time.

I had a m/c with my first round, so I gave my body a month to recoup (Jan). Honestly, I just don't know otherwise. :confused3 I'm unmonitored, so I just do my best to make an informed decision and go from there. I'm thinking of asking my Dr. for 100mg because well, he had no problem giving me 4 months' worth of 50mg doses. :rolleyes1

I'm just so fed up with this infertility crap. :headache:

I got pregnant on the third month of Clomid... but I really did not like taking it. If felt awful for those three months... I swear I could feel my ovaries working overtime it hurt so much. I also blame the Clomid for my 6 weeks of bedrest at the hospital and a low birth weight. (but that is just my theory ) My DD was born at 35 weeks weighing at 4lbs, 1oz but otherwise perfectly healthy.

Luckily, for DS3 and DS1 they were conceived with no medication.

Good luck to all those still trying :grouphug:

? I have a question...?

Does unmonitered mean that you don't go in monthly before the doctor gives you the clomid, to make sure you don't have too many follicles that could possibly be released? I went to an Army doc, and she even was very picky about that. If she saw two follicles, I wouldn't have been given the clomid that month. It was a pain, but I felt it was a good decision on her part. Although the clomid didn't help, I didn't risk multiples. I assumed you always had to be monitered monthly when on such a medication to avoid the risk of multiples.

Yep, exactly that. The Dr. basically said, you know with clomid there's a risk of multiples, right? And I said "yep" and that was the end of that. I'd be OK with twins, sure. I'm hardly lucky enough to release *one* egg, so I can't think for a second that I'd be lucky enough to release two, nevermind having two fertilized.

After 1 1/2 years trying...one month on Clomid...got DS! When he was 11mo old went back on Clomid...3 months didnt work, went to RE, did injectables and IUI...has to only do it every other month, had cysts after each cycle....no pregnancy after 6 months...next up IVF....I had to have a break and :wizard: DS #2 was concieved. DS#3--totally a surprise.

Totally agree, see a RE, they fully check everything, monitor you...inbetween my first 2 I had 3 m/c(still seeing regular OB) once I went to the RE I found out ...I needed progesterone and aspirin...

Keep your head up...it is a long, frustrating road
