(Christmas) Lights, Decorations, Action…..A Post-Christmas PTR (update 12/22-page 42)

I was just going to post that there are other "number 1" smilies, but I see that Marvin got that idea too.

Marv if you don't mind me asking, how far away are you boys going for college?

I have one that just finished and one starting her third year. She lives at home and goes to LSU. Interesting fact, she was born in Columbia, SC.

We are in the very western corner of SC. The oldest is in Charleston (about 4 - 4 1/2 hours), the middle one is in Columbia (about 2 - 2 1/2).

:bday: to.......JONATHAN!

I'm just glad I'm not any older and he is catching up to me. I haven't had a birthday since he was born on mine 18 years ago and I let him have the date, negating any future use I would have of it.:thumbsup2

I'm perpetually stuck in my 30s, but I'm not saying which one because some of you just might be able to figure out how old I am :teacher: ...........if you use a calculator!!! (at least Dan and Glenn would probably have to) :lmao:

Hi Marv!

Just catching up from the good ol' Us!!

I hope you won't be offended that I'm a LSU fan. Although when we lived in Columbia we pulled for the Gamecocks.

Happy Belated Birthday to Jonathan. My oldest celebrates his birthday on Wednesday. We took the family to the WWII museum today as his birthday gift.

So glad you are back, Liesa! Waiting (patiently?) to hear all the details of your trip home. popcorn::

Pass along our birthday wishes to Jonathan! :cool1:
Thanks Glenn! Even though the roadtrip tied up a lot of the weekend, it gave the two of us a great chance to have some really good father/son conversation time!:)

Happy Birthday Marvin and Jonathan!!
Thanks Magdalene! It was a special day having one of your children being born as your own birthday present!

No problem on being an LSU fan. There were quite a few pulling for us to win the CWS this year! At least you pull for "real" tigers, unlike some other people I have to live and work with.

Jonathan's college roommate's birthday is also this coming Wednesday. When I went to pick him up for the weekend I took us all three out to dinner to celebrate together! You should have seen the look on the waiter's face when we told him we were there to celebrate THREE birthdays at the same time! :rotfl2:

Which WWII museum did you visit? I would love to go also since my Dad was in the Navy in the Pacific during WWII. His name is listed in the memorial in Washington, DC.

We went to the D Day Museum in New Orleans. It's only a little over an hour away. This was my second visit. It was so worth it. Very touching. What island or islands did you Dad serve on?

Also Happy Belated Birthday to you!

The ones I remember his ship supporting were Kwajalein, Peleliu, Leyte Gulf/Ormoc Bay (they sustained damage here and were in port for repairs during Iwo Jima), and Okinawa. I also think they were with the group that eventually went into Japan at the end of the war.

I actually have a DVD at home that the library in our home town put together. They contacted all of the living WW II vets (who lived there when called up, or currently live in the county) two or three years ago and recorded them telling about their memories of the war, and the battles they fought in, etc. They have a copy in the library and each vet who participated got a copy for their families, which is a cool memento to have and pass along to future generations.

Also Happy Belated Birthday to you!
Thanks a bunch!

I FOUND YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Seriously, I didn't realize you had a PTR going. Now, I need to finish up some work at the office after our virus scare on the entire system at our law firm, and I will read the full report when I get home tonight.

Cool! :welcome: Aboard! I really need to get moving with this thing again! I actually loaded some more pictures to photobucket last night so I can start posting more about our trip. When I was reading some of yours today, I realized I will actually get to do the double digit  while you guys are on your trip (I think the day you head out to Marco Island) so I better get on the move here!

I wonder what type of virus scare you had today??? We had one here at work this afternoon too.

Later on at the 7 month window, I may try to swap it to OKW. A 1BR at Kidani will sleep 5, which is one reason we made it our home resort. A 1BR at OKW has enough extra space that you can sleep a 5th person. We learned that a couple summers ago when we stayed there!

I'm only on page 5 of 13 - but in case someone else hasn't mentioned it - with the new renovations at OKW they have added the sleeper-chair. I assume that with the pull-out sofa that would make a 1BR able to sleep 5.

In the mean time, today is a very special day! I get to change my siggie since I am now the proud Dad of a 21 year old!!! :scared1: Not bad for a guy who is only 29....... :rolleyes1

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATTHEW!

Ok - this is getting a little strange :upsidedow I noticed from your intro that you have 3 sons - mine :dance3: aren't quite as spread out in ages as yours - but they are close. Then I see that you have brought a friend along for the youngest boy (it was the youngest wasnt it??) and the last 3 trips our youngest has also brought along a friend :hyper2:. Your oldest is in the Navy.....my oldest (step-son - not one of my actual 3) is career Navy :sail:- about to retire with 20 years service. And now you say that your oldest just had his 21st birthday....on July 20th?? My (actual) oldest turned 21 on July 22nd.:drinking1 Hmmm - am I reading your trip report - or some alternate reality version of mine ? :teleport: If I had one that is

Marv, I think I read most of this. First, let me extend my condolences to you on the loss of your mom. I lost my dad two years ago this August; dad had been in the hospital/nursing home/hospital for seven months. He died a week before Mark and I went to Disney for our 25th anniversary trip with our best friends. I came close to canceling the trip, but one of the last things my dad said to me when he was still able to talk is that he wanted Mark and I to do the trip no matter what because a lot of people DON'T make it to 25 years anymore and he had a long life and he wanted us to go and enjoy our lives. So I have a little idea of how difficult that time must have been for you.

We have never done a Christmas trip...one of these years. You are also staying at our dream resort. As much as we LOVE the CSR, one of these days I want to stay at the AKL and the BC for a few days.

I'm so glad you got LeCellier and Yak & Yeti--two of our favorite restaurants.

Tanya, I'll save the welcome until the appropriate time. As for OKW, I'm subscribed to a thread about which OKW buildings have gone through the renovations. You are correct that the one's which have now have the sleeper chair and can now sleep five.:woohoo: There definitely has always been enough floor space for sure!

Wow, this could be an episode of the twilight zone! Makes me want to go ride ToT! The only thing is that the oldest is a senior this year at a Military College. Even though he has signed a contract to enter the navy upon graduation, he isn't quite there yet.
Ok :surfweb: I'm all caught up now, so I can officially say "hello!" :wave2:
I guess it's now the appropriate time.....
:welcome: Tanya!!!!

Thanks for the condolences! I have read enough of your PTR now to read about you losing your Dad! It is tough losing them, but after they go through so much there is a part of you that is glad they aren't suffering any more. Your Dad sounds like a wise man. He knows how important it is to still live YOUR life, and celebrating 25 years is certainly important. DW and I got to spend a long weekend at Disney's DVC Resort at Hilton Head for ours. We had a great time, and the staff certainly helped make it special!

It was fun, but under the circumstances a little bit hectic. Certainly more than I was planning for when we first booked it. I was looking at pictures last night to get this PTR moving again and realized just how few pictures I took of the actual decorations. I'm definitely planning to make up for that this trip!

Yes very excited to get to try LeCellier before it goes to signature dining next year! I wasn't really looking to get Yak & Yeti until I heard some recent good reviews, so I decided we would give it a try. That reminds me, I need to cancel that initial Boma ADR I got for about the same time! :)

I get what you are saying about your oldest....my step-son joined after his Jr year in High School and attend Delayed Entry meetings throughout his Sr year and left for boot camp (in Orlando ) shortly after graduation. During his Sr year he would tell everyone he was "in the Navy" not that he was "joining the Navy" - so I guess I just enlisted your son a little early ;)

For boot camp graduation we took our 2nd Disney trip (our first being our honeymoon), Steve (my stepson) brought along 2 of his fellow Navy boot camp grads; along with my younger step-son and our oldest son who was about 2 years old at the time. It was a good trip. I understand boot camp is no longer done there anymore....or maybe its only for female recruits

And thanks for the welcome. I wasn't sure if you would let me in or not :rolleyes1 :flower3:

I agree with you. As much as I didn't want to see Dad go, I also knew that he wasn't living life the way he would want to and I knew he was no longer in pain.

I'm anxious to see your pics of AKL...I really want to get there...hopefully next year.

If you want to see my review of Yak & Yeti--with pics--let me know and I'll post the link for you.
