Christmas or January?

Okay, we already have a January trip planned for the last week in January. I don't know what bug I got up my behind today but I thought, hmmm, let's make an impromptu thanksgiving trip to Disney on our Points in addition to our January trip. Then when I realized all the holiday festivities wouldn't start until the 28th, which would be our last day there, that shifted to going at Christmas, the actual week of christmas. Going at christmas would replace our January trip.

So now I'm all messed up. I would love to go at a time of year we've never gone, but at the same time all our past trips have been at times that are so jammed with people it would be nice to enjoy it with a light crowd. So other than points being different because of the holidays, the only other consideration is our hotel costs for that Saturday night prior and Friday night of checkout.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Have you checked yet to see about availability? There are reports that certain weeks in Dec. are already sold out. You didn't mention your dates, so I don't know if the crowds will be larger in Dec. verses Jan., but if you want to go, go!? You know best what you want and what will work! Have fun!

It is wonderful there during Christmas....but I would call & check about availability for the holiday.

We are going the week of Christmas 20th-27th and I didn't book a room until a week ago. Staying WL cy view. Booked with the public fall room code DMK and got pretty good rates considering it's Christmas week. I have been periodically checking the online booking area marked specials on disneyworld.com and there is some kind of availability at almost all the resorts. The only ones I tried that were not available were the values. I did call reservations one day just to check another code and was told there was not availability at the resort I checked GF, but the disneyworld site still showed availability at the GF. Could have been the code I was checking.

We love going at Christmas. We've gone in Jan, too, but really liked the Christmas atmosphere better.

Make sure to make ADR's. I still managed to get a CP ADR to see Steven Curtis Chapman on Dec 22.

Christmas decorations at WDW are absolutely beautiful. The Disney Visa FD is available if your stay starts by the 20th. That's really a good deal since the costs for meals go up for the holidays and with DDP you can still use the plan. The parks will most likely be crowded, but maybe not quite so much as usual since Disney has all kinds of discounts. January will be less crowded and then the 4/7 plus $200 gift card. I guess it depends on what you really want. Decisions decisions. I wish I had that one to make!! Have fun whenever you pick!!

We have tried all different times, and while I think that a trip to see the decorations is a "must" (I'm talking end of November thru mid December) and should be done at least once..........I also think that once you try a time period when it is NOT crowded (January), you will be spoiled!

Going when the crowds are low is fabulous! My vote is to stick with your January trip (we went Jan 08 and got discounts, short lines, changed ressies easily!).

No matter WHEN you decide to go, have FUN!
