City, Sand, and Savanna - Link to new trip report

Let's hear it for wonky DIS time-stamp software! :woohoo::cool1::banana:

I actually did edit it fairly quickly after my initial post when I realized the Judy smiley counted, too. But I have no idea how my edit time compared to the other posts. :confused3
Dang Mark! There you go sneaking those posts in ahead of me again!!! :(

(okay, this time I took the opportunity to quote your post in case you decide to edit it..........) ;)

The DIS smiled on you my friend. You can deduce for yourself, what it did to Marv. :rolleyes2

:sad2:
Well..........you're HALF right!!! :furious:

I call 'em like I see 'em. Or don't. :lmao:

I was informed after my initial complaints that the DIS does NOT put an edit time stamp on a post if you see an error and quickly correct it.

I've noticed that before, but guessed that it doesn't put a time stamp on if no one else entered the thread. Maybe that's not how it works.

The Rules Committee may not have seen a post with 4 (and also failed to initially include the reference to the Judy smiley at the end of their guess), but there are at least two of us who know the truth........ :rolleyes1

God and....?

You can't HANDLE the truth!!! :(

That was said to Tom Cruise, so therefore, I must look like Tom Cruise. :cool2:

Sometimes you have to realize when it is time to turn loose of some things and let the younger generation handle them. Seems this would be a good time to start that so you can relax a little.......... :lmao:

Look who's talkin'. :rotfl2:

You definitely have a valid point there........ Good thing Rosie doesn't work in a zoo with Orangutans!!! :rotfl2:

I'll let her respond to that!

Dang Mark! There you go sneaking those posts in ahead of me again!!! :(

That was perfect! :rotfl2:

The DIS smiled on you my friend. You can deduce for yourself, what it did to Marv. :rolleyes2
Well, I guess you can't win them all on the DIS...........shooting for the Grand Prize!!! :cloud9:
I've noticed that before, but guessed that it doesn't put a time stamp on if no one else entered the thread. Maybe that's not how it works.
:confused3
God and....?
I said "at least"
That was said to Tom Cruise, so therefore, I must look like Tom Cruise. :cool2:
:sad2:
I have GOT to learn that move.............:worship:
Well, he was #2. :rotfl2:
Oh THAT just stinks!!! :(
This chapter title sounds like the title to a “Bond” film, doesn’t it? Either that or a quote from Maya Angelou, I can't decide which. :rotfl2:
A quote from your WHAT????
Finally we arrived at the Today show area a little after 5 am. We kinda stood there awkwardly for a while because we didn’t know where we were supposed to go. Then this man with the Today show came up and talked to us. He told us we were supposed to wait over to the side of the show next to this lamp post. He also showed us exactly where we should stand if we wanted to be seen. We thanked him and went to stand near the pole.
Score!!! :cool1:
! And then Mom took my picture with Donna, just to remember her by. Oh, and she’s wearing a tiara because it’s her 50th birthday! How cool!

NYC2012192.jpg
Cool, a DIS, uh TOSHmeet!!!! :woohoo:
Finally, I caught my lucky break. Tamron and the other guy came out and they set up the cameras right in front of me. Literally. Like, I was right in between their shoulders and perfectly visible. Mom was blocked by Tamron and Donna was by the other guy,

IMG_0011.jpg
Okay, I'm sure some people didn't notice that Judy was behind Tamron.......but what I want to know is, why is Judy letting that tall man give her a scalp massage on national TV????

Great update Lauren, and so glad the plans finally came together! So cool that you were right in the middle of things, just like you hoped. What a great graduation present!!! :thumbsup2

BTW, -1 for Glenn and Mark for not claiming that easy A Few Good Men reference......

Caught up! :wave2: 2 plus 2 Judy's (I missed two updates)

The boat tour looks great. How every interesting. I must do that.

That sushi looks amazing! Yum!

Woo hoo for being on the Today show. :cool1: That's a great picture.

Lauren - Are you getting ready to leave for school soon? It's about that time of the year.

We can go through Safari, ie. the internet, and it looks like this…’cause it basically is. But through the app there’s no Options button. I haven’t figured out how to use the standard DIS smileys through the app, except for typing them out.

I have enough memorized that I just try to type them out if I feel I really NEED one. Even on the computer depending on which smilies show up to teh right I still have to either type or hunt.

Dang, my intuition was telling me that you were just getting back from a meeting. Sorry about that. ;)

Always seems like I am either coming or going. ;)

Yeah, I finally packed away the old VCR a couple of years ago. We still have some tapes boxed up, but it’d be a major pain to try to rig everything back up to actually watch them!

I am teetering with converting them to DVD but have not puuled the trigger on that yet.

Dang Mark! There you go sneaking those posts in ahead of me again!!! :(

(okay, this time I took the opportunity to quote your post in case you decide to edit it..........) ;)

There you go-

I do think you have a few minutes "grace" before you get the edited tingie.

The DIS smiled on you my friend. You can deduce for yourself, what it did to Marv. :rolleyes2

Maybe I should have said de-deuce instead of deduce.

:rotfl2: That's where I was going.

:rotfl: I think she got some texts saying the exact same thing!

It was pretty cool!

I know! It reminded me of waiting in a DisneyWorld line, making some new friends.

Dang, my intuition was telling me that you were just getting back from a meeting. Sorry about that. ;)

Hopefully she’ll be just as dedicated to her schoolwork!

Yeah, I finally packed away the old VCR a couple of years ago. We still have some tapes boxed up, but it’d be a major pain to try to rig everything back up to actually watch them!

I know you can protect recordings on the DVR, but it never occurred to me until it was too late.

Yes, if you can see aaaaany part of her, and you can definitely see her shoulders.

Correct! Thanks for playing. How’s the move coming along?

I’d like one on a blank check!

Yay! I actually got one (or 3 ) right! We are kind of in limbo now - thanks for asking. Everything is on schedule for Sept 16th. We are virtually all packed up and living in our travel trailer in real life. :goodvibes Jim is working on the endless amounts of government paperwork required to retire, and I have secured my current job as a telecommute so I'm pretty excited about that!:yay:

Blank Check from a college student? :lmao:

Great update, Lauren (and Glenn). So glad you and your Mom got seen on the Today Show...that had to be awfully exciting for you.

I was a couple of updates behind. We are getting ready for the big move to AL at the end of this month so I've been packing and getting rid of all of Mike's stuff. :lmao:

The boat to the Statue of Liberty is gorgeous. I love all the wood. The buildings all around are fabulous, too. NYC really is like no other.

The sushi pics look delish! I love sushi!!

How cool that Lauren and Judy were able to get such a great spot for the Today show. How awesome!! I'm glad you were able to take video of it before it was deleted by those horrible shows. :scared: Who knew you were into vampire diaries??!!! And don't try to push it off on the girls. :upsidedow

Is Lauren still giving out autographs? She is so photogenic! Your whole family is; it's disgusting, really!;) What a fantastic experience!

Holding my spot. Hopping on for your TR...for the first time I will have caught one of your reports in real time, as opposed to reading it after the fact after it is finished.

Look forward to catching up!;)

What a great spot that turned out to be. So fun to see people on tv that you know.

Great update.

Well, I guess you can't win them all on the DIS...........shooting for the Grand Prize!!! :cloud9:

There ya go.

Oh THAT just stinks!!! :(

Oh brother.

A quote from your WHAT????

Angelou.

Cool, a DIS, uh TOSHmeet!!!! :woohoo:

It did seem pretty cool.

Okay, I'm sure some people didn't notice that Judy was behind Tamron.......but what I want to know is, why is Judy letting that tall man give her a scalp massage on national TV????

Maybe he's a phrenologist? (Just thought it'd be fun to stick a big word in here.)

Great update Lauren, and so glad the plans finally came together! So cool that you were right in the middle of things, just like you hoped. What a great graduation present!!! :thumbsup2

She was veeery happy that it finally worked out!

BTW, -1 for Glenn and Mark for not claiming that easy A Few Good Men reference......

Well of course I saw it, but this isn't the right thread to "claim" it. :confused3

Caught up! :wave2: 2 plus 2 Judy's (I missed two updates)

I'm glad you're caught up Mary Elllen!

The boat tour looks great. How every interesting. I must do that.

That's right up your alley. ::yes::

Woo hoo for being on the Today show. :cool1: That's a great picture.

They had a ball.

Lauren - Are you getting ready to leave for school soon? It's about that time of the year.

Just dropped her off on Friday! Afterward, we drove up to visit our parents and drove back home today....got in a few hours ago. Yep, first one off to college -- it already feels weird around here.

I have enough memorized that I just try to type them out if I feel I really NEED one. Even on the computer depending on which smilies show up to teh right I still have to either type or hunt.

It's :crazy:though -- you shouldn't have to memorize 'em.

Always seems like I am either coming or going. ;)

:teleport:

I am teetering with converting them to DVD but have not puuled the trigger on that yet.

I copied all of our home movies over to DVD before I put the VCR away. The kids saw our wedding video during that process and thought it was the funniest thing ever! "You looked so young!" :rotfl2: "Ah, yeah, we used to be." :sad2:

I'm glad it's working out and things are in motion. I wish you well for the travel portion and getting acclimated to your new community. :goodvibes

Blank Check from a college student? :lmao:

Yeah, kind of a dumb comment I know. Any money that's there, I put there myself, anyway!

Great update, Lauren (and Glenn). So glad you and your Mom got seen on the Today Show...that had to be awfully exciting for you.

She loved it! I just heard from my mother-in-law this weekend that she was so excited seeing her on the TV screen that she found herself waving back :wave2: to Lauren and thinking "wait a minute...what on earth am I doing? She can't see me!" :rotfl:

i have no idea what you are talking about:snooty:

:rotfl2:

I was a couple of updates behind. We are getting ready for the big move to AL at the end of this month so I've been packing and getting rid of all of Mike's stuff. :lmao:

:rotfl2: Yes, if you have to lighten the load, make it Mike's stuff. :rotfl:

Like I just said to Tammie, who's also moving soon, I hope your move goes well and you have an easy time getting settled into your new digs. :goodvibes

The boat to the Statue of Liberty is gorgeous. I love all the wood. The buildings all around are fabulous, too. NYC really is like no other.

It was a really nice looking boat. I mentioned in an earlier reply that after I booked it I looked at the boat online and wasn't real sure it was the best choice...like, is it seaworthy? :scared: But it turned out to be perfect -- they loved it!

The sushi pics look delish! I love sushi!!

We do too. I turned Judy on to it (she'd said that she'd never eat it, now she loves it) and unfortunately we did too good of a job with the kids, trying new foods, and they love it too. Cha-ching. Mac and cheese and chicken fingers are so much easier on the wallet. :sad2:

How cool that Lauren and Judy were able to get such a great spot for the Today show. How awesome!! I'm glad you were able to take video of it before it was deleted by those horrible shows. :scared: Who knew you were into vampire diaries??!!! And don't try to push it off on the girls. :upsidedow

You're too funny Jen. :upsidedow

Is Lauren still giving out autographs? She is so photogenic! Your whole family is; it's disgusting, really!;) What a fantastic experience!

I've been accused of being disgusting, but never photogenic! :rotfl2: Good thing it's just Lauren and Judy in these chapters. :)

Holding my spot. Hopping on for your TR...for the first time I will have caught one of your reports in real time, as opposed to reading it after the fact after it is finished.

Look forward to catching up!;)

:welcome: cdotla! You're here in plenty of time...we still have NYC to finish up, then Vero, and finally on to WDW. I'm glad you found the thread and have joined-in! :yay:

What a great spot that turned out to be. So fun to see people on tv that you know.

Great update.

Thanks Scott. What a spot, huh? I was just expecting to see them for a second as the camera went past the crowd, not right-smack-dab in between the hosts! :faint:

"I've been accused of being disgusting, but never photogenic! :rotfl2: Good thing it's just Lauren and Judy in these chapters. :)"

Nonsense Glenn, I'm sure you are always photogenic...

And if not you can always use an extra thick lens on the camera :D I'd need a bullet proof lens I think... ;)

Yes, extra thick -- that oughtta do it!

Hiya cheekypoppins! :welcome: Come on in and make yourself at home.

After we had warmed up, we headed to the American Museum of Natural History. We were thankful that this was the only thing on the planner today, so we could just enjoy the city. Mom and I walked on the edges of Central park and we got to see a bunch of dogs, which made us miss Swiffer. And we got to people watch, which can be pretty interesting.
On our way in I took a picture of this statue. I think it was Teddy Roosevelt, but I don’t really remember.

NYC2012199.jpg

Glenn interjecting -- yes, it clearly says "Teddy Roosevelt" on the pedestal of the statue. Lauren wasn't looking at photos this big when she did the write-up.

Well, it looked cool. We got inside and I emailed my friend Andrew because he was supposed to set aside tickets for us to get in free! But, he hadn’t, so we were sent down to this other floor to get them. We had a little trouble finding the place, but we finally did and even got a ticket for a show later. We asked the people there where the bug exhibit was, and they said there wasn’t one which made us confused. Andrew is the bug guru and I knew he worked here. We were afraid we wouldn’t find him.

Glenn interjecting again -- Andrew is an entomologist (bug expert) who works at the museum. He used to go to our church (along with his parents and sister), but moved to New York City so that he could be around thousands of bugs every day. Oh, and he also got a job offer from the Natural History museum too.

Well, we went to floor four, where their dinosaur exhibit was. I took a bunch of pictures of the different fossils and stuff. I really like learning about dinosaurs, so this was super cool to me.

Oh I took a picture of Mom next to this ancient turtle’s head because it just looked like it was smiling, posing for a picture. Don’t you think so?

NYC2012215.jpg

NYC2012216.jpg

Then, they had this other room filled with the fossils of extinct animals that were ancestors of other things like elephants, armadillos, moose, etc. I had Mom take a picture of me near one of the elephant ancestors. I love those things!

NYC2012217.jpg

More dino pictures…

NYC2012225.jpg

Then, it was getting close to the time we had to go see the show we got tickets for. Before we left, I wanted to get a picture next to one of the elephant statues. They’re my favorite ever!

NYC2012227.jpg

I even asked Mom what her favorite animal was and she said she didn’t know. How can you not have a favorite animal?!?! It’s practically a requirement! I’ve always loved big ones, like the blue whale was my favorite for a while too.

Then we went down a couple floors to see our IMAX film. It was called “Born to be Wild”. It was narrated by Morgan Freeman. He has a really nice voice. Anyway, the movie was about this one woman who nurtures orphaned elephants and another who cares for orphaned orangutans. This movie was really great because, well, I LOVE elephants, especially baby ones. And the baby orangutans weren’t bad either. But it was cute, funny and inspirational too. One thing that I found very cool was that they would both set the animals free when they were ready. But, in Africa where the elephants were, previously adopted elephants would come back to the rehab center to help the babies adjust to life in the wild. They remembered and they cared! How cool is that!?! Just another reason to love them. Very heartwarming.

Well, after the movie was over, we headed out so that we could get back, have lunch and start shopping down in SoHo. By some miracle, I glanced over and there was Andrew! So we talked to him and admired his bug collection. Thankfully, most of them were dead. He did have some live caterpillars that people could touch and he even answered a lady’s question about a bug she had seen in NYC. Then, we said goodbye and went on our way. But, as we were leaving I remembered that I didn’t take any pictures. So, we went back in (illegally) and took some. He didn’t even notice that we came back and left, he was telling people about bugs. And, the only reason we were able to get in was because the one door didn’t close all the way. Thanks, God!
