Civitavecchia disembarkation

Can anyone give an estimate of how long it will take to disembark, go through Italy's customs, etc. in Civitavecchia? I'm trying to plan a car service, but I don't know what time to tell them. Plus, I'm also trying to book a tour in Rome. Thanks in advance!

We didn't go through any customs in Civitavecchia in 2018. Not sure if that has changed or not. I had our car service pick us up at 9 AM. We had 2nd seating and were off the ship in plenty of time and had to wait a little bit for our car to arrive (not very long).

We were on a cruise that ended in Civitavecchia last Nov. We did not have to go through customs. We just exited the ship, walked through the terminal (we carried our own bags off the ship) and headed outside where our driver met us. Very easy and quick.

In central Europe you don't go through customs when you go from country to country. Its called the Schengen Area https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/schengen-visa-countries-list/

Schengen Area, signifies a zone where 26 European countries, abolished their internal borders, for the free and unrestricted movement of people, in harmony with common rules for controlling external borders and fighting criminality by strengthening the common judicial system and police cooperation.

All the countries on the Mediterranean cruise itineraries, Spain, France, Italy and Greece are part of Schengen Area.

If you're already in the EU, you don't need to clear anything. You just walk off. No idea how that's now going to work with cruises that start and/or end in the UK.

The UK has never been in Schengen Area so even though Brexit has now happened, the departure and arrival procedures will not change. I've only embarked in Civitavecchia, but it's good that you're planning on using a car service, that can pick you up at the ship. Civitavecchia is the only port in the world that I have been to that you have to take transportation from the ship to the exit. The cruise lines supply buses back and forth to the ship, because it is a VERY long distance from the entrance to the cruise ships. And I believe that you are not allowed to walk around inside the port area. Not all private transportation is allowed to drive inside the port. Make sure that whoever you book with is allowed, or you should plan on an extra half hour just within the port.

We were there in June. Got off the ship, picked up our luggage & just boarded the bus to leave for the airport. Easy peasy. The only bad thing was our flight took off at 5 pm & we were stuck at the airport for the whole day!

Most DCL cruises in/out of the UK have a final day at sea, so the UK immigration officers will have to come on board when the ship docks in the last port of call. They will likely fly in from the UK and then stay on board until disembarkation in, say, Dover. DCL will arrange for them to have full room and board on the ship. Pretty neat perk this free mini-cruise - if you ask me!

Typically, the officers will set up shop in the theatre during the day, processing individuals/families just like they would on land. You enter the theatre at one end and exit at the other. CMs process your key cards as you enter, and that's how they know who has been processed. Lineups aren't long - if any - unless you leave it till the last minute.
