Got a letter today from Citi - as of Oct 13, only 2% cash back at grocery stores, drugstores, and gas stations. They are adding convenience stores and utilities to the 2% list, and keeping the reward limit at $300 a year.

bummer!
I used that as my primary card.
I might have to search for a different card now... darn!

haven't gotten that letter yet. But 2% is still better then 1%. I will switch my auto payments (electricity, cable, phone etc) to my Citi card if I can get an extra 1%.

Awww, man! That stinks! :( I can't even change my gas/electric to it 'cuz they only take Visa (go figure!).

I just received my card in the mail this week. I may have to cancel and look for another card. I haven't received the letter yet either.

If they are like Chase, maybe you won't all get the same letter. But DH and I both did get them today, as we each have an account. Yes, 2% is still better than 1%, but they spoiled me for the last 2 years.

Yup, got the letters today (we have 2 accounts because we go over the $300/yr. limit). Will be shopping around to see if any of the other 5% cards are still offering that -- fear they, too, will go back down to 1-2% because the competition has done so.

Believe our letters said they were switching over in October, so that'll give me enough time to earn $50+ rewards on one and then close it out. Think it's important for them to see an immediate response to their change.

Dagnabit, I just got our reward card last week! The 5% is the only reason I got it. If they drop it so much, I will probably just cancel our account as soon as we reach $50.

Now where am I supposed to get free Disney souvenier money?!?? :)

We are gettin 5% for a year on grocery, gas and pharmacy with the Citi Diamond Rewards Mastercard. I don't think that it's capped at $300 worth of rewards, either, because I'm pretty sure we've already exceeded that. We'll cancel the card at the end of the year unless they extend the 5% promo. This card might be an alternative if you don't mind only getting a 1 year extension of the 5%.

I haven't gotten any letter yet, I hope I don't. However, right now I'm using the Chase 5% card that's similar that gives cash back so I have a good back up.

When I think about it, I have to say I love the thought of getting 2% back on utilities. My gas and electric are combined on one bill and they take credit cards, so that would be nice.

What's the name of the Chase card?

It doesn't have a name that I know of, but it's advertised all the time in the Sunday coupon inserts. However, I think the 5% is limited to the first year now and some people have reported getting letters saying that they were doing away with it (although I have not received that letter). Be sure to read the fine print. With the rising prices of gas and food I don't expect this deal to last forever, but I'm going to ride it for all it's worth in the meantime!

We do have the Citi Diamond rewards too and it is limited to $750 in rewards a year (not checks, but GC like Amazon.com, etc) I think I have had that since last Oct or Nov too, so don't have much 5% time left on that (it was only for 1 year). Although they did give me a special promo this summer for 5% on hotels and restaurants, so I charged my whole Disney trip on that and got a lot back.

The Chase rewards card (yes I have that too except it is maxed out since they gave me 0% interest for 15 months) is still advertised in the coupon section of the Sunday paper - it is blue and says Chase Cash rewards or something similar. I will have to double check my terms to see how long they were giving the 5% back for. I don't think I got a letter about that one, but I won't pay it off until December so I can't use it yet.

My husband uses the Citicard and I the Chase That way we don't hit a $300 limit either way. And we thought we were being so smart. Hope I don't get anything in the mail.

Has anyone else NOT gotten the letter that says the rewards are going down to 2% starting Oct 13? I haven't, and with Oct 13th quickly approaching, I'm curious. I keep meaning to call Citi, but I haven't gotten a chance.
