Chuck E Cheese gambling lawsuit

http://weirdnews.aol.com/2011/05/14/chuck-e-cheese-gambling_n_861785.html

I thought this was funny, because we've referred to Chuck E Cheese's as 'Vegas for kids' before, but this lady is suing for 'restitution and damages' of about 5 million dollars! Curious...

I saw this on TV the another night and thought, "Really?"

This part of the article made me laugh -
"Still, the suit does raise an interesting question: Does a child's desire to win a plastic pterodactyl by playing Wack-A-Mole really send the little nipper down the slippery slope to gambling addiction that ends with them betting their mortgage payment on red at the local Native American casino?"

When I was a kid, you couldn't tear me away from the Skee-Ball machine, those suckers SPITTED out tickets!

But today, you couldn't PAY me to sit at a boring slot machine.

This lady is just looking for a way to make a fast buck. I can't stand Chuck E Cheese but I don't think that they are at all harmful.

I could be mistaken, but I noticed the last couPle of times I was there that prizes could be purchased. So there is an out.

Crazy person!

Following her logic, ANY arcade would qualify as a potential gambling site. However, I do understand that the real estate business isn't in the best of health....

I believe CEC responded to her suit by saying something along the lines of "IF the establishment was in fact guilty ofillegal gambling, since Mom willingly took her kid there knowing this, she is a willing participant in said illegal activity and therefore unable to recoup anything."

Or something to that effect...ahh...here:

Chuck E. Cheese attorneys are moving for a dismissal of the lawsuit on the grounds that the games are legal and the California Legislature never intended to make operating a children’s arcade game a criminal act. They also contend that even if the games were illegal, then Keller would be an admitted participant in illegal gambling and therefore barred from seeking damages and restitution.

My husband always refers to ChuckECheese as the "kid casino":lmao: However, I don't think it will lead to a life of certain doom and destitution. Where do people find the time to dream these lawsuits up:sad2:

This ranks right up there with those morons who say McDonald's lures 4 year olds into their restaurants by dangling toys in their faces to make them want to eat there. The PARENTS are responsible for taking care of their kids. If they CHOOSE to take their kids to those places, they have ZERO right to complain. Sheesh... some people.

GOOD! Maybe mom will be arrested for allowing a minor to participate in illegal gambling!!!

(I don't really want her to be arrested, but I'd love to see the look on her face if the cops knocked at her door and brought out the handcuffs!)
